  • Tour Scotland wee video of old photographs of Maud, Scottish Gaelic, Am Mòd, a small town in the Buchan area of the Scottish county of Aberdeenshire. Maud rose to prosperity in the nineteenth century as a railway junction of the Formartine and Buchan Railway that ran through Maud to Fraserburgh and Peterhead, but has always been the meeting place of six roads. It has had a variety of names: Bank of Behitch, Brucklay and New Maud. Edward Burns Ross, born 28 September 1881, died 1 January 1947, was a 20th century Scottish mathematician who was born in Maud. He studied mathematics and physics at the University of Edinburgh. In 1906 he became assistant to Karl Pearson at University College, London staying for one academic year, and in 1907 obtained a post at Madras Christian College in India. In 1921 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.
