HERE IS PART TWO WITH THE CONCEPT BEING BALLADS FROM THE 1950'S. QUEEN OF THE SENIOR PROM FROM 1957 NEVERTHELESS FROM 1950 SUDDENLY THERE'S A VALLEY FROM 1955
My parents loved the Mills Brothers. My mom is in a nursing home now and dad has recently passed. I call every night to let my mom hear her music, and I can picture the two of them dancing and singing in each other's arms so beautifully.....Thanks for putting this on TH-cam....
When we lost the talent of the Mills Bros we lost what music is all about! I know I will never see them replaced in my lifetime just so glad I shared part of the era with them
Having been born in 1936 I grew up listening to so many greats and certainly the Mills Brothers are and were among the very best. One had to be able to sing on key back in those days and boy could this group sing. Tnx for the post.
I am in complete agreement with you..the gentle simplicity of the melody and the lyrics just make you long for a simpler, gentler time..what a magical time that must have been!
Queen of the Senior Prom is a perfect showcase song for the incredible voices of these three guys....and i agree Norman Brown was a great accompanist. thanks for posting.
Love this first song..heard a snippet of it on the soundtrack of the horror movie 'Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night II'..and fell in love with it..thank you for posting this and the others..
QUEEN OF THE SENIOR PROM (1957): Little girl, all the world will be yours tonight My queen of the senior prom And someday you'll recall, being belle of the ball In your beautiful gown of white But the years disappear, fading out of sight And leave only memories. So if you have a chance, won't you save me a dance My queen of the senior prom My sweet co-ed, my curly head Your mother's pride and joy Here comes your date, don't let him wait. He sure is a lucky boy. Run along, run along, little girl of mine But sweetheart before you go Your dad has the right to a kiss goodnight My queen of the senior prom NEVERTHELESS (1950): Maybe I’m right, and maybe I’m wrong Maybe I’m weak and maybe I’m strong But nevertheless I’m in love with you Maybe I’ll win and maybe I’ll lose Maybe I’m in for crying the blues But nevertheless I’m in love with you Somehow I know at a glance The terrible chances I’m taking Fine at the start, then left with a heart that is breaking Maybe I’ll live a life of regret, And maybe I’ll give much more than I’ll get But nevertheless, I’m in love with you Somehow I know at a glance The terrible chances I’m taking Fine at the start, then left with a heart that is breaking Maybe I’ll live a life of regret, And maybe I’ll give much more than I’ll get But nevertheless, I’m in love with you But nevertheless, I’m in love with you SUDDENLY THERE'S A VALLEY (1955): When you've climbed the highest mountain When a cloud holds the sunshine in Suddenly there's a valley Where the Earth knows peace with men When a star hides the distant rainbow And you think you can't find a friend Suddenly there's a valley Where friendships never end Touched only by the season Swept clean by the waving grain Surveyed by every bluebird And kissed by the falling rain When you think there's no bright tomorrow And you feel you can't try again Suddenly there's a valley Where hope and love begin Suddenly there's a valley Where hope and love begin
How many groups of singers made so much money just to trying to copy the Mills. and yet The mills will keep the one the first place... I was born in Santiago Chile, I will tell my friends about the Mills!!!!
These gentlemen were the epitome of class and talent. Love the music of the 40’s and 50’s !

Norman Brown was brilliant.
The Best OF the Best
My Dad played The Mills Brothers over and over on the record table. My Dad had a big tape recorder he bought for himself at 15.
They're so good I can even take their calling the Prom the Prumm.
QUEEN OF THE SENIOR PROM (1957):
Little girl, all the world will be yours tonight
My queen of the senior prom
And someday you'll recall, being belle of the ball
In your beautiful gown of white
But the years disappear, fading out of sight
And leave only memories.
So if you have a chance, won't you save me a dance
My queen of the senior prom
My sweet co-ed, my curly head
Your mother's pride and joy
Here comes your date, don't let him wait.
He sure is a lucky boy.
Run along, run along, little girl of mine
But sweetheart before you go
Your dad has the right to a kiss goodnight
My queen of the senior prom
NEVERTHELESS (1950):
Maybe I’m right, and maybe I’m wrong
Maybe I’m weak and maybe I’m strong
But nevertheless I’m in love with you
Maybe I’ll win and maybe I’ll lose
Maybe I’m in for crying the blues
But nevertheless I’m in love with you
Somehow I know at a glance
The terrible chances I’m taking
Fine at the start, then left with a heart that is breaking
Maybe I’ll live a life of regret,
And maybe I’ll give much more than I’ll get
But nevertheless, I’m in love with you
Somehow I know at a glance
The terrible chances I’m taking
Fine at the start, then left with a heart that is breaking
Maybe I’ll live a life of regret,
And maybe I’ll give much more than I’ll get
But nevertheless, I’m in love with you
But nevertheless, I’m in love with you
SUDDENLY THERE'S A VALLEY (1955):
When you've climbed the highest mountain
When a cloud holds the sunshine in
Suddenly there's a valley
Where the Earth knows peace with men
When a star hides the distant rainbow
And you think you can't find a friend
Suddenly there's a valley
Where friendships never end
Touched only by the season
Swept clean by the waving grain
Surveyed by every bluebird
And kissed by the falling rain
When you think there's no bright tomorrow
And you feel you can't try again
Suddenly there's a valley
Where hope and love begin
Suddenly there's a valley
Where hope and love begin
Take your dance, Mary Lou...
No,it is Norman Brown of The Count Basie orchestra.
But originally it was their brother John Mills. But he died in 1935.
Norman Brown was their guitar player, not one of the singing Mills Brothers.
Prom Night II: Hello Mary Lou brought me here
No, that's Norman Brown
How many groups of singers made so much money just to trying to copy the Mills. and yet The mills will keep the one the first place... I was born in Santiago Chile, I will tell my friends about the Mills!!!!
Hello again.
