    Taking Nadal to the tiebreak is an achievement these day.

    When Rafa was in his twenties winning The French Open his game was a lot more reactive than it is now. In the mid 2000s when he was beating Roger it was basically a war of attrition. "I can stay out here longer and make a lot less errors than you can" He emphasis was more on defense and consistency. Now his game has evolved and he is much more proactive than reactive. He is often inside the baseline these days.jFinishing with is inside out forehand and down the line backhand. Taking the ball earlier on both wings and crushing his groundstrokes. Dominating with his forehand and cutting off floaters at the net. He had 39 winners today vs. Marterer. That's a lot for him. It is going to be very hard to deny him his 11th title if he continues to play this powerful and aggressive style of tennis.

    Marterer played far better than most of players in this round. Unfortunately, he had to play with the king.

    • @mravtnesa824
      @mravtnesa824 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Nuttapong Sansuk from what I can see, Marterer is left handed and so he was able to fight a bit fairly. Nadal has the advantage over most players becuz he plays with his left hand where he can easily make shots on the backhand side of his opponents, + with his strength, keep chasing balls, not giving up, and his signature top spin shots.
      The ones who are able to tank these with their backhands are Roger, Novak, Wawrinka and a few others.
      Nadal lost to Shapovalov once since the kid is left-handed and so not so much problem facing nadal's shot, except that Shapovalov have to face Nadal's tenacity and fearsome spirit.

      @ A Citizen Not to mention the advantage of a rigged draw, exactly like last year. "Coincidentally", all the players who could hurt Nadal are in the other half, figting 5 setter matches vs. Sasha. After the tough matches vs. Bolelli, Pella, Gasquet, Marterer, now Nadal has to play the 1.70 m high Diego, who fought a 5 setter of his own. But karma is a bitch, remember that.

    • @gherbihicham8506
      @gherbihicham8506 6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Vladimir just like last year really? when he swooped the floor with Theim and Wawrinka who everybody was hyping up to beat him are being serious? Also if Schwartzman and Zverev cannot win their matches in straight sets like Nadal does it's not Nadal's problem, the lower half of the draw didn't turn out to be as tough as people were hyping it up really, Djokovic will be playing some unseeded player himself.
      Also Nadal will have either Del Potro or Cilic both grand slam champions and guys who can defeat anyone on their day, the only grand slam winner left at the bottom half is Djokovic and it's guaranteed he will only play one of Zverev/Theim, imo Djokovic has had the luckiest draw so far this year.

    • @vladimirstanescu6616
      @vladimirstanescu6616 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Gherbi Hicham You are joking, right ? Last year, Nadal played Haase, Basilashvili, Agut, Busta, Thiem (who was drunk I guess judging by his play) and Stanimal, who was exhausted after a 5 setter vs. Andy, the No 1 at the time (and had some 6 hours less to rest than Nadal). And this year - you can watch by yourself. But you are blind, like all the other Nadal fans. Do you think Lajovic could not push Nadal to 5 ? Or Dzumhur, playing like he played against Sasha ?
      Shameless rigged draws, I tell you. But i'll tell you again: karma is a bitch.

      Keith Cross he's only the second after Borg in the history to win more channel slams( the French-Wimbledon double) I think he can be very fresh for Wimbledon if he decides to skip that idiotic 250/500 point grass tournament that comes before it.

    • @keithcross2102
      @keithcross2102 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      His performance at wimbly has been disappointing for years. They keep finding unheard of neophytes with a big serve to play him. They usually disappear soon after they beat him. Kyrios has been dining out on the fact he beat him once at wimbledon ever since. After getting to the final in paris returning those heavy servers in london is a real chore.

      Ali Farooqi Good joke! How the hell can he be the greatest athlete of all time? I mean, the guy is one hell of a tennis player, but a great athlete isn't injured that much as Nadal is. Federer, in tennis, for example, is way better as an athlete!

    • @mrhakz330
      @mrhakz330 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      What a stupid statement. Some players are simply injury prone no matter how much they try to take care of their body.

    • @schwozluv8364
      @schwozluv8364 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Rick Wiselaar getting injured wise, fed wins no questions. But Rafa is way stronger, faster, and can endure much tougher and longer matches than roger. Both fit in different ways.

    • @deniss.6205
      @deniss.6205 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ali Farooqi Well, that May indeed be true, Since Nadal always pushes himself to the point of injury, which is quite a statement considering he is not as naturally talented as Roger or Novak, but he has the mentality to always improve.

    I heard a commentator say that Nadal is now tied with Djokovich for most FO Quarterfinals:12. But that can't be.Djokovich with 12?

      Jeffrey Kaufmann It's true! From 2006 till now, Djokovic, only at one French Open edition lost before the quater final stage! It was in 2009 against Kohlschreiber in a third round match!

    Nadal really needs to get his act together at the start of matches. Playing catch-up against seeded players isn't going to be as fruitful as it may be against young players.

    As much as i want see Nadal losing in this tournament bearing injury woes there’s none in the draw that can get close to beat him, the man is a best and unstoppable,he seems to thrive and play his best in Roland Garros.

  • @napchill
    @napchill 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    His draw is a joke so far. He won't really face any challenge (maybe) until the semis in Cilic or Del Potro, they could make it interesting. Still, Nadal is definitely the heavy favorite to win the championship.

    It's a wonder players don't use the drop shot more often against Nadal on clay. Obviously you have to be selective with it but it beats getting in to brutal baseline exchanges with him the whole time.
