When I went to Japan this year's April I also flew in to Narita Airport but with Finair. Despite also wearing noise cancelling headphones which they provided on board I was not able to sleep. Though this is something I most times cannot. But like yourself, I arrived in the morning with a whole day ahead of me. This in itself is a good thing as you can arrange quite some to get to the destination that is booked or prepare for other things. Still, having not slept well before I went to the airport in the Netherlands, barely sleeping in the air plane from Helsinki to Narita and then having to stay awake for another day is quite hard :) So I can understand how you must have felt at the video's 5:34 time mark. Also indeed I had the same issue with being too early at the Ryokan and not being able to check in. In a day where all that would be on my mind is taking a good nap this is not the news I was hoping for. On the other hand, it is good to get sort of forced into the time zone one is at right away by not giving in on sleeping during the local day time. Looking forward to your upcoming video. As always I enjoy watching them.

Was the air france message pass available on your flight? I'm flying with them on monday and trying to work out if I'll be able to use instant messaging services during my flight!

In October I flew with Air France and they were quite good and enjoyed the food we got, only criticism was the soft drinks were served in 2l bottles and they kept going flat. Just a shame I got my Irn Bru taken of me in Paris (never take a scotsmans Irn Bru haha) and met another scottish guy on the flight because me and my friend were wearing kilts and he didn’t stop talking to us the whole flight and after pulling an all-nighter the night before it was not fun. But got interviewed for Japanese tv because we were wearing the kilts so kind of made it worth it :)
Wow that sounds like an interesting flight!! 😝 I always get the two seats at the back so we don’t have to sit with anyone who might be too talkative...!
Cakes with Faces the funny thing is, that’s what we done 😂. He stood in the plane isle for 3 hours and there was a free seat in front of us so the flight crew allowed him to move his cabin baggage. All while we tried spelling help in our food, but they didn’t notice 😢.
They were ok - food & films not the best (could have been by chance), but the staff were good, everything went smoothly and the tickets were a reasonble price, so I'd fly with them again. ANA are my favs so far!
Hi!!! Once you guys have a chance you should go to the Hemp café in Shibuya city... i'll try it but I hope to have your opinions about it (100% vegetarian they say ) I've been looking for an English version opinion but I can't find any (maybe is not so popular among turists)
Narita seems the most common and quickest air port when going to japan but from what I have read Haneda is a bit easier getting to and from tokyo. If you were just visiting tokyo for a week or two which airport would you recommend?
Haneda is much closer to the city & cheaper to get to, so do there’s a choice I’d always pick Haneda. However Narita isn’t that bad (1 hour on the train) so I’d pick whichever has the best fares.
I usually book when there’s a sale on. Join the airline’s email newsletter to get notifications. If you book when the sale’s first announced there’ll be the largest choice of dates. I usually book early - although I’m sure other people have got good prices with last minute flights. For this trip I booked in August for February.
For the Narita Express, you're better off getting the separate ticket because then you get a discount. I think you can use Suica for the base fare, but you still need to pay an express fee supplement or seat reservation fee - so it's better to get the separate ticket from the airport.
I have flown with maybe a bit over than 15 airlines (which some have bankrupt and no longer exist), and Air France is one of my favorites, and to me, the best european airline.
Lots of people go to the same places in Japan because they're the only places we really hear about, but there are so many other amazing things to see! I'd love to explore more of Tohoku, and also go back to Hokkaido in the summer, to see the beautiful landscapes.
Exactly, whenever I travel abroad, I make a rule to travel to destroy streotypes that I have about the country, not travelling to enhance it It was great that you had good time in Hokkaido and Tohoku. I recommend you to visit some national parks in the east part of Hokkaido. Nebuta Festival, Omagari fireworksfestival! Some cities along the coast line of Sea of Japan, like Sakata, Tsuruoka or Murakami are also good. You cannot miss Ginzan Onsen in Yamagata As for Kanto If you go to Japan in the next summer, Kamakura to Enoshima in the summer especialg when twilight time, is amazing as if it were in a dream.
@@ForUploadin Thanks for the recommendations! I've seen pics of Ginzan Onsen in the snow, it looks so picturesque. I've been to Kamakura and Enoshima on a day trip. The bamboo garden at Hokokuji Temple in Kamakura is my one of my all-time Japan highlights!
I hope that you will enjoy the next trip too. Plus, in Japan, I am sure that you already know that all thorough year, much competitions for Characters for wide varieties of organizations are held and they are open to non Japanese. The reward is not so much in the meaning of money but you can start a career of character designing with the achievement.
I might be going to Japan next year and this might be a weird question but what kind of electric outlets do they have? I want to be able to charge my phone and stuff but not all countries have the same kind of outlet so I just wanna know if I need to buy one of those universal outlet thingies...
Not a weird question at all :-) The plugs have 2 flat pins, they look the same as plugs in the USA. I have a general worldwide plug adapter and it has an attachment that works.
@@cakeswithfaces That's not too bad! :) Last year I flew with Polish airlines Lot from London-Warsaw-Japan and they allow 2 big check in luggage per person. :) A bit too much for me but maybe this info gonna be useful for someone.
Lufthansa and ANA allow 2 suitcases each, but I've never needed them (it'd be difficult to carry, especially if you're going to your hotel on the metro). Good back-up though, in case you buy a lot! (I usually take an empty bag case inside my suitcase - but again, never used it!)
We just arrived in Japan so I feel the pain you felt when there was still NINE hours left! I was wondering where you got your cute suica card holder, I’m looking everywhere for one!
Mine was from the Tamagotchi shop, which is sadly now closed down! (RIP!) You can find them in character merch shops - like in Character Street, Kiddyland, Sanrio stores, Tokyo Disney and the Disney store, maybe also Don Quijote (I don't think there's anything they don't sell there!) Enjoy your trip!! :-)
Haneda is a lot closer to the city than Narita so that’s good! No complaints about Air France - good staff & everything went smoothly. The food & films were maybe not the best but that could just be by chance & what was out at the time (I had to sleep on the flight anyway!). I’d certainly fly with them again!
Hi, I was jus wondering did u have any vaccinations before u went to japan? I’m going in July and I don’t know if i should get the Japanese encephalitis vaccination due to being expensive
I’ve done a few room tours before but I didn’t this time as the room wasn’t anything special or particularly interesting! This time I stayed at the Hibiya City Hotel in Shimbashi. It was ok but I prefer staying in Shinjuku.
@@cakeswithfaces I have seen your Gracery hotel room tour which was amazing. I wanted to book one but it is already sold out! I'm coming to Japan in end of march which most likely will be a hanami season so probably that's why. I booked Apa kabukicho hotel in shinjuku however same Apa hotel in Asakusa is £300 less so I will have tough decision. 😂
Kabukicho’s a great place to stay - it’s so busy & full of life whereas Asakusa’s more laidback & traditional. A lot of hotels can only be booked 6 months in advance so that might be why some aren’t showing to book yet; if you check back nearer the time it might start showing rooms. But you’re right to book early for busy hanami season!

@@Pebble3007 Ooh I'll have to give that a try, I loved Frankenstein (it was one of my course books at uni!) Yes - Three Billboards, so good!
@@cakeswithfaces Did you listen to Radio 4's In Our Time about Frankenstein?
@@Pebble3007 No, that sounds interesting though!
I flew with KLM on the 16th to Narita via Schiphol, good flight, food was nice enough, could of gone with air France but didn't really wanna spend any time in France
Thanks for sharing - I've not flown with KLM but I'd give them a try if they have good fares!
wonderful video as always :)
Thank you! Lots of exciting ones coming up! :-)
I love your videos I'm watching in Japan 🇯🇵❤️
Thanks! Are you on holiday or do you live there?
@@cakeswithfaces second day of my second trip to Japan just the best place isn't it
@@satellite1882 I'll definitely always want to go back! Have a Fanta Grape for me!
Good vid Amy.
Thank yous! ✨
Marvellous lesson. You are amazing. Love you. A
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
I've planned to go to the digital light shows too ^^
You'll love it! I went to the permanent TeamLabs Borderless, and there's also a temporary one called TeamLabs Planets, where you walk through water, so creative!
Could I please request a step by step in for the airport. Thanks from UK.
Funny you should say that, there is something like that coming up!! :-)
@@cakeswithfaces Good thanks, make it as simple as possible I'm a complete novice lol
@@Drdoombrain Haha, it's not as difficult as you might think - all the signs are in English :-)
Lovely hair colour! Makes a nice change. Looking forward to your new series!
Thanks! Blue for a winter trip! :-)
Was the air france message pass available on your flight? I'm flying with them on monday and trying to work out if I'll be able to use instant messaging services during my flight!
Not sure, I didn't use it! It says they offer that free here: corporate.airfrance.com/en/news/air-france-launches-its-new-flight-wi-fi-offer
It's through your phone and I always leave mine off during the flight. Looks like you should be able to though. Have a great trip!
Cakes with Faces thank you! And thank you for replying! :)
Your new series looks great, and you went to Team Lab Borderless!!
It was SO GOOD! Can't wait to edit that video! :-)
It was the highlight of our last trip, we are going back this year and we want to try the other one, Planets too
Planets looks so interesting with the water! So creative - and fun as well.
@@muzzirenti Oh my goodness! 😂😂😂 I feel for you, really I do!! 😂
Nice, hope you enjoy your trip. How was Air France? I'm heading back to Tokyo next month this time with KLM. Looking forward to the upcoming videos.
They were ok - food & films not the best (could have been by chance), but the staff were good, everything went smoothly and the tickets were a reasonble price, so I'd fly with them again. ANA are my favs so far!
@Cakes With Faces i always wondered what it’s like to travel to japan by plane. It must have seemed exiting for you! 🤔😀
Always exciting, I can't wait to be back! :-) Actually any plane trips are exciting!
@@cakeswithfaces in my opinion, it can be really fun to travel by plane to a new place!
😎😁
100% agree with that!
Hi!!! Once you guys have a chance you should go to the Hemp café in Shibuya city... i'll try it but I hope to have your opinions about it (100% vegetarian they say ) I've been looking for an English version opinion but I can't find any (maybe is not so popular among turists)
Thanks for the recommendation! Looks like there are a few reviews on Happy Cow for it.
@@cakeswithfaces thanks..I'll check it out!
Hi.
I’m Japanese and living in Birmingham 😊
I miss Japan so much..
Ah interesting! I live not too far from Birmingham :-) I hope you can visit Japan sometimes!
I really miss flying 😩
Me too!! Can't wait till it's safe to travel again! :-)
Great video, can't wait for this new series! How far in advance would you say you need to book your flights for the best prices?
I usually book when there’s a sale on. Join the airline’s email newsletter to get notifications. If you book when the sale’s first announced there’ll be the largest choice of dates. I usually book early - although I’m sure other people have got good prices with last minute flights. For this trip I booked in August for February.
cool deal so fun!
Hope you enjoy the new series of vids!
The food reminded me of Romanian Airways back in the 80s!!!!!!
Really? 😝 Is that a good thing??
hey! u seem to be awesome at replying to messages. I was wondering, can i use a suica card on the narita to Tokyo shuttle?
For the Narita Express, you're better off getting the separate ticket because then you get a discount. I think you can use Suica for the base fare, but you still need to pay an express fee supplement or seat reservation fee - so it's better to get the separate ticket from the airport.
I have flown with maybe a bit over than 15 airlines (which some have bankrupt and no longer exist), and Air France is one of my favorites, and to me, the best european airline.
Good to know! :-) My fav so far is ANA. I was looking forward to trying JAL as I've heard good things but that was my cancelled trip last year.
I like the northern half of Japan, where regrettably few foreign tourists visit
Lots of people go to the same places in Japan because they're the only places we really hear about, but there are so many other amazing things to see! I'd love to explore more of Tohoku, and also go back to Hokkaido in the summer, to see the beautiful landscapes.
Exactly, whenever I travel abroad, I make a rule to travel to destroy streotypes that I have about the country, not travelling to enhance it
It was great that you had good time in Hokkaido and Tohoku.
I recommend you to visit some national parks in the east part of Hokkaido.
Nebuta Festival, Omagari fireworksfestival!
Some cities along the coast line of Sea of Japan, like Sakata, Tsuruoka or Murakami are also good.
You cannot miss Ginzan Onsen in Yamagata
As for Kanto
If you go to Japan in the next summer, Kamakura to Enoshima in the summer especialg when twilight time, is amazing as if it were in a dream.
@@ForUploadin Thank you! Where can I find out about these competitions? :-)
When were these videos taken? How long was your trip?
It was in February for the Sapporo Snow Festival. I went for just under 2 weeks.
Take an extension lead with four plugs, so you only need one adaptor.
Good tip, thank you! :-)
@@cakeswithfaces thanks! I live in Sweden so we have the rounded pegs on our adapters so I might have to look into what I need for my trip
@@anima6583 Yes you need the two flat pegs. Any universal worldwide adapter with multiple attachments should include what you need.
This is super helpful as I'm flying with Air France to Narita next month! :) How much luggage you took per person?
Good choice! :-) They allow 1 suitcase per person, and I took a mini suitcase as hand luggage.
Did you fly back to UK after that if yes was it with KLM?
I flew back with Air France. I've not flown with KLM yet, but I've heard good things from other people on here in the comments!
Thanks for the Video I'm traveling to Haneda airport with air France for the world cup, how did you rate your flight compared to others?
Haneda is a lot closer to the city than Narita so that’s good! No complaints about Air France - good staff & everything went smoothly. The food & films were maybe not the best but that could just be by chance & what was out at the time (I had to sleep on the flight anyway!). I’d certainly fly with them again!
Hi, I was jus wondering did u have any vaccinations before u went to japan? I’m going in July and I don’t know if i should get the Japanese encephalitis vaccination due to being expensive
I’ve never had any. As far as I know, you only need them if you’re going deep into the countryside, working on a farm or working with bats!
@@cakeswithfaces thanks. u saved me splashing out £200. I'm only gonna go to tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto etc jus the main places
@@kenwong237 You'll be fine then! :-)
Cakes with Faces 👍
What hotel did u stay in Tokio? It is a waste that u didint do a room tour. :(
I’ve done a few room tours before but I didn’t this time as the room wasn’t anything special or particularly interesting!
Cakes with Faces Thank you so much for your help! I will keep checking them. Thanks. 😀😀😀😀
