The chief judge recused because he supervises the in-house court attorneys office representing Judge Merchan.
The other judge recused because she worked with the Manhattan DA on a Trump civil case in 2020.
Nice reminder that judges do recuse themselves where there's a real potential for conflict of interest, and it's not just a rigged biased system.

It’s amazing that trump thinks he needs the gag order lifted before he can, for instance, participate in the upcoming debate. Since when does answering questions about your intended policies require the ability to slag and threaten jurors and their families, or the daughter of the judge?
Well if he can get the gag order lifted, he can force legal opposition to have second thoughts of persuing him because it would be dangerous. Now this is clearly illegal and dishonest at all levels. But what makes this possible is that his fanbase think he is the victim. Even while he's on the attack and making attempts to remove barriers so he can continue attacking people in the courts.

Headlines like this make it seem like Trump's speech is being restricted much more than it is. He isn't allowed to talk smack about jury members or court staff. The fact that a judge's order is required to protect the safety of people from this guy says everything about his motivations.
