    I wish ppl would have thought of this when I was a kid. Mu grandma always used a lighter. The smell of burning fake hair still haunts me...

    I currently have braids but my natural hair isn’t too much shorter. I’ve always been scared because I’ve heard you’re not supposed to put your hair in the hot water because it will damage it. How do you accomplish this without damaging your natural hair?

    • @ItsMeMissRuby
      @ItsMeMissRuby  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Honestly, I'd def recommend you always get your braids longer than your natural hair for this reason. In the case it's not much longer, I just dip the ends that pass the natural hair. It's better than nothing but as you said, it's def not good for your hair to dip it in boiling hot water. If I know I'm dealing with really long hair like that, I always used a generous amount of product to seal the hair down as much as possible while braiding.

      That’s the best method I’ve come across. I’ve had clients tell me that they go and take a really hot steamy shower and gently massage their scalp and that helps as well. Otherwise, it just takes time. A few days usually. You may have to take some pain meds in between if it is too much but it will definitely loosen in a few days

    What if you real hair in the braids get touched by the boiling hot water. My real hair comes down pretty far.

    • @ItsMeMissRuby
      @ItsMeMissRuby  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      NapturalAI The goal is to dip the ends of the synthetic hair so that it stays together, and if possible, go up a little higher in order to also help lay flyaway hairs that make the braids look frizzy. However, it would be counterproductive to go up as high as your natural hair comes down because that would cause the braids to be frizzy. So to answer the question, if your real hair gets touched by the boiling water it would make matters worse so definitely try and avoid that. 🤗

    My Senegalese braids are butt length. I’m going back to get them cut today to bra strap length (as initially requested) as they feel too heavy for me. If the hairdresser cuts it to this length, will she have to knot each end again or is dipping it in hot water enough. I’d really appreciate expert advice as some of the braids have already started to unravel and I only got it done two days ago. Thank you

      After braiding, the hair will unravel if it's not dipped in hot water. The hot water will stop the hair from unraveling, but the hair should not be soaked in the hot water because strands may melt/disfigure. I did that the first time I braided my own hair lol

    • @emmastone7145

    • @ItsMeMissRuby
      @ItsMeMissRuby  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the fiber the hair is made out of essentially "melts" with heat. That's why women used to burn the ends of their braids because the direct fire would melt the hair without burning it to ashes, allowing for it to somewhat mold together, cool, and remain stuck. Dipping the hair gently melts it so that the braid stays together, but retains a natural finish vs the burnt ends finish we used to do. Make sense? You only need to leave the hair in the hot water for a few seconds each dip.

    It’s definitely easier doing it to someone else or have a partner to help. Doing it by yourself is trickier.

      Not sure but I think that happens when the water is too hot but when that happens for me I run through it with my flat iron (hot but not too hot) and it straightens back out like new

      Did you do small sections at a time? That happens, for me, when the water is either not hot enough, when I put too many braids in at once, or when I don't pull and squeeze dry at the same time. The heat allows you to manipulate the hair so while it's still hot you need to stretch it out as much as necessary to ensure it dries straight. Lastly, it could be the brand of hair you are using too.

    Don’t your braids come loose sometimes with hot water set? It’s been about 10 hours since I got my braids done and I’m so scared my braids will come loose I tied the ends with rubber bands.
    I think I prefer burning the ends...
