Would this method work on the 17.5 hp opposed twin carb? It starts hard and tries to die and then revs up in order to stay running. It's almost like a surge. Runs great above idle.
Drilling it out would help. If it’s all stock and it’s doing that then you either have a dirty carb with plugged up mains or a fuel delivery problem. I would start by tearing the carb apart and doing a through cleaning and spray brake cleaner through all the passages and jets.
@@deerwithitUwU you can try drilling out the low side but an opposed twin carb is different than a vTwin carb. Oppy carbs work great once they are modified. I have a video on how I converted the carb to use an aftermarket fuel pump.
The repair that you just did is that good for Drag Racing? I see that you have a bullet flywheel did you do your timing set yourself? Just looking for tips to make a stock nikki carb faster.. thanks Billy
barnett37 it’s good for pretty much any machine due to them being lean from the factory. The billet flywheels have adjustments and you can easily adjust timing from stock to retard/advance settings till your engine is happy.
Ok if I get a new nikki carb.do you recommended this out of the box ? Does this give you more power ? Or just fix idle.. looking to get more power from the carb like drilling main jets. Thanks Billy
barnett37 yes because they are lean straight out of the box. If it does give you more power you won’t “feel it in the seat of your pants” type of power. It will just make it more efficient due to correct air/fuel ratio. It will give you better throttle response depending on how you built your engine but don’t expect a noticeable difference when driving.
barnett37 Crap Lol I forgot to send the pictures. I will set a reminder for me to get pictures tonight after work and email them to you. Sorry about the delay!
do you no what that drill set is called? is it made for drilling torch jets or welding tips or what? ive found some purpose made carb drilling sets but crazy expensive wat ive done in the past is drill the jet to16th then wedge or solder small strands of copper wire in to lean it out and this does work on a standard walbro really well because of where the jet is and its design but for a 2bbl i need symetrical holes
It's called a welders tip drill set. Pretty cheap but not long enough for what I need. Yeah some of those sets can set your wallet back a few bucks. That's why I made this video
thanx man... if you get a chance check out my budies channel (christopher custer) if you search 'badass offroad mower' it should come up but the newest project is a full suspension rally mower and i have a lot more projects he hasnt uploaded yet like many mini bikes and a wheelhorse 211-4 racer i stuffed an oppy into...
badass offroad mower! idk if the ! would make a difference but i am subbed to his channel idk if that helps im bad at youtube thats y chris does the vids
Find your engine size (ci) and go from there. Most people replace the rods, get a billet flywheel, and a better cam. If you need any more help just shoot me a email and I can help you find what your looking for Haulngrassracing@gmail.com
I am working on a friend's Lawn mower right now that has the exact same issue. Lean on one side black and fuzzy on the other and really hard to start. It's been getting progressively worse. I was thinking its more to do with valve clearance. I have already been drilling low speed jets on many lawn mowers and snowblowers because of this issue. What a damn joke!. I may have to drill out those jets too. My other choice is replacing the damn carburetor. These manufacturers are stupid making these things like they are.
RC Hobbyist Extreme Yeah, they do it so it’s not such a gas hog. Air cooled engine can take quite a bit of heat and still keep on trucking. Drilling the jets isn’t hard, it’s just hard to find a tool that can get in there to do it. After drilling mine out it fires right up.
Haul'N Grass it's all stock I've rebuild the carb 3 times the first time with a carb kit I even soaked it and boiled it I've had this problem all summer nothing I do to it will get rid of the low idle surge
Stevet19791 if you are running the plastic intake make sure its not over tightened to the heads. They are only suppose to be snugged. You can spray carb cleaner or starting fluid around where they connect and if the engine rpm changes then you know you have a leak.
Haul'N Grass done all that before I drill the Jets out no idle change when spraying but I did notice after drilling I'm getting a lot of black smoke when it surges
Stevet19791 How far did you still the jets out? Have you checked your governor by holding the gov arm and seeing if it idles better? What color are your plugs?
What happens to the metal shavings that fall into the carb??wont they clog the needle?, fuel intake?
The carb was cleaned before putting back on the mower
Turn it upside down and drill it so it will fall out
One thing I do is add a fuel filter between pump and carb
Trash can come from old pump
Thanks
WurstExpress #616 anytime!
cool can't wait for first ride
Thanks. will try to get something done today, hopefully.

@@haulngrassracing I cleaned the carb. Several times. I put a rebuild kit in it and it ran better, but it still won't idle

How did you hook up your accelerator cable to this carb ?

+I.C. karting 👍
One drill set is called: Micro Drill Bit Set. item # 554-004.
What size would you say stock size is. Great video
I'm really not sure. best way to check is get a set of welders tip cleaners and see which one goes through then mic it.
I'm trying to get into this sport but can you make a video on how to get racing parts please?
best place to get speed parts is Www.eccarburetors.com sorry I missed this comment
+Haul'N Grass like I don't know what parts are the right ones for it

I've had to do this on alot of earlier intek twins. Just too damn lean!

You may not have to buy a. Starter it sounded like the gear on your starter was grinding the flywheel gears
Yeah someone else told me to space it out some more.
best place to buy stuff is Www.eccarburetors.com and best place to start is www.heymow.com
I drilled mine didn't help made it worse another v twin getting scrapped sick of these pos's
