Guess it would also mean to not put yourself down for your own problems---just because others have it far worse doesn't mean your own problems aren't valid.
All valid and true, but you have to aknowledge that maybe some of your problems are really trivial. People complain about all sorts of things today, and sometimes you really can not do more than shake your head. Again, I am not disagreeing, I am just saying, first world problems, the term exists for a reason ;).

Read his book and you feel like you never even knew the guy. Massive respect and love for who he is after all the stuff from his childhood. He deserves everything good in life.
Please do not be fooled by this disgusting man, he is a slum lord of note here in South Africa. He and his mother buy derelict buildings them install people, take the rent and never pay for water and electricity, with rats running around all over, no flushing toilets, rubbish piling up all over the place, so PLEASE he is hated here in South Africa because of that and then he goes overseas and says oh poor me I had such a bad upbringing when he himself is doing it to the people who live here. He is a liar Of NOTE!
I actually researched what +Wendy Ferguson said and I actually found news about it and it look like it's from a reliable source, IMO anyways. But the issue of what you are saying, is that you cannot fault the son for his mothers mistakes or greed, I don't see or haven't read in anyway or form that Trevor is involved in this except you claiming it. www.iol.co.za/news/south-africa/gauteng/trevor-noahs-slumlord-mom-2040078 . There a lot more but I'm too lazy to look for them and put it here haha
+Wendy Ferguson I've seen you in almost every video of Trevor's with the same BS... what's your plan? get him hated on by one American at a time? What is all this to you? smh pathetic really!
Steven can be a bit dismissive. Sometimes he has a guest he wasn't very sure of from the outset, so the guest gets one segment and Steven only has questions for one segment. Then, as here, the guest comes out with some good stuff, like the Born a Crime material, but Steven has to gloss over it because they weren't sure it was going to be any good, and he isn't prepared. HIs question about Americans having their rights taken away is frankly insulting to a gut who just explained he couldn't go outside for the first six years of his life because he might be picked up and taken to an orphanage. I sometimes think Colbert was better when he was being a preposterous figure of fun. The old Colbert would have asked that rights question of an apartheid South African. That was a toe-curling moment: "Yeah ok fine, but enough about you, what about us?"
I read it differently. I think he meant what did Trevor think of Trump supporters' who think their rights being taken away when they are not really considering the actual crap that Trevor Noah experienced.
I came to his show taping once, Trevor did Q & A with audience before the show. He asked the audience where they come from, and he did a joke on every place the audience mentioned. Very smart and knowledgeable guy.
"I can never judge somebody for thinking that their world is tough, because it is tough to you" Great words especially when hearing it from someone else after i've been trying to tell it to people all my life :D
+jimmy santos Trevor Noah is a comedian. I think he meant that Colbert is trying not to laugh at all the hilarious jokes hes making, not that Trevor isnt smart. Its a compliment. Why would you call him a hater?
jimmy santos What? I meant it as a compliment. Trevor, a comedian, was making Colbert, another comedian, laugh. Two pros enjoying each other very much. It's good stuff. P.S. I enjoy Trevor very much.
I read Born A Crime yesterday. Well to be honest I read it yesterday and last night and this morning. Because I couldn't sleep - I couldn't put it down. This is not just an extraordinary story - this is a lesson in worldview. Every single chapter leads us artfully through a life lesson, a wisdom, a change in worldview. No value can be placed on this book. It is of inestimable worth. Because it helps us to walk a day in someone else's shoes. Because it helps us to live a different life, through Noah, a life that is beyond our imaginings (at least for most of us). Because it helps us to understand that difference doesn't need to be scary although it often feels that way, difference doesn't need to be threatening although it often feels that way, and difference doesn't need to be hated although it often feels that way. Because we are all, every single one of us, just making our way through life the best way we know how with the tools we've been given.
+Bob Smeerfak I liked your description of him - especially authentic. Many comedians are restless and try so much to put on a good show. He on the other hand is quite confident and natural with comedy.
Trevor is good at hosting the Daily Show but his stand-up is just amazing. I watched his specials on TH-cam way before he was gonna replace Jon Stewart. I felt like such a damn hipster when it was announced and nobody knew him. lol
Same here. I'm glad he's still doing standup. Not dissing his version of the Daily Show, but I think standup is where he shines the most. He's one of the best.
He can't be bombing hard if he's still there---he's actually become pretty good on the show, and yes, he does seem wise beyond his years. I saw clips of his stand up about three years ago, long before he was even know in the U.S., and I liked his act, and also thought he was hot even then. It's been nice seeing him blow up big like this.
Very interesting hearing his perspective, and I think it's a good perspective to have. Pain, loss and trauma is subjective, and just because you have or haven't gone through worse things than another person, you can't (or at least, shouldn't) say that their experiences aren't valid.
Yeah, I've always felt that way about it but I felt I could never explain it in a way that would't offend someone or make me sound like an entitled ass. So glad I can explain it better now
Trevor expressed a viewpoint I have long held; people's experiences are subjective. We are built to feel stress and to judge unfair situations. Everyone has personal difficulties, even if not everyone has been through hell.
watch his docu on netflix, he was looking forward to being "black" when he moved to America because it was such a stigma for him to be who he was in S. Africa
i'm really glad and happy to see that people actually love Trevor, was worried about his start, but it seems its all good now. Stephen Colbert a legend too by the way.
My dad works sixteen hours a day @ two separate hospitals. He's been doing it since before I was born. We moved to another town that was 115 miles away. My mother & I are at home during the week. She works, I go to school. My dad gets off of work @ 10:30 PM on Friday night and gets home @ 1:30 AM Saturday morning after driving 115 Miles. He stays Saturday and leaves Sunday @ 3:30 PM. He retires in two years. He comes all the from San Jose, California to Clovis, California. My dad works far harder than any man I've ever known. Life can be hard. But Noah summed it up well, it's in that eye of the beholder kind of vein.
It's great that he continues to do standup. I admire Bill Maher for seemingly announcing stand up shows at the end of every show.I've seen some of Noha's standup and he's good. I love that he didn't stop. A lot of standups stop when they get shows.
True, it's an old trope, but this time I am awed by his compassion and humility toward other peoples' perceived struggles. He's not only funny, he's thoughtful! (Which ofc true Noah fans know already) :D
i expected people hating on trevor in the comments instead i see people praising him and im like YASSSSSS ITS ABOUT FUCKING TIME!!!! so to u people thank u and seeing 2 of my favorite comedians together is great
Every time I see a video of him I think I can't possibly love this kid anymore! Then I find another 1 and I do. What a rare combination of hysterical humor, fascinating Background, and truly humble human being! My only complaint is he needs to do more videos with his grandmother. If you have not seen that woman go find the video .She is as funny as he is and in her 90s sharp as a tack!!
I love people from Africa sooooo much!!! They have such a different and amazing perspective on life. They're insanely hard workers and, unlike too many people, they have a very commendable and unwavering honor, integrity, self respect, and honesty. And they tend to get incredibly pissed off when it is challenged or taken from them! They also are incredibly loyal and make amazing friends. I had two of these wonderful immigrated African friends growing up and I wish I still knew where they were!!
Yeah. In apartheid era South Africa interracial marriage and sex was illegal. Having done my research, I believe South Africa got rid of that law in 1986, which was a sign of the country moving away from apartheid. But I'll admit, as someone who is of mixed race, it's just really gives me a cringing feeling when I hear those words.
@erickofspirit. America played a significant role in that change. There was a public outcry here, beginning about 1984, to release Mandella from imprisonment. It echoed internationally, and US banks, worried over the increasing violence that was happening there, called in their loans. Eventually Congress passed economic sanctions under the 1986 Comprehensive Anti-Apartheid Act. The S. African government, realizing that they had become international social pariahs then began a long series of reforms.
That is a very one sided account of history. International pressure certainly had an impact on the end of apartheid but it definitely wasn't the primary factor and it wasn't just America. This trivializes the efforts of Nelson Mandela, the ANC, and the rest of the anti-apartheid movement that took place in South Africa.
Oh lord the compassion and empathy Trevor showed! One year later, looking at this, the quality of understanding other people is so rare that it'd become a super power now
What??? If you knew he was South African and took a look at him so you would see his of mix race figure out his age (which is available on the internet anyway) and you would know! I mean if you are aware of other countries histories and happenings.
I knew he was South African, and that he was mixed, but it never occurred to me that he literally a "crime" for about 6 yrs of his life...Many people do not know enough about Apartheid, American schools gloss over it and situations like Trevor's are essentially unimaginable so foreigners wouldn't think to know/assume this.
One of my former colleagues is amazing at teaching his high school students about Apartheid (with the cooperation of the entire campus). For three weeks, he has them carry around a pocket-sized stamp booklet (similar to how black South Africans had to carry their ID booklets during Apartheid), and any time anyone requested it, they'd have to show it to them to stamp. Every year, this results in situations where their coaches would demand to see their booklets during practice (so the students can't leave them in the locker room), the administrators would require students to show it upon entering campus, and even their fellow peers would call them late at night to go over to their houses to check their booklets. He makes his students feel like they're second-class citizens in their own school and neighborhood so they could experience Apartheid for themselves.
ZhangtheGreat We need more teachers that can put things into perspective for their students like your colleague did; we would have less ignorance in the world!
this man said his idea of relaxing is working in another venue....hard working of another type...that is the drive that so many youth of this past 2 generations for the most part is missing...
Those comments were wise beyond his years: Don't judge the struggles of others as if they were your own...
There's something like that in an old book: James 5:9
That said, perspective is a valuable trait that I too often see people in the West lacking.
xniquilador Their is also something like that in other religion (Buddhism as an example), philosophy and even pop culture not only christianity. Properly because it is a really good lesson for all of us to lean.

Trevor seems like a really smart guy.. I wasnt sure anyone could follow Jon but he has done it exceptionally well..
Lol....Smart....HAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHHAHHAHAHAH.
Matt H you're obviously amusing yourself? why do you say he isnt smart? he seems very articulate and intelligent..
Matt H he speaks 5 languages... how many do you speak?
+Mark Rendell
he's not smart because he doesn't like trump

Not enough time to fully talk to this guy.

trevor must be one of the smartest people colbert ever talk to. colbert seems speechless when trevor talks
It seems more like Colbert is trying not to fall out laughing.
Jeweled Bird = Trevor Noah hater
+jimmy santos Trevor Noah is a comedian. I think he meant that Colbert is trying not to laugh at all the hilarious jokes hes making, not that Trevor isnt smart. Its a compliment. Why would you call him a hater?
You saw it as a compliment...I saw it as an insult......only Jewel can clear this up.
jimmy santos What? I meant it as a compliment. Trevor, a comedian, was making Colbert, another comedian, laugh. Two pros enjoying each other very much.
It's good stuff.
P.S. I enjoy Trevor very much.
I have so many good things to say about Trevor Noah. I wish we could be friends in real life, haha
Totally agree I'd smoke a joint with him (if he was down) I bet he'd have some interesting shit to say haha
seems like you wanna give him some "luv yuu lon time"
Nah he just seems like he'd be chill to smoke with, now excuse me while I eat 5 mg of clonazepam and tell my day to fuck off at 4 am
***** haha yeah, joint or jointless he seems like he'd have a lot of interesting things to share
Street Hierarchy who is?
Why isn't anyone hating on him here?
I was waiting for haters to say something. His wisdom silenced them.
Trevor has bombed so far on the daily show (and the ratings reflect that). Feel better?
Leggo My Ego lmao that’s why it’s still thriving 4 years later
I'll have to use that quote going forward

"Remember, remember, the Fifth of November, the Trevor Noah Standup and Plot. I know of no reason why the Trevor Noah Standup should ever be forgot"
Holy shit I *knew* I heard that date somewhere before!!
yayyy..thnx
Yeah, Hillary!
First thing that came to my mind as well when he gave the date :)
I was born then
It continues to stun me just how soft spoken he is.
wow, can u imagine having to hide your child, for fear of someone telling on you and taking them away? Thats so sad.
rugdg13 and instead of being resentful or bitter he's completely kind and wise
So its true then; the Swiss really do have an appetite for chocolate.

don't plagiarise his joke

Well we South Africans miss him here in SA. It's been while and we'd like to see his stand up again.
he’s so on point about everyone seeing their challenges in life as tough. such a brilliant mind.
Very interesting hearing his perspective, and I think it's a good perspective to have. Pain, loss and trauma is subjective, and just because you have or haven't gone through worse things than another person, you can't (or at least, shouldn't) say that their experiences aren't valid.

I agree to an extent until people abuse that concept. like no wifi, or something like that
i love what he says about having people in different situations and their problems being valid...one not being worse than the other!
Trevor expressed a viewpoint I have long held; people's experiences are subjective. We are built to feel stress and to judge unfair situations. Everyone has personal difficulties, even if not everyone has been through hell.
Two of my favorite peoples together as friends. What a wonderful thing.
I love Trevor Noah. Articulate, intelligent, genuine, down to earth, gorgeous and really damn funny!!
Like Bane and Darth Vader had a child? So Kylo Ren?
Buff Kylo Ren perhaps?
Except with small ears and decent teeth!
+Not A Beauty Guru except with a face of a sloth
+Master Shake sadly mistaken sir. You have the face of a sloth. Trevor Noah is sexy af. Hater.
Two of the smartest men in entertainment.
He is so brilliant! I could listen to him all day.
Nelly buy his audiobook
Stephen: "How are you alive ?"
Trevor: "Black Don't Crack."
lmao
***** im just kidding man. chill
watch his docu on netflix, he was looking forward to being "black" when he moved to America because it was such a stigma for him to be who he was in S. Africa
But they do crack all the time.
racist much?
Fucking love both of these guys.
only in 1990? wow thats bad
I dont know how anyone can bad mouth people like mandela
Well Racism helps but he like all men has faults.
And then some people say racism is over … we are in the process of slowly healing
Unless youre from an arabian country. Then it seems to get slowly worse.
I am from an arabian country, I believe there is far more racism in the US than here
Abdelmajid Oughdoud Yes, that was my point. America isnt healing. They just switched targets.
i'm really glad and happy to see that people actually love Trevor, was worried about his start, but it seems its all good now. Stephen Colbert a legend too by the way.
The show's ratings have tanked since Trevor took over, and the odds of him losing the show are pretty high.
He had a rocky start, but I really really like him now and hope he keeps going.
i tried watching a few times and i dont like him as a host. i tried and I'll prob try again but so far I'm hoping they get someone else.
i second that! Stewart chose really well
My dad works sixteen hours a day @ two separate hospitals. He's been doing it since before I was born. We moved to another town that was 115 miles away.

He comes all the from San Jose, California to Clovis, California.
My dad works far harder than any man I've ever known.
Life can be hard. But Noah summed it up well, it's in that eye of the beholder kind of vein.
Trevor Noah is a cute smol cupcake and we need to protect him
I wish Trevor Noah would let me watch his show online, but apparently Canadians are unworthy, and must be blocked from it. :'(
dude im south african and i cant even watch it
what are you talking about? its on DSTV unless you don't have DSTV
+Shaun Nodangala yep .. I don't have dstv
You can view some snippets of the show on the youtube channel. Other than that.. *cough*streaming sites*cough*

Trevor you are so awesome, you just don’t know how much.thank you. You put a smile on my face every time I listen to you
I love Trevor. He's hilarious and has a great perspective on American culture.
mocking americans is all he has. and it's not even funny.
Leftist political hack, nothing more.
well said!
@@emcats84 wat?

2 smart ppl having an intelligent chat. Too bad it won't reach a million views.

The awkward moment when u realise that even if the views do reach 1m vids of cats and jb got 100 times the views this one got. Trash world is trash :(
It has now, but only barely
well it did so...
"it's bad for you, and that's all it needs to be" jeeezus that was deep
Trevoh Noah be like; only cool kids will remember apartheid from their chilhood
LOL WHAT. What brainwashing are you talking about?
I feel like there was another comment here that got deleted, because I'm missing something huge.
That's a brilliant title. Can't wait to read it.
Trevor Noah fans already know this.
he uses this joke to much
+Jared Gangadaran it needs to be known
It's a fact, not a joke.
And it's "too" not "to"
True, it's an old trope, but this time I am awed by his compassion and humility toward other peoples' perceived struggles. He's not only funny, he's thoughtful! (Which ofc true Noah fans know already) :D
Love Trevor.Such an intelligent,kind kid.
it's weird to think once upon a time myself and my son would be illegal
oh wow, such a smart guy
1984...HOLY SH*T...he's only 5 years older than me. What am I doing with my life?
mocks americans for their pathetic problems, in a compassionate way
he's so wise, eloquent, insanely attractive and he seems really accepting of other people's struggles.l Damn. His accent too haha
This interview is everything. Loved every minute of it.
I think election night there should be a square table with Colbert, Oliver, Noah, and Papa Stewart
i expected people hating on trevor in the comments instead i see people praising him and im like YASSSSSS ITS ABOUT FUCKING TIME!!!! so to u people thank u and seeing 2 of my favorite comedians together is great
i can imagine how passive aggressive a Bane + Vader relationship is....

He's a great guy. Wise and witty. His only fault is not being Jon Stewart.

Out here waiting for the price of this book to drop like a Rand against a Dollar so I can get myself a copy
