This is such a well edited and insightful video with a healthy amount of humour sprinkled in…thank you so much for taking the extra time to make such videos! Vanguard honestly needs more videos like this…
I would like to add a few things since i've practiced intensively against levidras for WGP 1. Levidras is really weak to rush, try to get levidras to high damage before the deck stabilizes itself. 2. Count your numbers and consider the values when boosting or attacking with a unit that has a marker on it. This is the most important thing to consider when playing against levidras due to the sheer value of activating the marker, its okay to not boost or attack with a unit when the power isn't high enough. 3. Keep in mind levidras doesn't have any board control and doesn't draw much on their own turn. 4. Levidras usually doesn't have extra shield so a 10k guard can be annoying for them. 5. ALWAYS retire foxil if possible. Overall the video points out some good information about how levidras works and its weakness from the deck itself, but matchups and each decks' gameplan especially early game can have a huge impact when going against levidras.
Phenomenal video. Currently levidras is my deck of choice and my deck testing buddy really really dislikes fighting this deck. I think having an actual breakdown of how the deck functions, what its key pieces are, how the deck both does and doesn’t work with those pieces when/if those pieces are seen really helps people have a fuller understanding of how decks actually work . Plus the Aelqualibra bit at the end was very helpful. I’ve actually lost most to that deck in tournaments w/ levidras lol
Great vid as always. My only real thing to take away is that because of the state of our secondary market with staples, swapping decks is not an economically easy ask for younger players and our casual bros. Especially when other games like Pokemon and G.A. keeps its secondary market in some form of check.
swear i’ve watched this like four times already. always my favourite videos of yours! thank you for taking the time to carefully research for the video and yet still make it so interesting and fun
I think part of people's frustration with the meta is the high roll nature of something like levi or Rez. The fact Rez could open dog, or multiple dog + other pieces one game and then they next they have no g2 turn at all. Similar with levi, it might open old levi + an insane board one game and then nothing the next. Course neither deck HAS to open absurd to be playable, but the high roll is insanely unfun to play into. When it comes to rushing to beat a deck. Thats a tale as old as time. Rushing is just not consistent to be a viable strat. It's correct to rush against most decks if you are granted the ability to. Pushing dmg or removing hand is how you win the game.
I do agree with your point at the end of the video overall, and a lot of people would be better served by trying to adjust their deck to the environment than just running it back every week and complaining, but it's hard not to feel locked in to your choice when a deck can easily end up costing a couple hundred usd to put together. Even switching up your generics is difficult when they shoot up in price the moment they seem even remotely playable. Complaining to the void online is a lot cheaper.
The other issue being how little options some decks have to "adjust", where deck space is tight or nations that don't have generic answers to certain things.
For me the issue with Levidras and anime or meta decks in general is more of the fact that they tend to have rarely any counterplay if it existed in the first place. Bushiroad's tendency to overdesign certain effects like Levi's RGs not having enough ways to not avoid a G3 push so powerful going 1st is 1 example. And it also doesnt help that we still have the issue of decks not getting equal amouts and quality of support which aggravates the issue (and defensive tools to stop Turn 3 kills). Edit: Forgot its going 1st G3 turn. But one errata which couldve fixed Levi is simply just hitting the Turn 3 soul in alt cost.
Love videos like this, hope you can do one for Eledglema too soon. The deck compress like crazy, and the number is just unguardable. Base on my math the deck can have a kill turn with 8 attacks, 7 with extra crits assuming drive check hits 1 crit, and ask for a total of 200~300k shield. As of Levi, I think that is a fair deck, at least not too much different in power level compared to Rezael.
Very insightful and helpful deck! I've been frustrated going against Blangdmire and Levidras decks in my locals, so having more info on the deck's key weaknesses really helps a lot in my strategy (sadly I only have Flamme-G as a main deck so far hahahaha....) Also, speaking of best boi Aelquilibra, I actually lucked out and got most of his pieces in one box, so I'm also super stoked on trying him out sometime~ ^w^)
what's more is that on the 7th January (next tuesday), we're getting 3 more levidras support cards, including a RRR, so depending on what the support does and if its any good, the deck might end up having more pieces to work with than RG circles, which in turn means that the deck could end up becoming much more flexible if you do end up missing 2 or more of the current important pieces
Great video DF! You made a lot of good points that I have been saying to people all week, learning the match up fixes 90% of people’s complaints about the deck. Also people complaining about squirrol’s power have somehow forgotten what Lianorn Vivache did to the meta for a while 😂
Way to go Kris!! The editing is amazing and I love your insight about Levidras because I am so used to OG and G Era(Premium) Vanguard that I know next to nothing about Standard!
It also helped that for a while he was significantly cheaper than most of the top decks with the only card above the 10 dollar range being the optional dual nation.
Not for english, sadly. Knowing that Empireo existed before even base levidras released in english inflated the price of it and anotogaster a lot more than they would have been worth usually like it was in japan. Levidras didn’t get a big chance to be cheap in english due to the anime
Despite the hatred of it online, I do really love Levidras mechanically and aesthetically, so I’m sad it never got a chance to be a cheap deck in english because we knew about Empireo being really strong before base Levidras even released
And yep he gets support in dzbt07 in an rrr as well! I assume a flat card upgrade from his existing one (e.g. huuli with sth like +20k damage) but im hapoy to be proven wrong. We'll see next tuesday i guess
nice vid this is pretty helpfull just for understanding why levidras is good ect do agree with the last part of the vid of there always be a best deck in the format and people will just complain about it will always happen. the aquelibra pick was pretty nice did played the deck aswell during locals was ironicly more just me wanted to play something else and i like the deck awell but never thought about it that it has a good match up vs levidras but now thinking on it after seeing this vid can see why it does be a good pick for the match up so me keeping that one in mind.
I love this video format! I am new to Vanguard and I currently play Gandeeva, with plans to update it with Gandeeva Masques. What do you think about the Gandeeva Masques versus Levidras matchup? I did some testing online, and I thought Gandeeva Masques does better starting second since you can persona ride with Masques on your third turn. But I was looking to get an outside, experienced opinion too
As i said once before, levidras is a heavily overrated deck. It's definitely very good, I've played the deck myself, but DF hits the nail on the head in this video. Levidras is ONLY good turn 3 onwards. I like to compare it to the Branded deck from yugioh. They're both similar in the sense that they have a good grind game and can out resource opponents while producing pretty decent boards, but Levidras has no early game whatsoever in a "pure" build. The equivalent for branded "early game" would probably be playing through hand traps on their choke points, because if stopped at their choke points it's devastating to come back from it without the correct cards. Another similarity both have is as the game drags on, they both run out of resources. Not quickly, but very steadily if each turn is a carbon copy of the last. At least that's my take on the deck. But as of now I don't think there's a deck that can drag games on until levidras loses all it's gas.
I dont think so.. i mean there are just too many resources that clash with the existing engines. Like you want to preserve SB for squarrol or charmnet, you want to conserve EB for anotogaster (or 2 if its available and you have a free rc). Tried to fit in meidis but all in all the other cards are too precious for consistency in comparison to meidis. I dont have anything to say abt habitat. It's a good substitute if you are missing something like aspronia for example
I went to my locals for the first time in like 3 years. I bright messiah(with most of the new support and triggers). My first game was against levidras. I died on grade 2 going second
I honestly love vermillion regardless of the low win rate. Although i've been practicing a lot against meta and see the package im using banishing cards in drop and on board makes stoichea decks neutered because of the match up. Going second does hurt, but it still does the same game plan as of going first. I'll keep practicing, and see more ways to keep being a anti meta deck.
great video, but i feel like people are overlooking one reason why levidras seems to be gaining popularity lately and thats its price. compared to varga, odium and rezael, levidras is much cheaper even when you factor in the sapphiras(and the deck can do fine without those, which significantly lowers the price of the deck even more). people who want to compete but are on a budget would naturally gravitate towards the cheapest option that gives the best results, and levidras just happens to fit that role at the moment.
the og levidras actually suffered so much against vyrgilia due to how explosive vyrgilia is and how much it swings and against imperio its a 50 50 match up due to how fast vyrgilia is as a deck blows up the hand imperio create aswell as the markers not being that much of an issue
I used eva against levidras once let's just say she somehow found an AK 47 and broke all the bug's knees while levidras was still setting up. Next game the bug wanted blood but i healed twice, one from OT so she broke his knees, again
I don't think so. The deck is still fairly clunky if you don't know what you're doing. It's easy to screw up lines of play. While a fully dressed Stra can help harass foxil and keep your opponent's numbers low, it doesn't do anything for the markers on your side depressing your generally low numbers and your relatively lower ability to farm hand. Triple drive isn't really enough. You want to make a Mirrors often as well. Rushing with Jheva can seem like a no brainer at first, but your prayer dragons with on place effects are generally looking for Jheva on board. Also using Aparajea to build a board so early rips a target out of your deck for your ride line when you ride to Jheva. All in all, you need to practice with the deck a ton to even get close.
I still don't get why the kings don't work in the same way as evil varga. Not only it would've evited the current turn 3 shenanigans with Levidras, but would also mean that you don't need to run multiple 0 shields that are used for cost and nothing else.
What scares me is what will happened next, because we know well power creep will happens.. Even Levidras Empireo topped while Shiranui and Shojo was still its Strongest.
not entirely true.. A lot people will still bought a product because they are interesting, pretty art and etc not because they are OP, especially waifus. Im not against power creep in fact it should happen. What i was saying is what kind of new gameplay that will overcome this in the future.
@@fenrael3021 I’ve said this before, and I don’t THINK they would do that. But I wouldn’t be surprised if it happened. Cuz at the same time, if they DID make a deck that destroys set orders, then all Brandt Gate decks would just be trashed cuz that’s their whole game plan. Especially decks like Prison and Impauldio, since Prison only runs one copy of the Prison anyway, and Impauldio has no other way of generating his token set order besides the ride line.
12:56 I find that the big question is whether it feels unbeatable or not during playtesting. Decks right now don’t feel unbeatable. Honestly Shojodoji didn’t feel unbeatable. Full power Luard and Shiranui did. Figure that out through playtesting though. It’s important to actually *play* in a meta before starting to doom about it.
I like to think Levidras is like Shedinja from Pokémon. If you have complete infortmation about your matchup (ala, know the deck, what cards to watch out for, etc), Levidras is absolutely busted. But with incomplete information, Levidras falls apart really quickly.
Since Levidras is so hard to kill I loving call him the roach dragon. Real talk though Levidras is weak to an early game rush combined with high power attacks ,around 43k+, turn 3 to late game. Being hyper aggressive against Levidras early is rewarded because you make it harder for them to stabilize their hand after turn 2.
Just stopped by and I peaked at the market to see if my Zoa themed boy was playable only to have 3 boss monsters in the 10+$ zone not including RR's just like nah I'ma just stay in Zorga.
So basically the worst part of this deck is that if it highrolls its pieces, it's V Gurguit. Stupid high numbers on a grade 2 opponent and multi swing to boot.
Can I just say when I faced both levidras and rezael in cfa I was amazed, not mad but was like wow this thing can go to 60 to 70k and is insane and it was against overlord yes I play overlord so I will be back with overlord power 😂 bahr adds G1s for cb1. I can't wait for libra new form soon trust the process.
In my opinion if u need a going second deck, u can play orfist masques. Want to be second to be able to perona ride, not bad numbers on turn 3, and can semi push on turn 2
It's as if people have forgotten about how the meta this past year shifted heavily towards decks with early game aggression and that maybe if people do the thing they've been doing this past year, they would win games against the deck that can't handle early game aggression! Crazy stuff, I know. Honestly, I can't help but feel like a big part of the frustration towards Levidras stems from players not liking the fact that Levidras can hard punish decks that let it live past turn 2 in a very control-esque playstyle, whereas rushes that didn't establish a winning position by turn 3 back then got away with it due to the lack of decks that could actually "return the favor", so to speak.
Ah yes, all of this statement is cancellable with a simple "who's topped the most this past year?". It sure as hell ain't those "early aggression" decks. Odium, rezael, and levidras are all winning for a reason. What, you think they don't go through those decks during the entire tournament? You'd have to be delusional to think so. At the end of the day, a lot plays on luck. Even those early aggression decks you so mention gets shut down the moment they get a single trigger
@@Franklii21 They're all winning BECAUSE they have early-game aggression, the Dual-nation cards that cost 30-50 a piece. Also it's because we want the opponent to hit those triggers thats why we play the early aggression game. Get the OT out the game early. Make your opponent heal when they don't need it. Thin their deck out of criticals. That's the whole damn point in the first place.
Not only popping markers but it also breaks the entire card cause it nullifies the first ability which lets it gain power and the og levidras divine skill as well as its last skill to destroy a marker
This is such a well edited and insightful video with a healthy amount of humour sprinkled in…thank you so much for taking the extra time to make such videos! Vanguard honestly needs more videos like this…

Decks right now don’t feel unbeatable. Honestly Shojodoji didn’t feel unbeatable. Full power Luard and Shiranui did.
Figure that out through playtesting though. It’s important to actually *play* in a meta before starting to doom about it.
Wait- no outro? 😭
Stupid high numbers on a grade 2 opponent and multi swing to boot.
any deck high roll on trigger has big numbers. normal circumstances its 41k column which is hardly rare nowadays
The eledglema one was crazy
Can I just say when I faced both levidras and rezael in cfa I was amazed, not mad but was like wow this thing can go to 60 to 70k and is insane and it was against overlord yes I play overlord so I will be back with overlord power 😂 bahr adds G1s for cb1. I can't wait for libra new form soon trust the process.
Well it is the destined king after all. We expect no less
That 1 guy who plays Jheva
In my opinion if u need a going second deck, u can play orfist masques. Want to be second to be able to perona ride, not bad numbers on turn 3, and can semi push on turn 2
4:36 heck I use antogust and other top deck search card to Trick my opponent thinking it a trigger.
What I hate is the insane price of cards
Levi: Grandmother the plebs are mad I'm doing well
Gredora: Lmao, let em die mad
Amazing video
12:20 - so basically do what the rest of us ygo players do each format. Got it :P
#FACEGANG LOCK IN
Happy 2025!
Levidrass Is the best!❤
I just find him being able to not just negate but plus off any attack less than 23k annoying
The current meta is horrendous
Not me tho y'all stay safe out there (good vid btw)
Gift Markers isnt well love and thus one is basically Gifts Markers
#FACEGANG levidras changed my life I love only attacking with 1 rearguard each turn
Ok Kris but does your editor want day editussy ate tho. Love the editing and hope they can get some freedom from the dungeons after this.
Hello this is me I am the editor
@@DifferentFight Great! Offer still stands.
SSG JYSL Levidras SENPAIIIIIIII!!!!!!!!!
Nice video but man Standard is starting to creep worse than points in G format.
Its not really a creep, its more of how the meta favours turn 3 decks now.
Decks dat require opp to be at g3 will suck now
Wouldn’t Blangmire shut down this deck completely
For a turn yes since it’s a vanguard skill that pops markers.
Not only popping markers but it also breaks the entire card cause it nullifies the first ability which lets it gain power and the og levidras divine skill as well as its last skill to destroy a marker
PEAK CONTENT
And then there is me who does not play the game and just built a siana deck with the lsc siana
My GOAT!
Aelquilibra: -10k? That's cute~
