    When I drove for Stevens Transport, I use to use the Navgo system in our Quallcom in conjunction with my Garmin Dezl560. similar to what your trying out. The trucking GPS are far more advanced and better than the companies version.

    I have tried copilot navigation on my phone. It sucks. I have Garmin drive-assist 50LMT with built in dashcam (LMT = lifetime map and traffic update). Just got it a few months ago. It works pretty well.

      +Bradley Drennan They just recently updated our Omni tracks with an entirely new navigation system. Hopefully I will report on it soon.

    after watching this, you've convinced me to get a GPS unit, the company I drive for now has Navigo by Telogis and works very well, but I'm starting at Maverick Jan 1st and looks like this co-pilot system is bad...

      +Chris Helgerson They just switched to a new GPS system in the truck. It's better but I still like my 730 better.

    Qualcomm Navigation is like the saw in a Swiss Army Knife. It's better than nothing, but not by much.

      +tscottme Exactly, well put.

    Just got done with orientation. Thanks for all your videos. It helped me to make my decision about which company to join. I feel like I've made the right decision. I have the recruiter your name and so did half of my class lol. Be safe!

    • @DaleLClay
      @DaleLClay  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Let's hope that half of the class makes it through to there first load. Just remember, it gets more manageable each month.

    They do offer a POI database for that navigation system, if your company opts for it. You have to stop the truck before it will let you access it though. So it's just plain useless in my opinion.

      Totally a pain. Another reason I prefer the McNally

    @gcnewd 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks great video and fun. Do you have the MCP or the new one IVG?

    • @DaleLClay
      @DaleLClay  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +gcNewd That's a good question. I have not looked close enough to know that.

    • @gcnewd
      @gcnewd 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      does it connect directly in the ECM plug in, or intricate wiring to the ECM itself?

    • @gcnewd
      @gcnewd 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually the better question is when did you get this?
      the new IVG just rolled out Feb 2016... haha just answered my question: you posted video in Aug 2015. you must have the MCP.
      sorry for all this trouble.
      I have not been able to find one review on the new IVG which is what we are purchasing very shortly.

      Ya, it has its redeeming qualities...when it turns on.

  • @markjones2113
    @markjones2113 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    so are you responsible for buying the Rand McNally GPS that's clearly superior to the Omnitracks? How expensive are they?

    • @DaleLClay
      @DaleLClay  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mark Jones Yes I bought it, i think this the model I have is down to 299 in some places, maybe less

  • @MichaelD-md4fh
    @MichaelD-md4fh 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If Maverick is paying extra for that piece of crap they would be better off buying each driver a commercial GPS. Worth about 1/2 star IMO.

    • @DaleLClay

      They just had a fleet wide poll on it this week, we shall see what happens.

    You're missing the point of the program. It's made to get you from point a to point b. It isn't made to tell you every little thing that might be in your interest. Hence why you have a gps. Now if your gps goes out this will help you find your receiver/shipper. As far as your convince they didn't think about us when they did the programming lol.

      I thinks that the entire Omnitracs in a nut shell

    • @barryhawkins9719
      @barryhawkins9719 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mine will only get me to the correct destination 50% of the time at best. I only use it if my rand mcnally agrees with the destination. So it's pretty worthless!!!

    What is the deal with Indiana? Why do truckers hate that state?

    • @rescuepanther
      @rescuepanther 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because the entire state highway system stays under construction. Plus LEOs write a lot of tickets in the construction zones.

    • @GoldGunsandGolf
      @GoldGunsandGolf 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh...ok

    • @DaleLClay
      @DaleLClay  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      What rescue panther said. It's not all that pleasant to look at either.

    • @nospam3001
      @nospam3001 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +rescuepanther Adding to that: Indiana has a very high fuel tax, and they don't do a very good job of clearing their roads in winter. Two winters ago I got stranded in Indiana by heavy snow and impassible roads on three different occasions. Once I was stranded at the Flying J in Fort Wayne for four days. There was a joke going around the truck stop that Indiana didn't have any winter road maintenance supplies because they blew all their Federal highway dollars buying sports cars for their police officers. Who do they think they are? Georgia?

    omg so spoiled . I truckers map book and an exit directory is all I used . Then I remembered all stops. . I would use GPS on my phone . I wouldn't rely on that . Rely on memory, the old fashion maps and exit directory. Pretty soon you will have it to memory.
