Always excellent content. Please don't watch these videos looking for that part you read on a forum..watch this guy's videos start to finish. He's the real deal.
Absolutely stunning! For two years I've been wandering around mechanic workshops,.I've spent a lot of money, I've changed all the sensors, and I have precisely the same symptom! I'm going under my car tomorrow. I'm tired of the morning crank no start! Thank you, young man!
Always love seeing the fix. I wonder what a shop would have diagnosed it to me .. new injectors. That didn't fix it. New coils. That didn't fix it. New O2 sensors. That didn't fix it.... Parts cannon out of ammo with no clue in sight with a 3k bill that didn't fix anything but it's ok. The car needed it anyways. Good shops are hard to find. One time my dad had a 1990 caravan and the lights wasn't working. Took it to a shop and 300 dollars later and a new steering column it was still broke. I took a flashlight not knowing anything at the time and looked under the dash and found all these burnt wires at the dimmer switch. Went to advance auto parts and with 10 dollars in wire and connectors I fixed it. Been doing all my own repairs ever since. You always put out great content
Totally agree with everything you said- yeah the parts cannon would have had a field day on this one especially with that fuel pressure being just about at spec and how well the car drove after it warmed up. you are absolutely right that the O2 sensor would have been changed just because of the flatline lean at idle.
Matt is very patient at explaining, good videos for those starting in this field. Matt shows what we all go through with finding information and trying to figure out how the system works by running tests, this is more challenging but the best approach because you can troubleshoot any car this way. Basic systems here but the same principles apply for most cars and technical info is key if available to save time. Thanks for the video boss.
This guy is so good! Seeing this video reminded me of my silverado 2001 wont hold fuel pressure changed fuel pump and pressure regulator. Key on 48 psi turn key off 0 instantly.i blocked return line to see if it was the injectors and pressure remained so confused on what it can be.
It's so true; knowledge is power. When you put the effort into your basic preparatory measures, any nuances can be handled with a little model-specific research. This methodical approach to auto diagnosis also has the benefit of not needing to cut the first part of your video - where changing the plugs and wires failed to fix the problem.
PRODIGY Schrodingers Box Thanks for sharing it loved it start to finish tutorial outstanding 👏 👍 Take care and have a great Evening PRODIGY Schrodingers Box From Nick Ayivor from London England UK 🇬🇧
Hi Matt, although it didn't affect the overall outcome, I noticed your pressure gauge doesn't zero, so may have even been showing higher than actual fuel pressure. Also, interesting how the fuel pressure no longer slowly dropped once you clamped off the return line. That would normally indicate that the pressure regulator was allowing unregulated leakage to the tank lower than it's set pressure, rather than the pump check valve leaking backwards through the pump. If the pump check valve was leaking back, we should've still seen pressure dropping once the pump was switched off with the return line clamped off. Only determination I can make is with the return line clamped off, it loads the pump check valve more helping it to seal better, or the regulator was also slightly leaky/sticking too🤔🤷👍
That part got me on the last video! Perhaps the regulator was stuck open until it the new pump gave it full pressure, which helped jar the regulator loose so the spring could take bac over? I never second-guessed the pump being bad but thought for sure the regulator would be a secondary issue.
@@ablackformula Yeh, I was thinking the same about the regulator. Only thing that made sense to me too, is the regulator was sticky and not fully closing, due to the old pump being weak, and maybe the vehicle had been sitting for some time, moisture in fuel causing rust etc. Then with the new pump performing properly exercised the regulator to start working again, or perhaps flushed out some junk on the sealing surfaces inside the regulator, or maybe injector/s were leaking and free'd up, although Matt did mention an injector leak didn't appear to be a concern....I guess we can only speculate, Matt's the only one who really knows what parts were 'actually' replaced.🤣👍
@@simonilett998 For the sake of mankind I'll trust that Matt didn't change parts and not tell us lol. I'll go with some dirt/rust/lack of exercising got the regulator stuck open until it got slammed with full pressure.
yes I noticed that too in the editing. it does sometimes zero fully and sometimes not. i need a new one. usually that 2 or 3 PSI difference from zero is irrelevant but in this case it was significant since we were talking 2 or 3 PSI below spec! but for me the WOT test was the defining factor.
I need to get opinion on a 2003 GMC Sonoma 4.3 L NUBER 4 CYLINDER HAS A NO SPARK THE WIRE WAS TESTED I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IT COULD BE BEING A SINGLE. COIL A NEW ROTOR AND CAP NEW PLUGS
Since it has a distributer and no spark at 4 it’s pretty simple because it has to be secondary ignition issue so that makes it super easy. Start by checking for spark at the #4 tower on the cap. If it’s not there then you found the issue. If it is then just go down the line on #4 checking spark until you see it disappears and that tells you what is bad.
Good morning you said best way to reach was through TH-cam because you don’t get notifications. So got a question after all this time do you still use auto enginuity and have you tried it on the iPad .I would like to say I’m enjoying the videos on premium site and yes the discount come up for the smoke machine. I’m not ready for it yet but when I am thank you.
Yes and yes. I use autoenginuity a lot still. The graphing interface is more practical and I do graphing a lot. Also yes- I have used the ipad version (on my iPhone as well) and it works great!!
Resources are challenging to me because I fix cars relatively rarely, so it's difficult to justify $200 in a smoke machine, $500 in a scope, $50 in a compression gage, $50 in a fuel gage, $100 in ac recharging equipment, $100 in a code reader, $x/month on a wiring diagram subscription, etc. Do you have any suggestions?
i just buy whatever i need for the problem i'm fixing at the time. there are videos on youtube where they identify a problem even without equipment. sb uses science to 100% know what's the problem. so he's at the upper end of troubleshooting.
i understand your point and have lived it. Like empty tomb said- sometimes you have to just pay out for capital investment. However One thing I have done in the beginning is basically charge customer just for the tool I want or need. so for example some Mercedes or BMW’s use special tools that may cost $200 or $300. well, the cost of a visit to a dealership is twice that so I work out with the customer “if you just pay for the tools I need plus any parts we’ll call it even”.
Bring back the flux capacitor... Mikey J. Fox has parkinson's now... I think it may have been a mal-adjusted flux capacitor. It may have become the flucked capacitor.
Check engine stop coming on win turn key on has new fuel pump only a two years old I wonder if PCM going bad it stop scanning no reading on ODI went AutoZone check it not reading before did one day stop

Thanks and good to see you again my friend!
Nice to see a video from you. I never told you love your trans am. I had a 88 GTA trans am. Had every option.
Miss the old Troll videos. 👍👍

Hahaha hey if I did do that I would have included it!!!
I gotta get a fuel pressure gauge and a smoke machine, I would have definitely barked up the vacuum tree.
nice job.
You should!!! Especially the fuel pressure gauge for sure. hugely helpful.
Great job! Thanks for not leaving us hanging!
You bet!

I'm working on it- they are back ordered due to Covid lol.
