    Nice we have the SAME exact whip. Think I've had for about 2 years now. Upgraded to the M sport intake and chip which is supposed to add another 35hp and I got the M pipes. Also have AFE dry drop in so I SHOULD be pushin around 340 345 hp. Definitely feel the difference from stock to now. Fun car looking to upgrade to new 440 or m4. Nice video

    Good call on replacing the pipes, I literally couldn't wait (had pipes on order) and gave mine a 'onramp pull' and blew my charge pipe at the throttle body on command. N55's 'to the wheel' stock typically range in the 280's hp and tq btw. There is drivetrain loss, but historically BMWish results of 'not as much loss' as others. 93 tune stg1 is quite noticeable increase (that '.5-.7 sec buttdial range) especially with hardened boost/charge pipes and intake/intercooler. Plop in a good DP, cut out your resonator, and you won't even have to play with muffler changes and the overcharge costs there (unless you're looking for a specific note for your exhaust to play that is).

    • @dionisifilpo7735
      @dionisifilpo7735 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Damn 40 HP drivetrain loss that a lot don't you think, I was thinking more around 15-20 . However I never dyno my car So I wouldn't know.

    • @ayyyman_
      @ayyyman_  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yup! Shortly after this video I actually installed my downpipe. I was debating on a resonator delete. People have recommended that but people also say to keep it and remove the muffler. Idk… I think I’m just gonna remove the resonator

    • @JayyEVee
      @JayyEVee 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dionisifilpo7735 Most RWD cars will lose 10-18% from the crank to the wheels. However RWD BMWs from my own experience dyno more in the range of only 5-10% loss (or on the other hand - they may be understating some engines' outputs - which all car makers do to some extent). ;)
      A guide - but not a holy scripture; varies per car maker and model (how well was it built/engineered) and finally, how well is the car maintained and currently running.
      ■FWD: 10-15% loss;
      ■RWD: 10-18% loss;
      ■AWD: 17-25% loss.
      So a stock n55 rwd 335 with 300hp crank generally dynos in mid 270's-low 280's (weather, altitude, etc etc). That's only a 5-10% loss, rather decent!

    I have a 2016 435i with charge pipe, intake and AWE exhaust, stage 1 bootmod3 93 octane ots tune, and the car is substantially louder with the tune on than when it is on the stock tune. I'm running an OEM cat as well with burble off. I'd disagree that the tune does not affect the sound. Even the idle is louder than the stock tune.
    Regarding power, while you likely are getting 40-50 horsepower morethan your stock low and mid range numbers, that's still not increasing those numbers above your stock peak horsepower # down at those revs, but it is likely close. Realistically, your peak horsepower is likely about a 25 increase from stock at around 330 wheel. While peak gain is not super impressive sounding on its own, the low and mid range gain is a large percentage increase over stock (potentially around 25%) at those revs, and the tune is absolutely worthwhile for the 600 bucks bootmod3 costs. It's an incredible deal. Cheers. These are fun cars!

    • @ayyyman_
      @ayyyman_  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey thanks for the insight! I’m curious, do you think your exhaust helped brig out the sound on stage 1? My exhaust is completely stock so I barely could tell any difference. But yes I agree, Bootmod3 is a great value! Definitely very fun cars

    • @ryanf4502
      @ryanf4502 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ayyyman_ I think yours probably just isn't noticeable because it is stock. I can see it being negligible sound difference with the stock exhaust on there. If you ever throw a catback on the car you can run it stock tune first and then retune and you'll probably laugh the first time you start it after it's tuned. Cold starts are savage especially if it's cold outside. After 30 seconds or so the idle drops and it quiets down a ton much closer to stock, but under acceleration and general idle it's still noticeably louder than on stock tune imo. As long as you keep a cat on there it's not stupid loud with a decent exhaust system. I've had a catless downpipe on mine and it was super obnoxiously loud. I hated it. Stock cat and a nice exhaust behind it is definitely the play in my opinion sound wise, and also if you live somewhere where inspections are mandatory.

      Hey @Michael R. Ingelsby, did you figure out what's going on? I picked up a 2016 340 on the weekend and on the drive back home on the highway, I got the drivetrain error with reduced performance output message several times - car didn't feel like it had/has less power though. Code said something about a knock sensor signal.....

    • @michaelr.ingelsby1975
      @michaelr.ingelsby1975 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mahusky720 thanks for asking about my issue. Incredibly, I got the vehicle back from the BMW dealership yesterday in perfect health. What is interesting is they changed out spark plugs per the recommendation of my service interval and changed the oil. They could not get the code to duplicate for me, but I definitely lost power and it was unsettling. However, the head shop foreman "cautioned the high pressure fuel pump" as something they have noted as to "intermittent diagnostic activity" while the dealership service had the vehicle for the past 2 weeks. It has been known that sensors can set off that code for you, so the knock sensor sounds like an easy and inexpensive fix...this time 👌

      I had similar good luck with my 2014 535i that I didn't replace any pipes on. Just added an intake and 93 tune - 2 years no issues. I pick up a 2015 335i (same n55 engine mind you) and newer with half the mileage the 5 has on it. I blew the charge pipe from the throttle body in less than a week after tuning. While I hope your luck runs on - consider getting the charge pipe changed before you are stranded. If it blows - drop the car in Eco and limit yourself to under 2.5k rpm as best you can.. If your turbo tries to spool and you do this a good amount with a blown pipe - your bearings in the turbo can melt. That is a repair you don't want. Lets just say after that, I bought 2 charge pipe kits - 1 for each car.
