  • DoubleThink is a piece based around the term DoubleThink coined by Orson Wells in his ‘1984’. The video can be broken down into four distinct sections firstly “The Lie” is footage of happy American families who are unburned and free with sections of subliminal messaging placed largely to do with patriotism, militarism, or harsh realities. The second is the first view into reality yet still deceived, showing the various horrors of war with the repeated message of ‘its worth it’ as those who justify these costs of militarism would propose. The third is a reflection of the homeless and discriminated against, those who can not afford to eat or work and thus live in scrawler well those from the first section live in happiness. Lastly is the return to the great lie, just as the protagonist of 1984 returns for the party we also return to the great lie. Shortly before a man approaches a typewriter and types out the definition of DoubleThink.
This video is meant to be my interpretation of this idea of DoubleThink using historical footage to relay a modern message.
