Tears of joy. I am so happy for her. I know how it feels; I was severely matted during Covid. Depression, divorce, loosing people...my hair wasn't a priority when I was simply trying to maintain through all of the chaos. Plus my longtime beautician passed away during Covid. I wore hats. When I started feeling better, I found another beautician. I was embarrassed over the amount of matting. I told her to do whatever she felt. She assured me that she would do her best. I was prepared for a very short cut. She managed to save my mid-back hair length. A good beautician is empathetic, a friend, a therapist, non-judgmental, etc. I am very grateful for the delightful experience. I was truly amazed that she was able to save so much of my hair.
Edit. I would have been satisfied with a short cut.
I have thick curls from my dads side and so neither of my parents knew how to handle curls (and yeah, some neglect) but I hated having my hair brushed and so over school holidays when my mum didn't have to do my hair for school I would just not brush it for weeks on end and the weekend before school went back I would have to sit on the floor in front of my mum for hours to get it out. As an adult with depression I had the same problems. Would just throw it up in a matted bun for months.
I made the decision to cut it short. Now I love my hair. It is manageable and I love brushing it and styling it and I feel like I have my dignity which I never had when it was matted. Love love love your work! ❤

I don’t understand the reason state board came out tho?? Someone reported you for de matting someone’s hair…. And? Why does that deserve a visit? I just don’t get what they could’ve said you did for them to come….
They may have lied and said something about lice in the studio. It’s sad to know that someone would report an organization that serves so many so beautifully.
They may have suggested that they deliberately matted the child's hair in order to show it being de-matted?

Look, I can see how these ladies get so matted. All it requires is one windy day, and I have a giant deadlock that takes an hour to get out. Put me out of commission with a four-day migraine, and my detangling process can take hours. Oh, sure, it would be low maintenance if only I would iron it. But that is hard on the hair, and I do have a lot of it, so I don't do it often.

If you go in person they should be able to give you an estimate. If one salon won’t work with you, try another salon. You should be able to get it done. It is VERY expensive. Some places charge $1 per minute, per salon technician. So for one hour, with only 2 people you’re looking at $120. It typically takes all day, like 7-8 hours. That would be over $800. Some places will do it for $500 but that’s an extraordinarily good price.

There are many, many reasons why people end up with matted hair. And you can still go out in public no matter what your hair looks like.

In my particular case, I spent 60 days in the hospital.
No, I am NOT joking.
I braided it into two big braids before going in, but a "helpful person" undid the braids.
After 60 days, my hair looked like a sofa cushion, and had, basically, to be carved off.
Assume nothing. If you not live under that hair, you have NOTHING to say

Not many ppl talk about what happens after you leave and what the aftermath looks like.. Leaving those relationships ppl think you left now you’re fine and everything goes back to how it was before.. well that couldn’t be further from the truth! Depression, anxiety and stress is what I got and is the reason why my hair as well has become matted multiple times.
