With the car at the tuner, it was definitely hard to record content for vids. But now that it's back in my garage, it will be a lot easier to get back into a release cadence. :-)

Ugh that’s a bugger. Using a factory ECU will be so nice once working but what a pain. Haha. Pretty neat how they manufacture it though, your 100% right! Great job. I can imagine the feeling of joy when the colours corresponded with the wiring diagram. Haha.

I'm so glad you mention this. Yes, my throttle does feel *lazy* and once I get the transmission operational, I plan to get the car formally tuned on the dyno, with one objective being to improve throttle response. :-)
Oh man, you need a wire tracer/toner to trace the wires through that harness without having to relook everything. We use them in aircraft all the time.
I did this with my mk4 supra , nobody sold a direct harness to my ecu without a bunch of jumper sub harness so I deloomed my current set up, documented and re made a exact replica without jumper harness and water tight fire proof sleeving . Started first try . Everybody told me I was crazy for attempting this but I was determined
Great work Dan. It is useful to have the "Tuner" looking over your shoulder. This is potentially a very fast car and I'd like to suggest that you build into the project some proof of concept time and perhaps have some inquisitive folks from your local Lamborghini garage checking it all over. The recent misdemeanours on the "AutopiaLA" channel are a lesson to us all! (The proud owner who took 17 years and 2 wives to complete his pride and joy did not safely complete his project...and it ended badly).

Hey Dan I really like this build, one of my favorite on youtube right now. To be fair this channel is really a hidden gem on here. Have not seen such crazy and custom build with under 5k subscribers. I think you would draw in a lot more people who are actually missing out on this build, if you change up your thumbnails a bit. I would simplify and leave out some of the text that take focus from the projekt. Take some pictures where you see the whole car, sometimes it's kinda hard to see what you're trying to show if you are not already following along the series. A good example would be your video about your MK2 Supra, really simple Thumbnail that is also one of your most viewed videos. I couldn't believe it when i first found your channel, and i actually watched all 12 episodes there was at the time in one sitting. i know it's not all about getting a million hits, i just think there is a lot of people missing out!
Great suggestions Chris! Yeah, I’ve experimented with some “car picture” thumbnails…I think I’ll try that again. Until my car is done, I’ll need to steal pics of someone else’s black Evo convertible. 😜 I think the other major part is I simply need to do more videos to drive volume for the TH-cam algorithm….that’s been hard lately. Lol.

A Thumbnail with focus on the actual project is more appealing than the text and stickers. Many people with an interest of cars probably don't know about the Ultima, since it's a kit car. So the name probably doesn't really mean anything to them, and someone who knows about them would easely know from the picture any way
I got nauseous when you opened the box with this wiring harness. I don’t know how you do it. Super impressive. I’d be nervous of all of the potential points of failure…like a wire coming loose from a connector. I know you’d incredibly meticulous, but are you concerned of this at all? Last 10 sec of the video were the best. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Brian--I'm not worried about a loose wire/connector since I made the entire wire harness in my chassis myself...I test all the circuits as I go and so far, I only had one issue where I mixed two terminals at the throttle pedal but quickly got that fixed up. Glad you stuck around to the end...I try to leave a 'treat' at the end for those who last through my horror. Lol.
As a software engineer, this seems like really fun to debug. Maybe I should get into mechatronics... Wouldn't it be easier to do trial and error with different voltages/resistance to see what the transmission control unit expects?

@@nottherealjk It actually wasn't too bad given the rear of the harness was burned up...I got a good deal. Even *if* I could get my hands on the Lambo factory wiring manual, it would have cost me $500 minimum...But I'm glad this particular reverse engineering process is behind me. 🙂

If that is an Stronic box you can virginise the tcu and it will work. Or just fit any dl800 dq500 tcu into original mechatronic. You could try crossflashing lambo and r8 sw to see if it talks to r8 shifter.
Did you expect this level of complexity when you started this project? This is where I would have to hand it back to Marc at huge expense to finish. Mine comes home this afternoon, hopefully. Painter lost $2500 worth of trim in a 2 car garage/shop.
Hi Dave! Yep, I knew what I was in for when I selected this V10 powertrain package...I knew it would require some electronics magic. I love doing this stuff myself and Marc has been a great help nudging me along he way...We're almost there!
@@DanDulac I would be screwed at about this point in your build. Got the BelAir in the Barn and Dave “Mad Painter” found all the lost parts in a Mustang sitting beside me car. LMAO. Started return parts just now.
Both the engine and transmission each have an immobilizer. We were able to bypass the engine immobilizer with ECU code for the OEM R8 ECUs. But different story for the transmission; we could not code out the immo, so we needed to swap the trans mechatronic to one with no immobilizer (which is a mechatronic from 2014/15 Huracan). Since we’re now using effectively a Huracan transmission, we need to back-rev the transmission ECU code to use the Huracan shift controls. It’s quite the rabbit hole. 🤣

I’m curious though if the engine and trans (and their respective control units) all came from the same chassis, why didn’t the immobilizes work as they did in the original r8? I would have thought you wouldn’t have even needed to defeat them - for all they know, they were still living in an R8 right?
@@SupercarSeany yes, the engine and trans came out of the same chassis. The problem is I don’t have the original key(s) or security/chassis electronics to properly bypass the immobilizer(s). Which is why I’m having to “hack” them.

Has me wondering, I know VCDS is very capable, but do you think dealer software could have disabled TCU immobilizer? Has to be a way….of course this is just semantics for your case since you’ve got a solution, but I’m just working through all the imaginary motor swaps in my future!

The Lambo factory wiring diagram is unobtainium (argh!)...so tracing the wiring the hard way was my path...I'm glad it's behind me!!

Actually I disagree, the thumb nails are perfect. No mistaking what this is about. Very clear a V10 powered Ultima .. that’s it exactly

It was a bit intimidating at first...If I didn't have the harness layout diagram from the parts website, I would have been lost for sure!

Where did you get your AUDI service manuals from? And love the build videos.
I found them via Google. A couple different Audi forums have download links.

Dan, maybe I missed it - but why were there issues with the immobilizer when you had a matching engine and trans from the r8?
