      CASIO never make a perfect watch. You can have solar powered but fixed bezels or you can have good sapphires crystals but written 10year battery on the dial or you can have the fish logo but no solar powered 🤦🏻‍♂️

    I’ve been saying this for years… Casio needs to make a scaled down Duro. Let’s call it the Duro 2. 40 mm in diameter, 47 to 48 mm lug to lug and upgrade the the movement to a tough solar. I’d probably pay over $100 for that. And I think they’d sell like crazy.

    • @Muhilica
      @Muhilica 3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      I second that. With this size it's simply not wearable for me. Bud 40mm would be nice.

    • @PaKePo
      @PaKePo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      *YES.*
      I don't really need solar as the battery lasts long enough, but it has to have an end of life indicator. It has to be thinner and the blue one has to have a darker shade of blue in the dial.
      That's what I'd like .

    • @nickyalousakis3851
      @nickyalousakis3851 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      if casio put that movement and solar capability in the duro.... wow. as it stands i will stick by my trusty duro until i lose it, break it or casio does what i suggested.

      @hermeshein-yahav7247 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I agree. let's make a petition for CASIO to manufacture the SUPER DURO, which will a microbrand of CASIO, like when SEAT company noticed that the SEAT LEON CUPRA car is selled like crazy, they launched the CUPRA as a seperata microbrand of SEAT... CASIO should take the duro to next level, with ceramic bezel, super titanium bracelet, 500m water resistant, original clasp with the sword fish logo, hydro mode (like SINN watches), sapphire crystal glass, day date, perpetual calender, solar powered quartz. If CASIO do so, they will sell SUPER DUROs like crazy.

      @nickyalousakis3851 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@hermeshein-yahav7247 LOL.. that would bring a $79 watch to over $500... i'd be happy with just a sapphire glass and bigger date display, which could be done inexpensively. duro is famous for it's price point s quality.

  • @anthonystevens8683

    A long time ago a fixed bezel would not have bothered me as I would never use it. Now I use the bezel quite often for timing really important stuff like how long a tea bag has been stewing in a mug of hot water or how long an irritating person has used up my time on a conference call and added less than zero value to a project. I must say though the hand misalignment is way off for a Casio example in my experience. Usually these are nigh on bang on the markers, well from my experience anyway. Let's hope the alignment on your example is not a signal for a future trend. Keep up the great work Ben!

    • @vonkruel
      @vonkruel 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes, since I started wearing divers I've been surprised how often I use the bezel. It's actually handy, unlike tachymeter bezel. Also, even in my non-life-and-death situations I'm glad it's unidirectional.

    • @vonkruel
      @vonkruel 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I could suggest Longines VHP, if you want a quartz that hits those markers bang-on. It's a bit more expensive.

      @@vonkruel I must confess I do like the VHP from Longines that is on my list to consider as a set it and forget it watch that's really well finished but is more expensive as you say. There is GMT VHP version that has a clever phone flash function as well but that will add even more cost.

    I'm of the impression that dive watches have a different coloured minute hand because minutes are critical when diving and a different colour may be easier seen. A fixed bezel therefore makes the red colouring of the minute hand totally bloody pointless. The ball was definitely dropped on this. Great review as usual Ben. 👍

    I've never felt any overpowering desire to own a Duro. But when I saw this watch I thought "Wow, I need one of those!". Solar power, decent WR, 24 hour markings, day/date and a nice looking handset. Then they wrecked it with a fixed bezel. So close, yet still a solid "nope" from me. I'm not a diver but I probably use either a timing bezel, or a countdown timer if it's digital, several times a week.

    I have both watches and I had most of the same thoughts. I'm one of those that won't use the rotating bezel, so that was ok with that. But I would have preferred the water resistance features that the Duro offer. I swapped out the band for a mesh band very similar that they used for the A700, only not signed. But I have a wrist that they both fit well. The only thing I would have liked is adding a boarder around the hour hand as they did on the minute. Same color or even black would make it easier to read. My biggest issue is which one do I wear. :)

    If only this had a rotating bezel. I've been searching for a watch like this & was really really bummed about the bezel. I'm really hoping they listen to their customers & come out with a hybrid between the two.

    I have the gold bezel version as pictured and the seconds hand is spot on, got to have a rotating bezel. I have the Armjtron Atlas multifunction and it's bezel is fixed as well, it does give it a cheap feel even though I will never use it as intended.

    Expert review. Very good photography. Solid voice over. Very good presenter. I am a watch nut. And I don't own many but I just like the idea of having my hearts content. Isn't that funny. I am saying Very Good Content. Casio dosent do what you do but both you and your work matches Casio! ❤ 👍

    Have you looked into the Casio MTD-1053? It's a 40mm case diameter with better lume then the Marlin, the same water resistance, screw down crown, rotation bezel and just an awesome dial.

    Damn, I have been hunting for a quartz watch that is exactly this for such a long time!! I’m happy that Casio finally made one!! Honestly, I really don’t mind the non-moving crown since I just like its aesthetic and not really gonna use it all that much. This is absolutely great. I wonder if it comes in black and gold like the Casio Duro? That said, thank you for reviewing this! Finally have something to look in watch shops and hunt this down.

    Basically make this watch but with the style and functionality of a Duro in a 40mm case. Casio would have a home run and I'd buy one in a heartbeat. I had a Duro and sold it because the case size was just too big for what it was. The small hour markers bugged me allot. I have the Casio Edifice EFM-100D-1A4V which I really like. It basically has all the features of the Duro but with a very comfortable metal band, it has a larger date display with an added day display and is a more properly scalled watch in terms of its face design. Plus it's a more original design instead of being yet another Rolex knock off. I got lucky and bought mine as new old stock for next to nothing with a dead battery. It's hands down a better watch then the Duro. It wasn't as popular because not every TH-camr in existence pushed as being the best budget diver out there. Meanwhile it sold new for $70 lol.

    I have the Duro and love it. It looks beautiful and it feels solid. I have no plans on downgrading it. Solar feature is cool, but then again so is a battery that will likely last 6 or more years without touching it. I don't think it's possible to beat the Duro for the price.

      It's not like we haven't toyed with solar technology in watches for generations. It's around in a niche, but never really exploded.

    While I don’t dive, I find the rotating bezel on my Duro really handy in the kitchen. Put a pot of rice on, turn the bezel and I’ve got my timer sorted. This one’s a non-starter for me. Not going for a bezel this big and chunky if it’s stationary.

      And I wish it was a tad bigger. Alas, watches are more like clothing than we like to admit. A wide variety of people just need a wide variety of sizes. A lot of us are much bigger or much smaller than the "standard" wrist.

    Hey Ben,
    I've just recently stumbled across your videos, and I quite like them. While I may not be on your side on every review you make, I've come to trust your judgements and taste can differ as we all know. I wanted to hear your opinion about a brand that keeps popping up in my TH-cam Ads recently quite often. I couldn't find any trustful reviews and was wondering if you may give them a shot, the companies name is "Égard".
    Another brand that I would like to hear your opinion about is Thomas Sabo, I myself own one of their watches and I quite like it, and would like to hear what you think about them and if they are too pesky fashion watches (yes I can bear the truth!)
    Anyway have a great day, thank you and keep up the good work :)

    I’m new to all this. So it’s probably a silly question I ask. What kind of movement does a Casio Edifice solar watch use? It only states Japan movement on the watch’s dial. Nothing else about the movement in detail on the official website either. Is it a cheap Quartz movement being used here? Or can it be called a solar movement? Is it better than a Quartz? The watch also uses mineral glass. I wish it had sapphire! Costs about 230$! It’s one of those big and bold designs. Thanks.
    Pete :”)
