Just fitted adjustable ball joints to try and get camber back within spec after lowering my cc. Replacement was fairly straightforward but did require use of a splitter fork and 6 or 7 good whacks of my good old lump hammer to get the old joint out. 17mm nut was spinning when trying to loosen off but managed to get mole grips on to lower part of the joint. Easy enough job if you make sure you have the right tools before you begin.
OK - at 1:20 the nut is not finger loose, actually unless you break the stem of the ball joint free of the knuckle the nut will tighten up against the underside of the axle CV joint....I just did this last weekend, that part was much harder than shown here. I like the video to orient the work steps better than VW shop manual, but some reality would be nice too! On one nut it froze and the stem began to turn in the ball joint....had to cut the stem with a saw to pull that side...real wrenching can get a lot harder than these videos let on! But great for educating the basics :)

Thank you for your comment. In general, the replacement will be similar, the only thing that may differ slightly in the design features of your car. You can find more detailed information in the technical documentation for the repair of your car. Best Regards, Autodoc team.
The joint between the control and ball joint (where the three nuts are removed) is seized on my CC. I tried a pry bar, screw driver, and shocking with a hammer and have not succeeded in separate the two. Any suggestions? I'm trying to avoid a torch but if that's what it would take then so be it. Thanks in advance, love the videos!
Thank you for the feedback ! Probably, the ball joint went askew, and due to this you can't take it off. Try to clamp it again and then dismantle it once more. Best regards, Autodoc.

Ok kids, in reality it is not that simple. Corrosion and pressure exists and we must deal with them. So in accordance with the VW repair manual you can use VW ball joint puller 3287A...for those of you who can't gain access to that tool then just rent out from Oreilly or AutoZone. There are several types so bring with you a few hundred dollars to get all of them then returned them to get your entire money back.
Thank you for your feedback! You are right - this replacement is very easy to do. Our video show only the replacement which can be done by unprofessionals. Best wishes, Autodoc.
@@fiehlsport I replaced these along with tie rod ends during a tire change at 72k miles and the front end is so much tighter....handling and steering are dramatically improved....YMMV....drive hard, replace stuff often....

Should of used the 5mm Allen wrench socket for the end of the bolt
@@uriahbahl1878There’s no room to do that unless you take the axle out.

Pickle fork from pparts store
Drop the whole knuckle with joint attached if all else fails....you will have all the access you need....but a lot more to put back together :(
Can you post a video showing how to replace the lower control arm (wishbone) and the inner tie rod, on this car?

What may happen if I didn't replace the bad ball joints?
Thank you for the feedback! The control of the car will worsen and this will entail further damage to the suspension. Best Regards, Autodoc
Why is my honda crv rd1 doing free wheel play?

@@autodocuk This assumes you don't have to pound on a ball joint seperator for 3 days to pop it free.
how often should i replace this?
Approximately, once in 10000-15000 km Best regards, Autodoc.
These can last past 120,000 miles and are not a frequent maintenance item. What??
