Such a great quick project. As you say great for those little gifts. Watching you sew is a pleasure and I always find a useful tip.....tweezers....why didn't I think of that...a great little tool. Thanks Marie!
Hi Daphne! At first I almost didn’t make a video about them, since I knew it wouldn’t be a long video. But then, I figured that a lot of people might find it useful. There are so many different ways to make key fobs, so I thought I would throw my hat in the ring and show everyone the two methods that I use. As far as tweezers go, I starting using them years ago because unless I get acrylic nails (which I do now), I don’t have any fingernails with which to grab the thread. I also struggle with severe dry skin, so that even if I am able to grab the thread, it catches on the dry skin of my fingertips and unthreads the machine. The tweezers are great because I can fit them in around the small spaces of the sewing machine and they work as my fingertips. I love them!
These are excellent I do have to hold my hands up and say I did run with your idea the day you showed the key fobs for your craft fair 😉so my challenge for today is to piece together my tinyest scraps to make one for myself Yeah!!! huge hugs and loves 😃
Good morning Jo! I figured that you would use the tiny scraps. It’s funny, because when I pieced my three squares together, I thought of all my little crumbs and how pretty they would look and you came to mind. It’s almost like I KNEW what you would use before I even put the video out there. Enjoy the rest of your day!
I love that 😘 haha well it was a challenge I'm not going to lie as I folded it in, those hundreds of seams bulked out so almost scorched my fingers (this is where those clips came in lol) I will do a couple more though because I loved the look 💖💕💖
@@111shoge Ouch! I scorched my fingers with steam a few days ago trying to get really close when I was making a lanyard. I suppose that the scrappy key fobs would be a project that need a lot of steam and a good hot iron.
I have been making these for years. So much fun. For my female friends who jog or walk alone, I also added a referee's whistle...just in case they found themselves in a precarious situation...
Glad it was helpful! I hope you have a lot of fun making these. They’re a fun and quick project, and I have made so many over the past few years. I want to get them out and people seem to love to receive them. Happy sewing!
Good morning Rachel! Isn’t that funny how that works out? I used to tell Robin (rsislandcrafts) the same thing. I would be making some thing and boom, then she would have a video for it. I told her she must be psychic, ha ha.
Another channel tip for key fobs. Put E600 glue or hot glue inside the key fob hardware to secure the fabric inside the hardware (end where fabric goes in)before clamping it down. It’s extra security and that way u don’t have to hold on to the fabric when clamping it down!
Hi Janice! Thank you! I actually just bought some Gorilla glue the other day. It said it could be used on metal, cloth, wood, etc. I don't remember exactly which formula it was, but I got it so that I could use it when I put Chicago screws into my wallets when I make them. I figure if it will hold that, it will definitely hold the tip of a key fob.
Oh how I could have used this a few years ago when I was making them for my quilt guild! This is an easier, and dare I say, less expensive way to make these than I did. I used a strap material that I sewed a braid on which certainly cost more than scraps and fabric. They were beautiful and very sturdy, but I do like these better. I also like the idea of using the key ring versus the key fob hardware. I will have to make myself one using your technique.
Hi Nancy! I know quite a few people who have made them the way you described. I just didn’t want to have to buy anything unnecessarily in order to use up my scraps. You know me, I have to use scraps, ha ha. I’m glad I was able to help you out, though. Let me know how they turn out. Take care!
Marie, First I LOVE this project! Second,I noticed you have the same issue I have with my sewing machine sitting in my sewing table with some gaps around the edges of the machine. I wanted to share a tip that helped me cover those gaps. Dollar tree has clear plastic chopping mats in a pack of 2 for $1.25. They measure 11x17 and are the thickness of template material. I laid the mat on my sewing machine and table and marked around the presser foot, and feed dogs then used a Xacto knife to cut out the hole to allow them to work properly. I taped the chopping mat to my sewing table/sewing machine with painter's tape, and it works great to keep my chain piecing from getting caught up in the crack between my machine and the table. Just thought I'd share this little trick in case you find that to be an issue for you too. Have a great week!
Hi Suzanne! Thank you, I'm glad that you like the project. I love your idea! I actually just bought some of that cutting board stuff the last time I was at Dollar Tree, because I needed it for templates. I think I'm going to have to see if there's such a thing as white or clear painter's tape so I can try to cover the edges. My sewing machine isn't level with the sewing table, there's a little bit of a gap, so it would go down from the sewing machine to the table at a slope. I still love this idea. Thank you so much for sharing this with me. I'm going to see if I can make it work for me.
@@MariesScrappyCreations I had the same problem with my machine sitting just slightly too low as well. So I added a little rubber non slip pad under the machine (this also reduced some vibration noise I was dealing with) that raised it just enough to be level with my table. It took some fiddling but now it sits just right. I also put a rectangle of Styrofoam that came in a package behind my machine to fill the gap there because my machine is much smaller than the table opening. The table was a gift from a friend so i made it work for me. Necessity is the mother of invention lol.
That's a great idea. But actually, my machine bed is a bit taller than the table so it would slant downward to the table. I have a fairly thin mat underneath my sewing machine, but that has to stay there. About a month or so ago, my cat got up on top of my sewing machine and when she jumped down, she pushed off with her legs and dumped my machine on the floor and it split into 4 pieces. I'm very lucky that it evwn works. But anyway, that's why I have that mat underneath it, so it can't slip as easily. Thank you so much!

Hi Cindy. Thanks! I charge $5 each for the key fobs. The only ones I made for the craft fair were the ones with the key fob hardware, not the ones with the round key ring.
Good morning Patricia! I’m glad you like the idea and I’m happy that you like my instructions. I’m sorry about not mentioning the width of the batting. I guess your question was answered. I cut it just under 1” wide, just as Anita mentioned.

Great tutorial. Great idea. How much do you charge for these at the craft fairs? Much Love
Hi Cindy. Thanks! I charge $5 each for the key fobs. The only ones I made for the craft fair were the ones with the key fob hardware, not the ones with the round key ring.
These are really cute gift ideas. Thank you - your instructions are great!
What width/length is your batting?
Try one inch or just slightly under to fit into the crease. By length of your fabric and cut to fit if using method 2
@@AnitaSouthall thank you
Good morning Patricia! I’m glad you like the idea and I’m happy that you like my instructions. I’m sorry about not mentioning the width of the batting. I guess your question was answered. I cut it just under 1” wide, just as Anita mentioned.
Thank you Anita! I had meant to mention that and now I am second-guessing, as I must not have. So many things to remember, ha ha. Thank you for helping out, I appreciate it!

I just made 20+ key fobs for each member of a group I belong to.
Good morning Janet! That’s wonderful, I’m sure they love them! I made so many for the craft fair this past summer. That’s when I got the idea to make a tutorial about them. Happy sewing!

I love your tote bags!Where do you live?
Thank you! I love making tote bags, actually bags of any kind. I live in Maine 🥰
What is this key fob for?
How is it used???
Hi! The opening fits around your wrist (if you want to carry it) and on the end is a metal circle to clip your keys on to. It's just a very pretty way to carry your keys 🔑 💕
