  • Hi Everyone, Just a quick video to show you what I feed my Serama chicks, I have used the same food from my second lot of chicks I had about 8 years ago. I started out using chick crumb dried and moist but found dry there was a lot of wastage and wet the chicks would get it caked on there feet and beaks. After doing some research I found one internet site /blog (can't recall what it was called) recommending Garvo so i gave it a try and have stuck with it since. Of course everyone has their own preference and I would like to hear what you use too. My chicks and chickens also get treats from mealworms, greenery, dandelion leaves, berries, scratch mix, fruits and occasionally sunflower hearts also I use yogurt, if I think they are looking a bit off colour and scrambled egg if I think they need some extra protein but this is very very occasionally. I also put garlic, apple cyder vinegar and multivits in the water if I think they need it but will do another video on this.
    Thanks for watching :-)

They do have cute characters don't they. I must admit we have had them in the house in the past, they used to watch the television with my daughter 😄. I have left a comment on your other comment regarding food quantities hope it helps. Thank you for watching 💕

How many pounds do you go through, HMMM, let's say about a month? How many chickens in total ,do you have too? I'm just trying to figure it out how many I actually want to keep her with me when they start to have babies I don't think I'll get rid of any LOL. I know I don't have nearly as many as you but someday I hoped you LOL I love my seramas I wish I could get some of the stuff that you get there in the UK mine are I take them hunting for worms and bugs everyday plus their people foods 🤠

Hi, thank you for your comment. Yours sound like they have great fun hunting for worms ☺️ how lovely 😍.
I have 7 adults at the moment they go through approximately 22Ibs per month around 3.1 lb per chicken.
I have 9 chicks which eat about the same.
I buy a 20kg (44lbs) bag about every 2 months for the adults. And a 12kg (26lbs) bag for the chicks every month.
However they do eat each others food as they are in a mixed group.
They do have treats like dandelions, kale, grape, apple etc but only small amounts and a very small scatter of sunflowers occasionally. In the winter they get treats of an omega 3 seed mix scatter and ground corn etc.I may do a video on treats 😊. It sounds like yours get the opportunity to eat much more of a variety of foods so you probably won't need as much. We have strange rules in the UK about feeding food scraps etc from the kitchen unless it's a vegan household but I do feed them plants from the garden. When the weather is nice (not very often at the moment ☹️) they do get an opportunity to free range and so eat less of the dry food.
I have tried to answer your question as best I could we work in kilos in the UK but I have converted to pounds I do hope I have done it correctly 🫣!
I do hope this helps any other questions or if this is unclear feel free to ask anything. Thank you for watching 💕

      Hi,
*From hatching Garvo Alfastart Chicks 1075
then I start mixing in -
*From around 3 weeks Garvo Alfamix Chicks 1080.
      *Adults Layers Mash 730
I start mixing the layers mash in at about 12 weeks as my chickens are in a mixed group they have access to layers mash when they go in with the other adults anyway.
Hope this answers your question 🙂
      Thanks for watching 💕

@@chucksnchicks could you please explain what "Garvo" is? Is it like Chick starter here in the states that we feed the first 7-8 weeks old..ie: Vitamin packed & enriched with antibiotics to help bitties ..? Idk, please explain 😇

@@WhiskeysMoon1976 Garvo is the brand name of the feed, they make bird feed, farm animal and small animals feed.
The Alfastart Chicks I feed from hatching and then the Alfamix Chicks I feed from around 3 weeks until laying and then layers mash.
No it doesn't contain antibiotics or any medication. In the UK none of our backyard chicken feed contains antibiotics.
We can buy medicated chick crumb which contains Coccidiostat to prevent Coccidiosis but it is a choice in fact not many suppliers do have it. We can also buy layers pellets with an added wormer (called flubenvet) which is used for seven days if you wish to worm this way.
This is the list of ingredients contained in the Alfastart (from hatching):
soya dehulled extracted toasted, maize, wheat, maize gluten feed, alfalfa, broken peas, potatoprotein, soja oil, dried amphipods, brewer's yeast, millet red, oyster shells, organic acids, lecithin, shell grit. Vitamins A, E and D3.
I hope this has answered your question, it's interesting to find out the different ways we care for our chickens in different countries.

Hi, the brand is called Garvo.
From hatching it's Garvo Alfastart Chicks 1075
Then I start mixing in Garvo Alfamix chicks 1080.
For Adults I use Garvo Layers Mash 730.
I am hoping to do a detailed video on what I feed the adults soon I am just getting over COVID and although I think I sound quite sexy with my horsey gravel voice I don't think viewers will appreciate it 😂.

@@jessicawilliams932 Thank you 💕Oh I know Garvo has risen in price since Brexit as it is shipped from the Netherlands 🫤, Versele-Laga do a similar brand but I'm sure that's even more expensive!
I've been using Garvo for years I occasionally give them bantam size layers pellets but they look at me disgusted 😂.
