      Agreed.

    • @andreasbuder4417
      @andreasbuder4417 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I don’t follow this argument. The R5 has none of the controls this camera has, neither on hardware side nor on software side. They are for completely different target groups. If you are disappointed in the R5, you‘ll much rather buy an A7s III or Panasonic S1H than upgrading to this C70. So there is no point in protecting something, which people wouldn’t buy in the first place. And that’s also valid the other way round. If you are into filmmaking to buy a C70 with all its controls, you would never consider the R5 even with no overheating whatsoever, because it lacks all of the benefits actually using it in the field.

      Two completely different cameras. We have a Pocket 6K and a C100 Mark II and we took both of them to a shoot yesterday and because of the type of shoot, we shot everything with the C100. The Pocket would have been a pain in the butt to shoot with. So I'm definitely looking forward to the C70 to replace my C100.

    This is a solid camera. Wish I had the cash to replace my C100 mkII with this. For a single shooter that does not need RAW or stills but needs small footprint, internal NDs, excellent AF and long record times in a variety of codecs/formats this is awesome. I wonder if there's a decent loupe out there that would work with this? Something like the Gratical or the BMD viewfinder would be good too.

    i LOVE that question about the lack of a evf, i don't know why canon could not engineer an accessory finder for this camera but the rep is right, most of today's younger filmmakers prefer large screens and arms length position and with the demand this cam will create third parties will address that. Great video, I subscribe.

    I really think this was to compete kinda with red Komodo that’s does 6k and is RF mount and has more pro ports but is a bit weird with mounting assessors and bottom plates but it’s around the same price as this and C70 looks like it’s priced fairly and between the 2 it’s a little hard cuz that extra 1500 goes along way if you only got 10k for a camera build.

    Is there a word on Mid level model RF-Mount Video centric camera?
    Or did Canon confirm enabling RAW Capabilities Externally? (I Don't think they can do that Internally with choice of both SD Card slots).
    I Moved to RF- Lenses recently and have a Pre Order on R5. Was on Fence to decide between Canon C70- Red Komodo (I Can not move to Sony a7s3- No more selling lens and loosing money).
    Is still feel couple of things missing...
    1. DPAF Version2 which is available in R5.
    2. RAW Options- Canon Cinema RAW Light (Internally with a CF-Express Card), or Externally with Atomos Ninja V (Sony is giving a 16 bit RAW Output that gets converted to 12 bit Prores Raw).
    3. ALL-I Frame rates (It seems ALL-I is capped at 30fps currently).
    Comparing to Sony A7S3 ($3499), i get that the additional $2000 premium for C70 ($5499 price tag) makes sense for ND Filters/Color Science/Active Cooling/Handling-Menu/Audio inputs etc... However, Where are the RAW capabilities or at-least ALL-I compression that Sony A7S3 (Or lower price tag BMPC 6K, Panasonic S1H) providing.
    I still consider this as an inferior product compared to competition. Its like we give you all the tools that you want but you can only record upto 4.2.2 10 Bit where All-I capped at 30P.
    I don't have any other choice but just to wait till Canon releases another RF- Mount Video centric camera that offers RAW capabilities.
    I hope Canon release a mid level model with below add-on features.
    1. DPAF Latest Version.
    2. One/Two SD Card slots with an Additional CF-Express card slot (For Internal Raw recording).
    3. Do not limit ALL-I to 30P.
    4. Internal RAW/ or External RAW with Atomos Ninja V.
    It seems Canon Cleverly-Intentionally chose SD Cards here than including a CF-Express to tell customers that its not possible to write RAW to SD Cards. End of a debate.
    I feel bad for C200 owners. At least canon shall allow a Trade-in offer for C200 owners.

    Good afternoon, congratulations on the review. I currently have a SONY HXR NX80, I am a freelance cameraman and I would like to evolve. I am interested in the Canon C70 with a 100-500 lens or Sony A7Siii with a 100-400- lens, which do you think would be the best option considering that I would need it to record ballet in theaters where it would be located in the audio room in the background and only with the stage light. The precision of the autofocus is very important to me and the camera would be on a tripod with a zoom servo. Thank you very much and greetings from Lima Peru.

      The CineD dynamic range tests for the C300mk3 and the S1H suggest that the S1H actually has less DR than this camera's sensor does. Wonder if Canon will add external RAW recording to the C70 though

      @@RayValdezPhotography The S1H will have AF tracking before the end of the year. That's been reported. Body alone, the S1H currently has more lens selection. Also consider that with the C70, people are spending A TON on full frame RF glass and lose their focal lengths on this camera.

    Once again, not enough value for the price. If they're going to call this a cinema camera it needs to have RAW recording. I'm sure BlackMagic Design is working on a UMP 12K "Pocket" camera version of this right now.

    • @rogermetcalf4496
      @rogermetcalf4496 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It really does not need raw recording - nice to have? sure, but the codecs built in are perfectly adequate - if you want raw buy a C200 for less $

    • @directoradamg
      @directoradamg 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@rogermetcalf4496 In all honesty, I do agree about the raw recording. However, for the price, I would say this is slightly overpriced, compared to the competition. All the competition can do just about everything that this can, minus in-built ND filters. What i think is unique about this is that it has the AF, it has the ND, it has the XLR (minis), it has false color, etc. It has a 10 bit all-intra codec. And it is great it has so many great things. but for its price, all it really offers beyond the AF is in-built ND. it doesn't even have an EVF. for the price, the new VND by Revoring, + a Sony A7S3 is almost $2000 less. Plus the sony a7s3 batteries last a while now, and don't cost nearly as much as canons bp-30/60 range. I am a huge canon fan. I have owned the c100 mk2, and C200. I loved the convenience of the cams and the images. But in 2020, this camera is overpriced compared to the competition. A7s3, Z-Cam offerings, blackmagic pocket 4k (with speedbooster) and 6k, ursa mini g2, etc etc...
      I don't need internal RAW. External RAW might be nice, but again, I don't need it. a strong 10bit codec is all i need/want. However, there are so many well priced excellent options that give almost the exact same stuff as the c70, at a much lower price bracket. For now, I am happy to manual focus still with my pocket 4k+speed booster, or use the acceptable AF of my fuji xt-3.
      If this thing was $3500, i would sell my pocket and buy one immediately. I might even be tempted at $4k. but $5.5k with such expensive batteries (sure you don't need many, but still way too expensive for them), I don't think I will ever be buying the c70. which sucks, because it looks absolutely like everything I've wanted since i saw the specs of the GH5.

      High Sea Films if it was $3500 everyone would sell their pocket cinema cause it would be a steal and canon would go out of business. When a camera is cheaper and missing features doesn’t make it better it makes it cheaper, so not having AF, ND filters, IS lens those are features that cost money, why should canon spend money of research and development and not charge for them, why would canon not be expected to not charge for something it’s competitors are not offering, it’s business. You sell something you charge for it , black magic don’t have af, canon does that’s more money, Nd filters more money, every feature equals more money....

      Can you ask Canon, right now, before they hang up, about the tripod mount? Cuz tots wack. Does Canon offer an L-type mounting bracket that connects the bottom & side mounting points? Otherwise I don’t understand the bottom mounting design. The C100 has a replaceable bottom mount, center pin plus ¼-20 or center pin plus ⅜”. Why are the mounting options sideways?! Are you not supposed the tilt with the C70, Canon?! I’ve side-mounting a camera before, but it was for a horror movie, not for general use video production. If there is a bracket, maybe from Tilta or Manfrotto, that connect bottom and side ¼-20, then has standard bottom, in-line with lens, mounting options, then that would be a solid mounting option, but would still interfere with the great design of the C70. Confused by this.

      It's not a photo camera at all. It's more for run and gun cinema, with all your xlr, nd's, handle attachments and all the inputs needed to be used on a multicamera production in-body. You'll never see a A7sIII being used in a large production, you'll more than likely see this be used as a B or C camera. As far as video cameras go (since this isn't a hybrid camera like the A7sIII), it's an entire category up in cameras.

    • @m0nztam0nk
      @m0nztam0nk 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ruffneck101 ofc you are totally right and i understand that. But even with the better ergo and nd im underwhelmed by the Codec options. If this is meant for smaller budget films the codec is severely lacking. Something like this NEEDS Prores at least...otherwise i would just always opt for the Blackmagic instead you know?
      Codecwise i dont understand, how the sony can beat it... if it doesnt do prores, why not at least do 4k120 all-i? Heck, even the R5 from canon can do that!

    Dear Canon with 5.5k $ us I buy 3 BM 6k or 3 Nikon z6 with Video in Full Frame and 4k Pro Res Raw + 2 Atom Ninja V Recorders. In these times of pandemic, that price does not match the reality of many event videographers or independent filmmakers. This price will make Sony, Nikon and Blackmagic happy. Very bad Canon!

      I would say, first of all, Canon seems always at a higher price, you will find it while comparing C300 II to Sony FX9, which is also something I dislike.
      But in the meantime, this C70 can be used right out of the box, with everything you need. With BMPCC 6K I am afraid you can only get 2 as you need all the cages and battery solutions, and with the z6 it is a pity it is line skipping not downsample(which is impossible consider the definition of RAW) RAW. I guess sometimes the reliability and ease of use will play a big role here.
      We can also say this compared BMPCC6K to a SONY FX9 or something else. But I guess Canon have their market, especially considering their aggressive technology improvement the recent year.
      But agree with you, if the agreement can make the price drop;)

      @Gap The most high-end cinema camera now use LPL/PL mount, and then comes the EF mount as every cinema camera can adapt to ALL the EF, RF, L, FE mount, so I would say only if you are investing in L(which don't have a cinema camera line yet) or E mount lens, you are not just screwed because of a lens system. The high end cinema camera maybe owns by companies, but I guess not all the low end ones. And I would say the reason Canon now put so much technology into the camera is they want to get more percentage of the market. Just don't know why it is so expensive...

      @Gap Good point of color matching, I am not sure if I can calculate the price in this way, 6100 dollar set for C70 + speedbooster, with the advantage of convenient build in ND(1000 dollars), build in XLR module (500 dollars), plus a better battery system, waveform build in, no need for a cage... Buy it is still expensive haha.

Ergonomics should be number one priority for any camera. There are benefits to the Rf mount of course, but stating that image quality is one of them, is just plain wrong/misleading. Perhaps it allows RF lenses to achieve a higher image quality, but the mount itself does not magically improve image quality.

    Funny that their serious video cameras don't have 8k (a "niche" and "a luxury for high end production" that overheats and is not useable) as he says for but they chose to cram that into the R5 as a marketing ploy. They want everything using RF lens because they make all their money selling expensive lens and they know once people have to buy all new lens, they most likely won't change camera companies.

    I see there are a bunch of C200 owners talking about changing to the C70. For me, as a C200 owner and lover - I'll think twice before considering a switch.
    The processing, storage, and NLE system technologies are growing so exponentially that the issues we are facing now should be distant memories in a year or two.
    I still believe that to have the RAW capability is preferable, it simply opens up so many delivery possibilities.
    Ask the question - "if the data storage and transfer rate issues are dealt with, would I want to limit myself to two or three acceptable codecs, or rather have the capacity to transcode into almost any codec I want to - 8 bit, 10 bit, 12 bit - 420, 422, 444 etc .... all within a matter of minutes?"
    Because it's coming. What is happening today was unthinkable two years ago, and I believe that soon we will be forgetting about the C200 RAW storage and transfer conversations we are seeing today.
    At least I hope so ... so for now, I'll be putting my faith in the C200 and the rapid expansion of RAW management technology.
    As that happens I cannot imagine a better cine camera at the price.
    Any thoughts on this?

  • @TheTechnoPilot
    @TheTechnoPilot 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Wow talk about the excuses for the cripple hammer! SDI is generally not used in smaller production because companies try to call the reliable cheap connector type a pro feature. Also, us up-and-coming film makers love EVFs if they were of quality and not placed in a position that made shooting with a camera awkward. A touchscreen on the back is never a replacement for an EVF for any serious filmmaker that isn't just a TH-camr, it might only be preferred if it can be moved around the camera body and rigged as needed, while also bright enough to be used in direct sunlight and colour accurate enough to judge image.
