I love your landscapes Shana! You made me put the Graphitint on my wishlist now. 😄 I didn't realize they were so good for landscapes, the colors look really beautiful! Actually your painting looks much more interesting than the original photo. 🥰
Thank you so much! 💖 I love how the graphite mixes with the color and creates such interesting undertones. So much fun for landscapes! I hope you love them when you get the chance to try them!
Such a beautiful painting Shana. I can almost see the weeds swaying to and fro in the Summer breezes and watch the shadows cast from the clouds, shifting across the bright yellow fields. Tranquility at it's best!
@@CautionArtistatPlay You're most certainly welcome Shana. It also reminds me of when I was young, laying on my back in the grass watching the clouds changing into different forms, trying to guess what they looked like; a turtle, a car, a dog, lol!
This is such a very beautiful painting Shana. The colours these pencils come in, absolutely lend themselves to exactly what you came up with. I could watch your talented hands at work for hours on end! I wish you were able to make your art your full time occupation. So many less talented and visionary artists seem to manage to do it full time. Sorry, that was borderline rude of me. I just want you to be the happiest you can be, and that happens most when you create. I own both pans and pencils and thought it was something I was doing wrong that meant the pans were so much more insipid. It doesn’t help the issue, but I am glad I am not alone. 👩🏻🎨🖌️🎨🙌🏻
Thank you so much, Anita! I truly appreciate it. Your comments always make my day! You are right, I am certainly at my happiest when I create. Someday soon, I hope I will be doing it full-time. But for now, I am happy to have the time I do have to create and share with all of you. I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one to notice a difference between the pans and pencils!! It's definitely something I will need to remember when doing future projects.
Wow! This piece is stunning! I purchased my graphitint pencils back when they first came out about..I dunno..15 or 20 years ago??? I have barely used them but recently I pulled them out to use in my new journal. They have been perfect for the nature sketches I've been doing.❤
I was reading this comment and thought, "No way are these 15 years old!" Then I did some math and realized I bought my OWN set 10 years ago. The time really flies...🤣
I have both the pencils and the pans and I love the subtle palette of both. I do find when using the pans that I have to work fairly quickly as they do dry very fast. This was a great and useful video. Thanks!
I’ve got both the pans and pencils and agree that the colours seem richer in the pencils! I don’t use them very often, even though they’re lovely, strangely I don’t get on with inktense, but love the graphitint! Your landscape is gorgeous!
Shana, this is beautiful! Thanks for showcasing what these pencils can do. I've just had to tell myself a very firm "NO!!!" about buying the 24 set, as I have had Ocean Blue for a long time (it was a sample) and I really like it, but the heating's on the blink and so is the car (a lot of money involved to fix each of these, and I have to get them both fixed - no choice there!), so that "NO!" was very much needed! 😄
Darn it! I hate it when adulting gets in the way of buying fun new art supplies! Lol. Sorry you are dealing with that. I understand, though. We have had to replace quite a few of our large appliances lately. No fun. Thank you for watching!
Hi Shana! I was talking about you to my brother while we were looking at this beautiful landscape you made, and I was telling him that you are the only Artist who makes the trees with colored pencils, that look so beautiful and real. He loved it! I loved Graphitint, in fact, this artwork is very beautiful! They were on my Amazon wish list, but they are expensive now! the tin of 24 Derwent Graphitint pencils is now on $50 when I remember they were more economical. Maybe they'll lower the cost, and it's a shame I couldn't buy them sooner.
Thank you so much, Claritza! I'm glad you like how I draw trees. They are one of my favorite subjects! Oh darn, I didn't realize these had risen in price so much! It's been a while since I bought any. Everything is so expensive these days!
@@CautionArtistatPlay oh, definitely! And I don't why...but, you know, everything are expensive ...maybe it's why they put this set so expensive now. But, I will waiting for the product drop the price...because....I want this too🤣 oh my, I'm addicted to art supply 🤦😅
That’s a beautiful landscape! I really enjoy seeing your process videos, I always feel very inspired 😊 I love the graphitint pans for landscape paintings but as you say they are quite dark and similar in their grey graphite hues. For that reason I never got the pencils, so it’s good to know that they are a bit more vibrant. I’m currently experimenting with watercolour washes under colour pencils and watercolour pencils so I might put them back on my wish list 😊
Thank you! I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed the darkness in the pans. The pencils definitely have more color payout, at least in my experience!
This art is gorgeous, and I really learnt a lot by watching this video and listening to your explanation! I already own a set of the pencils and just ordered the paint pan couple of days ago, so I'm just waiting for it to arrive so I can test it out. Thanks for making such cool content!
Hi Shanna 😊 I have purchased the Chinese White and I totally agree: the best white pencil there is! But I have one question…How do you sharpen the pencil in a sharp point. It’s staying pretty blunt and the darn thing keeps breaking! 😤😅
I use the Derwent Super Point Manual pencil sharpener, and it gets things pretty sharp! It is a soft pencil, so it will crumble a bit when using it. But it shouldn't break in the same way a Prismacolor would, lol.
@@CautionArtistatPlay I used different sharpeners but it keeps breaking like…Prismacolor 😓 maybe the led is bad from this pencil. That would be a damn shame, because it’s a expensive pencil.
I wonder if it got jostled around before you got it. The point will usually crumble a bit, but they don't typically snap off like Prismacolors do. And they don't tend to break when I sharpen them in any sharpener I have. Unlike prismas. You may have gotten a defective pencil. Reach out to Derwent about it, they usually have fantastic customer service and might replace it for you!
@@CautionArtistatPlay thanks. I will do that! By the way, I saw your vlog and heard about your husband. I wanted to purchase something in your shop (Pixels) but the things I have a great place for at my wall doesn’t quite fit my wallet 🫠🤣 but I do want to help. Can I donate the amount I had in mind?
Thank you so much for thinking of me, Nicole! Yeah, pixels can be a bit pricy because the company has their mark-up on top of mine. I need to start offering some smaller products along with my originals in my regular shop, I just haven't gotten to that point yet. I believe someone else did a super thanks on my vlog video, so that may be a way for you to support. I appreciate you. 💖
Hi there! There is some graphite sheen when using them dry, but once they have been washed out, they become pretty matte. This is still a tiny bit of sheen after being washed out, but it's not nearly as bad as using regular old dry graphite.
Thank you, Nicole! Haha, I have heard a lot of people say that! As someone who has done both, I feel like a lot of the skills are transferable. If you can draw hair, then you can draw trees and grass! It's all about looking at the clumps and negative shapes!
Yeah, you do for sure. One of the things I like about landscapes is that if a leaf is out of place, no one will know the difference, whereas if something is off on the face, it's more noticeable. It's why I find landscapes to be relaxing. Though, working on a portrait can be meditative, too. I love working on small details. Portraiture was a favorite subject of mine for many years. I still love portraits, but I right now I'm more into nature. I'm sure I will get back to doing more portraits eventually, but for now, I'm just going where the inspiration leads me.
@@CautionArtistatPlay I was out of inspiration for multiple months, but today I drew with graphite again. A portrait of my grandfather. I found it very relaxing 😌 the profilepicture is also my work. So looking at details is what I’m used to 🤣
