This looks like a solid film to drop shrooms on.

Nah, there's a 70's version of Nutcracker that's apparently way better for that kinda thing *;)*

As someone who knows _nothing_ about The Nutcracker story....
....I honestly thought SHE was the Nutcracker! Like, why's her relationship with the soldier dude supposed to be so important they named the movie after him?

In the original Ballet, the Nutcracker is the catalyst, or "magical object".

Let's be fair it was Tchaikovsky’s version that most know and like, so to most this movie does not folow the one they know.

He’s not. Which is why I don’t think this film does a good job at being a Nutcracker adaptation.

I would agree with this review. It's definitely a film that had interesting ideas and actors, but suffers from a troubled production and clunky story. It is a shame too as they were trying to combine the ballet, the original ETA Hoffman story and turn into a Narnia-esque fantasy all at once, which must have been the final nail in the coffin. I would say the best parts are the beginning, the designs, the soundtrack and some of the actors performances, the worst parts are the plot, botched world building and CGI that looks like it was made in the late 90's.

The real world drama of it was the strongest part of the film, for me it was a bit of visual candy to set the mood for Christmas... i know we're in November. I cant say it was that bad because i came out with a smile on my face, but poor Richard E grant having that junk covering his face must have been as annoying as it was pointless.

It looks vaguely better than the bizarre 2010 3D arsefest. But The Nutcracker is one of those things that never works as anything other than a ballet.

When it comes to film reviews it’s generally a really bad sign when one of the few compliments is that it’s diverse. This is wrinkle in time all over again. Absolutely horrible 1/10 film, but hey its diverse!

Keira Knightley saves this film -blimey that's an unexpected comment from Mr Kermode. The only reason I'm going to watch this is because of Misty Copeland, to see her performance on a big screen. I saw a recent interview with Tyler Perry and the cast of nobody's fool and they were so impressed that he was able to shoot the film in 10 days. I now understand Tyler Perry's explanation. Based upon Marks summary of "it's an utter utter mess" it sounds like the studio executive's have meddled and messed up what could have been a great Xmas movie. Oh well I look forward to seeing this included in the Xmas movies TV schedule next year 🤣

A supposedly poignant story about a girl dealing with the loss of her mom is resolved by a smackdown between her and a wannabe despot toy?
What a cheap and lazy script.
