    This, for me, is by far the most exciting filmmaking tool to come out in a long time. It's a compact C300 Mark III with an internal data rate that outperforms the S1H. 1.46x Super 35 DGO Sensor, Cinema 4K, CLog 3, Internal ND. Only needs two SD cards, mini-XLR to XLR cable, two extra batteries! No need for a cage. As someone who's used quite a few of the Canon Cinema lineup to date, this is a tremendous feat! Bravo to Canon!

    CANON: Let's put 8K raw in a camera with no vents! Overheating won't be an issue, right?
    Also CANON: Let's add some vents to the C70 so that the 4K 10-bit footage doesn't get too toasty.

    • @ProAVTV
      @ProAVTV  4 ปีที่แล้ว +36

      Different cameras designed for different users with different priorities.
      The stills community wouldn't have reacted very well to a bulkier, non-weather sealed R5 just to keep us video users happy.
      Carl

    • @RiceCubeTech
      @RiceCubeTech 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      ProAV TV you can have weather sealing with vents lol. Phones have speakers and ports and retain IP ratings for complete submersion, it wouldn’t be too far to say a camera company couldn’t design a vent made of some sort of mesh with weather sealing against rain. Or just you know, use a better passive heat sink with better copper tubing and vapor chamber cooling

    • @alexsystems2001
      @alexsystems2001 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ProAV TV I agree vents and cooling would have added to the size of the R5 and wouldn’t have gone over well with photographers. BUT to get it straight with the weather sealing. The S1H retains its weather sealing with a fan and vents. So it’s not impossible, but impractical for a photographer who would be using the R5

    • @hugevibez
      @hugevibez 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@RiceCubeTech You'd be right except that all of the things you have listed have nothing to do with cooling.

    • @RiceCubeTech
      @RiceCubeTech 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@hugevibez but the idea is that openings in the body don't cause a lack of cooling. You could maintain resistance while offering better cooling, simply by having a thinner outer body. Let's heat through better or having parts of the camera that are thinner in some places. If the camera is magnesium alloy, they can go pretty thin in some spots and not compromise durability.

    This lil beast been on my mind all morning. It’s beautifully made & looks amazing & has all the specs you could ask for at that price range & to top it off it not a dslr it’s a cinema camera! but the price is about $1500 too high... $5500 if you have RF glass & $6000 if you don’t which we all don’t do this camera is actually $6000! The bmpcc6k is $3500 less with all the same features except built in Nd & autofocus which isn’t sitting right with me on canon’s behalf but Other than that this camera is a game changer for canon cinema & dslr lineup. It’s no need to buy a dslr or a c200 if you have this camera already but if you don’t then the c200 is a better deal if you need autofocus & built in Nd!

Your C300 Mk II + Sigma 18-35 (plus good lighting), seems to be the perfect combo for your use. C70 looking better than this? I've already tripped twice leaning so towards this new camera... @@PhoenicianSailor well, as I see it, the only advantage shooting raw on c200 over the c70 is changing the white balance in post. C70 files pretty much beat the heck out of c200s raw in terms of DR, noise and recovery from under and over exposing. I love shooting 12 bit raw on my C200 but i think i prefer the xf avc files from c70/c300iii because of pretty much everything including file size.

    Good afternoon, congratulations on the review. I currently have a SONY HXR NX80, I am a freelance cameraman and I would like to evolve. I am interested in the Canon C70 with a 100-500 lens or Sony A7Siii with a 100-400- lens, which do you think would be the best option considering that I would need it to record ballet in theaters where it would be located in the audio room in the background and only with the stage light. The precision of the autofocus is very important to me and the camera would be on a tripod with a zoom servo. Thank you very much and greetings from Lima Peru.

    Great stuff! One question, you talk about needing a modern computer to be able to reliably run the higher codec footage (without formatting), but couldn't you dual-write the best codec to one SD card and proxy files to the second SD? Then in post, link them up and you can skip the time-consuming and annoying step of transcoding. Am I mistaken? This was potentially a big selling point for me personally (I'm looking into finalizing my C70 purchase).

    An internal evf is rather comfortable for video, and in-body stabilization has proven very useful. If the R6 was uncrippled, it would have been better for many jobs. I'm OK with bridging mirrorless and c line so long as it retains the advantages of both.

      Only the 2K 180fps mode is in Super16 crop, I believe.

    Great preview! Do you think I should sell my S1H now and get this?

      Well that depends on many things. Do you use the stills side of the camera? Do you think the larger sensor and higher resolution would make more of a difference to your work than the DGO sensor, AF, Higher frame rates and video ergonomics on the C70 ?

      @@ProAVTV Perfect answer. How long will it take till the update the adapter for more Canon lenses? That's crucial question for me.

    Can you only use full frame lenses with the adapter? Or can you used Apsc lenses as well like sigma 18-35?

      With the new focal reducer you can only use full frame lenses. But Canon already have adaptors without optical elements in them that will work with APSC lenses like this one: www.proav.co.uk/canon-mount-adapter-ef-eos-r

    Why does Canon not have RAW on a camera like this while we have do have RAW on the BMPCC4K and 6k?

      Hard to understand to be honest! 100% sure it's capable of raw... But Canon just didn't make it available. Typical Canon Move. Still, an impressive camera in my opinion.

    In such an insatiable market dropping the Quasimodo of cinema cameras has me wondering - has Canon been absent in this area for too long? It's been 10 long years since the 5D MkII
