Hi. Ian Woods (who wrote this and recorded it with Charley Yarwood) was my father. He’d have been incredibly proud of your fabulous version. Thank you.
Thank you so much ! YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHERE THAT "ONE PULL" , PULLED ME UP , ONCE MORE , ONE MORE TRY, AWAY FROM VERY DUMB AND NOT REVERSIBLE DESICIONS. I hope you and your father are very proud of that influence.
I grew up being a choir girl. I'm a sucker for perfectly done harmonies, especially created by (deep) male voices. You have no idea how much I absolutely love this :)
The first time I heard this song was fairly recently and a day or two after my grandfather died. What makes is appropriate is that he was in the Navy during the Korean War. While he was discharged after the armistice, he always remained a sailor at heart. Roughly three years ago, my grandmother passed away before him. They had been together for over 60 years, so her loss was very hard on him. When I hear this, I can't help but picture him as he was when they first got married, in his dress whites, meeting her in the beyond. I can't hear this song without tearing up. Thanks for the good tune, boys.
This also makes me think of my grandfather him and his dress whites he served in the Korean war he used to talk about it so much now he's gone it is only been 4 years for me but it feels like it eternity but you're right this song makes me always think of him and his wife and his son in heaven
This is actually exactly wyat I wanted. The warmth, sentiment, and charm are all there. It transports the soul, as it should, yet the sentiment is still understood today.
This arrangement of One More Pull is greater than most music you will hear today. There's nothing quite like good acapella. 8 talented men providing us incredible music. Well done.
These homecoming songs always bring me back to deployment homecomings and seeing my wife and daughters for the first time in almost a year. This song nails every part of it. As I sit in my couch with those days behind me I remember those who won’t come home alive to hold and be held.
Retired sailor here. Met my love @ 19 and married her. Never heard this song befire, but always felt it's message. We've been martied for 28 years. The only women that ever pulled me from her arms were my ship and the sea. I did 9 combat deployments and numerous detachments over 25 years and yet still she was there at the pier after everyone. Even after 8 years retired those mistresses still call to me, but they'll never pull me from her arms again! I absolutely love this song and it brings me to tears every time I play it!!!
I'm in the navy, hearing this song reminded me of all the friends I've made throughout bootcamp and A-school. This brought tears to me from the memories.
This sparks joy. Literally, when your voices all ring out together, it's impossible not to be overcome with the joy of the sound of it. And BobbyBass' depth and purity reach deep down in my soul and resonate pure happiness. I haven't heard bass like that in decades. Well done, all of you!!
These harmonies have haunted me every day since I discovered this song. I know it's not really a shanty, nor is it even that old (I believe the original is from the 1980s?), but there's something so immersive about the way it just gently rolls through each verse. Y'all really struck gold here with this one. I would listen to an entire album that's just this style of track.
@@owenbarrett2517 The original I was referring to is a song of the same name from the 1980s that I just found from a cursory google search. I'm not super familiar with church music though, so you may be right!
No matter if the Shanty Craze has passed- it will always live on! Such a haunting song that can either be a song of hope or despair- all we are thinking is just getting there! Repeated listening since I’ve started playing it today!
These lyrics remind me of my time sailing on the Mackenzie River. Me and the boys would work 6 months straight on an aids to navigation vessel. As the season came to a close and things began to freeze, we would refer to this time as “Last Pull”. It was hard work picking the buoys and getting them high up on the banks where they wouldn’t be taken out by high water or ice. We would all look forward to letting loose and seeing our old ladies if they had stuck it out with us.
God this takes me back to those days where my father was in Acapella the group, singing with brethren rejoicing the songs of history. This honestly brought me to tears as my fondest memories are when my dad let me sit in the seats and pews they practiced in. Thank each and everyone of you and yourselves for incorporating yourselves into history.
This makes me cry, knowing we men are too often cast as unthinking, unfeeling, unloving. Sadly, we learn to believe it all until we have an epiphany and hear music like this. It takes us back to the source of our hearts and soul.
Listened to it so many times already but it still makes me cry everytime. It perfectly captures the feeling of melancholy when you sail into the docks and leave the ship for the last time.
There are not enough praises to heap high enough upon these men. What a gift they have that they have shared with the world. Tis is a pity there are not more. True gold, true treasure. Cherish it
I've been listening to the single on repeat for the last three days and it's been making me weirdly emotional. It's so lovely to put faces to voices and this is a WONDERFUL collaboration!
Its been so long since I've heard a song that paints such a clear picture, between the lyrics and that welling harmony that then drops in that final verse. I'm just imaging a young sailor returning from his first voyage, eager to see the girl who promised she would wait for him. And all his shipmates are cheering him on wishing him well, only for him to arrive and find that she has moved on. He returns brokenhearted and dejected only to find his shipmates are already waiting for him with a drink So much hope and pain and solace smashed in to 4 minutes, I feel like I just went through the five stages of grief. Was not prepared.
As a teenager that heads down to Cornwall in the quaint Hamlet of Port Gaverne just next to Port Isaac. I travel into Port Isaac every Friday I can and listen to the Fisherman’s Friend’s. These guys are truly the next big shanty band
The last time I was so mesmerized by a song or group was watching the first Celtic Woman concert on PBS. In the last month I have discovered Malinda which led me to the Wellermen which led me here. I am in awe of the pure talent on display in these songs, and only wish that more people could hear and enjoy them as I have. As they say, this was most adequate, boys.
First heard this two months ago on a harbor cruise in Boston. Just thought of it again but couldn't remember the song's name. Hauntingly beautiful and I can't get enough of it.
This is one of those songs that is both sad and beautiful, and normally i would say i had dust in my eyes, but nope, the song made me cry, not an easy thing for a guy to say, but this song came make grown adults cry, its that good.
What an awesome collection of humans! It's fitting that some of the folks who lead me to discovering The Longest Johns are now doing a collaboration with them. Thanks to all of you for bringing the world your joy and talent!
Idk why but this song put me in some serious feelings, had me thinking about parts of my past from when I was still active duty….good job gentleman, this old vet salutes you all
I’m in a group of 6 fine singers. God willing, we will learn this song and do it justice that it deserves. Thank you for this superb production of what will be a classic forever.
What a fantastic job !! I'm a huge fan of "The longest John" and really really hope "the Wellermen" will continue to work together long time after the TikTok buzz... You will be the two best sea shantys singers groups... (With the longest John 1st... They're kings...)
Oof... Some serious feels here. Brought me back to the end of my own deployments from the Navy. Well done, right in the heart, smashed that like button and added it to my spotify.

Well done your Dad. A beautiful legacy.
I’m a simple man, I see this premiere reminder, I click like, then I wait.
That's how you do it.
there's no other way
Don't forget to set the bell too
YOUR MAN IS HERE, I need to talk to you.
As we all do when Colm calls!
What's better than a shanty-band? Two of em! Multi-Adequate.
Here we are!!!!!!
yes Bobby!
I don't cry. Period. But sweet jesus this song got me damn close to it.
Boy, you should listen to Bones in the Ocean. It is powerful. Gets me every time.

Same mann. I miss those days
saaaammeeeeee!
I sang in the symphony choir Capetown and left because they are practicing and performing with masks. Alas. Our basses were the weakest voice part.
Me too Debbie . (I sing Metzo. Messo. ) love chorist.. like they..
I'm an idiot man with no clue about what it means to be a choir. But I know music, and this is absolutely phenomenal. I'm right there with you

Well said, the talent these lads have is amazing. They have such a full rich sound. Their voices complement each other so well
You are acting like its a really old song but its from the 1980s
Especially since not any of them in the same room, building or area!! I can listen to this all day

Men of Erin next??? Y'all have the perfect vocal range for it :)
Where is your 5th guy? I remember wellerman are fifth voices.
@The Wellermen will/could you, perhaps, release a written arrangement for this? I would love to learn it with some of my friends!
Man another band to listen to lol . I love it :)

What’s the original? Or songs that sound very similar, I can’t think of it but I feel like there’s a very similar church song

I totally feel ya on this my guy, this type of singing just hits different. I love these deeper, more gentle melodies.
Your music touches heart strings in me that I didn't even know existed.

Thank you!!
Bobby is amazing! I turn up my sub woof and listen to him all the time
I would love to see a video with all of you singing around a old sea side tavern or something.
I played this for my infant grandson and your voices are magic. You soothed him from cranky, over tired to mellow, calm baby. I love your voices.
Gorgeous work -- well done, boys ⚓

The most beautiful song I've ever heard that includes the lyrics "bum-fluff".

Ahh, those harmonies were beautiful.
This made me cry. There’s something in me that remembers a time like this. I miss it. I miss her.. from back then.. hard to explain…
I just happened upon the song by chance. I haven’t cried like this in a long time
