My 55 / 1.8 was one of my favourite lenses on my A9 until the 50 / 1.4 came in. Yes, it is a little more bulky and heavy, but the sharpness and the accuracy are already at 1.4 absolutely stunning. As my 55 slightly missed some shots (about 10-20%) the 50 / 1.4 gets over 99% in focus. The 85 / 1.8 is one of my first primes I bought a few years ago - and due to the size and weight of the newer 1.4 I never would take a switch into consideration. It's tack sharp and absoutely solid. But in the range of my primes it is the most less used lens, because I like to be closer to my subjects - therefore the 35 / 1.4 and the 50 /1.4 are my personal favs.

@@adamginsburg9909Thanks for worrying on my physical fitness - that's not the case. Everyone has own preferences. And for me it's more important to stay mostly compact (in relation to one of the fundamentals of the Sony ecosystem) than one additional f/stop and all the other parameters as weight, filtersize, price, etc...

I shoot on the A7R series cameras but still enjoy using compact prime lenses. The Sony 50mm f2.5 G is a great street lens with interesting and unexpected character considering its relatively cheap price. Secondly, I love using the first lens I ever bought for the A7 series, the Sony/Zeiss 35mm f2.8. It's tiny but it is sharp and so unobtrusive. Finally, I can't live without my Sony 90mm f2.8 G Macro. It is the best macro lens I have ever used. It is sharp beyond belief and yet delivers smooth, rich bokeh. Its best feature is the sliding focus ring with which you can move effortlessly between manual and auto focus. It is, probably, too large for easy use on the A7C series but it is an essential lens for me. Moving away from Sony lenses - and moving up in price! - the Zeiss Batis range is my professional choice, but that's another story.

Thanks for sharing. I’ve had the Sony 85mm 1.8 on my list for a long time. Just have not gotten around to it. My current favorite lenses are the Sony 20-70 f4 G and 70-200 f4 Macro G OSS II lenses. What a great pair for landscape, travel and hiking. If I need more, I carry the 14mm GM or I’ll sometimes swap the 70-200 out for the 100-400 GM.

It's a shame that Sony ignores the niche lens market. Would love to see a tilt shift and new dedicated macro, but I guess I'll wait forever. 🙃

The only lens I would purchase at this point after having the 20G, 50 1.2 GM & 135GM would be a 24mm F1.2 Prime

Always fun to read comments lol. Everyone has different preferences so it’s hard to keep everyone happy. I love the 85mm 1.8, 70-200mm GM 2.8, and the 35mm 1.4. The 85 is by far the best lens you can get for portrait shots for the price. It’s unreal how sharp it is without having to pay GM pricing if ur on a budget.

135 blows away the 85, because I have the 50 1.2 GM, and most others will have an 85, and you attack with the 50 1.2 and 135 1.8 at the same time on dual bodies. Only glass that would make me upgrade would be a 24 1.2

Samyang 24/1.8, 35/1.8 and 75/1.8. No need to pay for these overpriced big and slow Sony lenses.
