Bill, I think she’s been incredibly patient with me. I’m three years past due and in the middle of a separate project I created afterwards. I’m enjoying the reel project but I have to learn to balance my efforts. I am looking forward to getting back to the Jeep as well.
Lol yeah, I have 2 of those exact, Symetre 4000 reels and if I ever got them THAT far apart, I'm pretty sure they'd never work again... 😂 Great video, Nice job!
Are you taking the DAM Q fishing too? This Shimano is much Ike my Sedona and Sonora Shimano 4000 size reels. The AR override has a nasty spring n my Rees that must be taken loose to remove the AR clutch. Also the oscillation is not quite so complicated (thank goodness). Some engineer was being a little too creative when designing this reel. I like it though as it seems quite a solid design. I did not have to mess with the bail s and rotors on my reels which were all but new when I got them. You did a great job on the rotor and bail assembly. Both my Sonora and Sedona also had felt washers. I would have lightly brushed the felt very gently after the WD40 but that’s just me. Good luck with that fly rod. This was a very good video Rick. - Chris. PS. I’ll be having another kidney surgery as soon as it can be scheduled. (I manually flip my bails if I can. Also, very important - if Momma ain’t happy, no one is happy!)
Yes I’m taking the DAM Automatic fishing on Thursday. I’m looking forward to seeing how it performs. I’m also taking my Johnson Sabra 130B as well. It’s also supposed to be an automatic reel so I’m looking to try them both to see how they compare. This Shimano was pretty robustly made. I won’t be trying it this week since it’s going back to Ken. If someone is interested I’m sure it will show up on EBay. So to hear that you need surgery again. I certainly pray this will be the last.
@@youngmartinsreels5314 I cenrtainly do too but it is unlikely since I have 17 stones in both kidneys if he can go in my kidneys and get as many as possible it would be great but afterward I;d have stents on both sides and unfortunately I know how terrible that feels. I hope you hook some good ones on your automatic reels. Of course I;m pulling for the DQ auto 268. Thank you for doing that excellent video on the 268. That reel could not be in better hands. Have you ever seen any of the Shakespeare blue 2400 series reels? They all have 2 bb and were made by Ohmori. I have the entire series of all 4 reels. They are extraordinary and the finest Shakespeares of the 1970s. I was given another of the largest of the series - a 2450. It’s another very dirty reels but like that Ryobi I just did I like resurrecting these hard cases just like someone else I know.. I’ll let you know when they schedule the surgery, - Chris
It's a Symetre, I used to have the 1000 version, extremely smooth reel. About $80 new when I bought it in like 2002. Somewhat challenging to work on, as you found out. I'd be interested to know if you notice any difference in performance with Cal's versus Penn grease. I do agree that it makes it easier to see what you're doing.
Way to go Barney. The S was missing on one side of the reel. It’s funny but I originally had it correct and then later saw the other side of the reel that was missing the S and changed it. Thanks to you I have corrected it. So far I see no difference in performance between the two reel greases.
And adjustable wrench fits all the nuts on the rotors as fare as the threads go you can strip them with any wrench if your not careful much easier if your using and adjustable to work on them friend you do not need so many wrenches 🤣🤣😂🤣
Wilbert, back when I was a heating and air conditioning technician, the adjustable wrench was my go to tool. But then forty years as aircraft mechanic/technician taught me to never use an adjustable wrench. In most places I worked, they weren’t even allowed to be in the tool box. Old habits are very hard to break.
Thank you! I just followed along and broke mine down and cleaned it with you!! Working brand new again!
I happy that I could provide you some useful information.
thanks for educating us on all types of reels. I really enjoy your videos. Happy wife, happy life. Good luck with the jeep.

Toe tags for the dead ones ?
Rick, they all get toe tags. It was getting too difficult to remember who I got them from.
@@youngmartinsreels5314 this turned out to be a a fishing reel that was brought back from the dead. Great job !
