Just ordered one along with a raspberry pi 4 battery pack and a 7" mini touch screen to make a "pipboy" (edit wifi dongle, too, to be completely wireless). Will it work?! WHO KNOWS! BUT, I will definitely be buying more, and your video REALLY helped me feel better about going with this little powerhouse. Such a great and thorough video, thank you. Definitely seems like the best rapberry pi alternative for my needs.
Just got mine for NAS use. The one difference I did was put OMV on a 16gb emmc module. To do so, I had to boot into ubuntu on the microsd card, and use the terminal to dd the OMV image onto the emmc. Somebody on amazon gave the instructions.
Are there any issues with power? Do you need to run the disk(s) from a powered hub? Sometimes with an SBC, you quickly overpower the supply. And does that make significant difference with operating temp? Great video.
Thanks for the helpful info man. I know this came out a year ago, but I hope you continue to make more of this type of informative content. Like & Subscribed.
Will there ever be an updated guide, the links with the image is gone, and they added whole library and a half of "Step by step" with no clarification on what board is for what OS :(
The download links aren't there anymore, and the guide that replaced them doesn't work. Armbian installs ok, but then when I install OMV the device stops working entirely, no SSH and it doesn't even come up in my DHCP config
Great video! I plan a similar thing, but since the Raspberry Pi 4 has two USB-3 Ports I'll probably use that one. My current concern: How can I backup the files? OpenMediaVault sadly doesn't supports any RAID configuration if the drives are plugged in via USB. How have you handled that? I really don't want to drop all my files and rely on a single drive...
Buy a suptronics x822 expansion board that supports 2 x 2.5inch hdd/ssd and you can connect the Renegade via USB 3.0 port. It will be an elegant solution. There are other boards as well. Thats what I am using.
Great video, thanks. I use my RPi3 with a USB disk for backing up my DLink NAS via rsynch. Would love to have USB3! But better still, I would like to see a NAS as you describe but with mirrored drives.
No, they won't ship it to the UK.But it's OK - I ordered it from AliExpress: www.aliexpress.com/snapshot/0.html?spm=a2g0s.9042647.6.2.28414c4dmLD0Da Not the same OEM but seems like the same chipset and features :) Hope so anyway !
What about the transfer rate? I spect to see this on a video about NAS. Could you please include that information or answer here. I´m searching for the "best" SBC to build a NAS and the transfer rate of the interfaces is the big issue. Thank you.
Thanks for the video. I have the same setup but my files transfer speed is only about 15 Mbps. Can you tell me what is your files transfer speed? I'm connected to my gb router port. Transferring via 5g wifi to and from my pc.
Your getting about half the USB 1.0 speed? I suspect your ports are set to legacy mode. Also check your cable and drive for 3.0 standards as well. Everything needs to match to get the best results.
@@achan7396 Given I don't know what machine you're using, it's generally a BIOS setting. The device you're using also has a specification. It needs to be 3.0+. The USB cable will also need to be 3.0+. It's usually blue or will have a special block on the end. Do a Google image search for a USB cable and you'll see what I mean.
You forgot to mention one of the biggest features. It's 64bit!!! Did you seriously try to run it without a heat sink? You're lucky it didn't burn up. Heat sink is a minimum!

Nice to see Anton having this channel. I know only space channel.
Awesome video ! Not the person i was expecting to see when looking up such things since i recognized you from the space/science related channel hehe.
Bro I’m from 2023 lol
Thank you, I finally acquired a Renegade SBC and it's working perfectly.

Hi Anton, I think you are going to save us a lot of money by sharing this info. Thank you!!! I hope to pay you back in any way possible.
Excellent review and walkthrough
Great video. Very informative
I didn’t realize you used to do a tech channel!
Oooooooooooooooooooooooo HOW HAVE I NEVER SEEN THISSSSSSS I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW YOU HAD A CHANEL FOR THIS
Can use use the board for any additional projects, eg. adding an LTE HAT?

At 8:50 you're plugging the internet cable from the renegade to the modem or computer?
Thanks
modem
can you please share the download link of the omv 4 as its not available online for renegade
Install latest Armbian then run armbian-config to install openmediavault (OMV).
@@chmoduk omv5 it doesn't seems to work in this sbc.
I'm still searching for the old image of omv4...
Do you still have that OMV4 image?
They deleted all .iso images from that website.
I have to spell it out since, I think it's just blocking my comment: O M V 4 R e n e g a d e i m g x z .

Amazing video, thanks. But, does that Program stops the HDD when not in use? Like Idle mode?
no ,there's an option to do it but by default it doesn't
Hey Anton, great video. Can you post the Amazon link for the Libre board please !
Think I found it !
www.amazon.com/Libre-Computer-ROC-RK3328-CC-Renegade-Ethernet/dp/B078RSK46T?th=1
?
Damn. It is not available in the UK and amazon.com won't ship to the UK. I might try to order it from China !
shop.t-firefly.com/goods.php?id=65
does this one work? amzn.to/2Kok22l
they shipped it to Korea from UK I think... I'm not 100% sure tho. It's LoveRPI company which I believe is UK based

How is it with kodi ?
RK3328 is actually the name of the ARM CPU on the board.

Cool!
Raspberry Pi 4 is already out and it has an USB 3.0 so a Raspberry can be used for this purpose now. (And it has 2x USB 3.0 ports!)
Anyone know if this has ECC Memory?
i just got the Odroid xu4 -$25 cheaper then Amazon by going to Walmart, and they are at Ameridroids website for $60!
You say they got way lower on their Indiegogo campaign and failed, but it says “210% of $10,000”

Thx, good vid., but 129 times you said "actually"' and 82 times "basically"... this is actually lot of actuallies!
Bro what don’t you do??
