South Africa had Nelson Mandela and Zimbabwe had Joshua Nkomo-he saw no Shona, no Ndebele but Zimbabweans. He was a father to all.Missing you Umdala with.

He was in talks to become president until he admitted shooting down those 2 aircraft. At that point he was doomed.

I blame u baba Nkomo for our troubles today. He was too accommodating to the other side. The other side of the Patriotic Front was too marcahveli . If he had been a bit devious ,he would have easy led us from day one in 1980.

As a white Policeman I had Mr Nkomos house in Pelindaba under my Security watch. We were always respectful towards each other and was in fact friends with some of his Family and top men. We witnessed the rage between Zanu and Zapu during the Entumbane time and realised then that had Zipra (Or ZAPU) and Smiths Government joined forces we would have had a different Zimbabwe today. A pity Mr Nkoma chose to support Mugabe as it was only a question if time before old tribal hatreds would emerge and the shona would use their power to take down the Ndebele and any opposition. Mugabes election was won only on a numbers game, thats all, 80% Shona and 20% Ndebele. Doesnt take a genius to have seen that from the begining. A united Government under Nkomo, Muzorewa and Smith would and could have build a Fantastic country for us all. RIP Mr Nkomo, just a pity you couldnt see the Trees for the forest at the time. Zanla forces were absoluitly no match at all against the Rhodesian army (80% Blacks) and the Zipra forces.

…and if such an alliance ( Zipra and Smith) would have happened, how long would the old racial hatred surfaced? You recon longer than your so called tribal ones??

If this man had run Zim instead of Bob it may have been a different story.

@@malvernwarmington4942 Stop with this ageism nonsense. There is no young person in political understanding. Mugabe was a tribalist & I still believe if he wasn't a tribalist he could have managed the country well but his tribalism further created nepotism & one of the most corrupt countries in the world to date. Mugabe failed running the country in all aspects especially economically, he drove it to a junk status.

That's where Nkomo sold out, uniting with Zanu under ZIPA then Nikitha was made a 2nd in command. On the other hand JZ was 2nd in command as well on the administrative side, today all Matabele pple are 2nd VPs. I can't believe Nkomo was too blind to see the sinister motives of these Zanu pple
