Well that explains it! Bought an 07 gl1800 with monarch 2 trike kit n rode it 375kms home today. It had the cb controls, but only 1 antena. I figured it was a licensing thing. (I think you need a special, (maybe ham operator?) Lic..) guess its the only option wasn't included. It did take me 3hrs, 200kms, 3 stops later just to figure out how to pull up n display the nav system tho.. 🤣 Thanks for this!
@@SCWMoto It is. I am jonesing for a Goldwing. I like having CB on my last three Harleys. So this is helpful since many of the Wings do not have the CB installed.
Thanks for sharing your video on this install. I’m thinking of adding the CB radio to my Goldwing, this helps out a lot. What kind of seat to you have on your Goldwing?
Hello, Sorry I just ran across you comment thanks for the comment. The seat is a Mustang, not too sure of model or style. It came with the Goldwing when I bought it. Very comfortable and well built.
As far as i know the Gl1800 is all built into the unit. It’s plug and play. The 1500 gold wings need the filter for their cb units. Thanks for the comment, ride safe
They didn't say anything about swrs in that. that would be the only thing I would be concerned about so you don't burn up the unit but other than that great installation.
Yes SWR is a concern in most cases. I had read somewhere that the final transistors on the unit are pretty robust, and the antenna's resonance lives pretty well in the 27 MHz band. The antenna used is the genuine Honda Antenna designed for that Radio/Bike. Yes you can fine tune it with an SWR meter at mid frequency for optimum range and efficiency, but it's not a deal breaker. I measured 3.3 watts output through a dummy load. Using my antenna analyzer, at worst case it had a 1.9 to 1 reading at 40.975 mhz with a downward curve to 26.975 mhz. I have tweaked it since. Works good for what it is that's for sure. Thanks for the comment.
How are you supposed to adjust this antenna and set for proper SWR? Have you done this? I would think it's pretty important so you don't burn the finals out of a $650 CB radio.
@@ssfd739 it is recommended practice to do so. I did check the swr later on. It wasn’t that far off where it may cause heating. Funny it wasn’t covered on the installation instructions so I’m thinking the finals may be robust enough. I had to fab a pigtail that converted standard car radio antenna plug to the cb pl259 to use with my swr meter. 75 ohm to 50 ohm Thats why i didn’t cover it as i didn’t have the necessary hardware at the time.
Hi no sorry, It's 11 meter AM in the US. 26.975 through 27.405. I found this link that talks about Australian solutions. www.goldwingowners.com/threads/australian-uff-cb-radio.10519/
Yes its an aftermarket product from kuryakayn its good for water bottles and has storage as well. Replaces the cubby cover. wingstuff.com/products/34340-kuryakyn-glove-box-cubby-for-gl1800-2nd-gen
Anybody know why the antenna wire has to be routed outside the trunk and then back into the trunk instead of just going from the antenna straight to the CB in the trunk
The existing harnesses enter from the seat side keeps all the wires together and neat. The antenna support bracket also has a deflector the forces the wire to go out that way. Also once the trap door is put back on there is not way to directly access the unit.
Hi, the kit was purchased through WingStuff. I don’t remember exactly the price. A bit pricey i remember. They still advertise it for the second gen 1800 so they would have an updated pricing. Thanks for the comment.
Thanks Rod, the seat is a Mustang brand. The seat came with the bike when i picked it up so i don't have much more info on it. I will say, it is fantastic very well made.
I love it. It came with the Wing when i bought it. I'm convinced it's was why i could do a 24 hour run to from Derry NH to Moline Illinois. Very high quality build.
thank you for this video it helped me ALOT tried following the instruction but they were had to read.
This video was extremely helpful in the installation of the CB antenna and radio on my 2016 Goldwing!
Im glad this video was helpful thanks for watching and ride safe. ✌️
You are fearless! Nice job!. I learn a lot from your videos. Thanks Bob.
I appreciate that Thanks 👍
Thanks that’s my winter project

Great video thank you. Does the 06 need sound filters or anything to prevent static? I heard something about them.
