You beat me to it. I came to the comment section to say just that. It could actually be argued that this is more of a Jeep than the crap they are selling as Jeeps these days, since Mahindra owns the rights to the Willy's Jeep, which is the original Jeep.
S Daug FCA thinks otherwise. They are suing Mahindra. FCA says that the agreement was with another company that no longer exists. I wonder who will win.
Mahindra makes some of the best Diesel engines in the world. This thing has a better engine than probably all mainstream off-roads. In India, Mahindra is hugely popular in farm equipment,Tractors, SUVs and Heavy Diesels.
Not a "Jeep knock-off." I'ts the ONLY Jeep you can buy. Fiat doesn't make Jeeps. They make enormous, overpriced, overwrought things that vaguely resemble Jeeps if you squint. This is an actual JEEP, and has been since the 1940s. The Italians are upset, but too bad. Nothing is stopping them from making a Jeep if they wish. They own the brand, after all. But they choose not to.
Actually, styling cues aside, you can't really blame Chrysler for the bloat in their Wrangler line. They have to meet a ridiculous amount of federal regulation. From safety to emissions. And then they also have to appeal to their largest buyer segment, who wants a vehicle which can do it ALL, which means it's going to serve most of its duty as a commuter, a grocery-getter, a trailer dragger, and a shuttle for getting the kids to soccer practice. This latter bit gives rise to the off-road abomination that is the 4 door wrangler. Lol. The most common buyer of jeeps of ALL types are the ones who want it as a street car that will rarely see dirt, but it's capable of handling it once encountered. And since high-horse engines are now the norm, gone are the days of the old 30 horse 4-banger which was once plentiful for such a utilitarian offroad capable vehicle. So yeah... Today's Chrysler built Jeeps are a far cry from their legacy, and you can only blame government regulation and market demand for the most part. I'm glad to see the return of the barebones willys style jeep! I hope they catch on!
Jeep can't pull this off because they would have to adhear to safety and emissions laws. Mahindra doesn't because they are not marking this as an on road vehicle.
Thanks India for keeping the real jeeps alive when the American companies can’t seem to grasp it. They have built fleets college kid sissy mobiles and now that’s all we can buy. Simplicity is beautiful. Make this a street legal vehicle and I will buy one.
I had one of the early Mahindra jeeps back in the 90s and I loved it, even though it was a bit gutless. Mahindra brought the whole production line including all presses for the panel's and have the right to basically create the original Willie's jeep, so it's not a fake.

It'll stay American for as long as this planet exists and we appreciate the quality of the midsize SUV that they offer here, the compass. Also, it's not because the Indian customers hesitated to buy quality cars that Mitsubishi had to close shop, it's because of their shoddy service network and reliability issues of their cars in India, just like Skoda and VW here.
For anyone who might look down on this due to it being from India, remember everything you think is american is like 80%+ Chinese(even things like John Deere tractors have China stamped into the frame/engine block metal), and also recall that India has some space capability which means they do in fact have some engineering skills, and finally they make some bad ass bollywood movies.

mckrackin5324 Willys WAS a Jeep. Willys made the original "Quad" as a prototype to the Army in 1940. Once in production and being delivered to the Army, they ditched the Quad name and gave it the military designation of the Willys MA. It was the soldiers that drove them that started calling it the "Jeep". The name stuck. Mahindra didn't get the licensing for the Willys Jeep until 1947, 7 years after it began production.
I cringe when people call it a Jeep knock-off. Whereas it is more Jeep than the Jeeps themselves. In fact let's call it what it is, a Mahindra! It deserves respect for keeping the legacy alive for more than half a century now.

Definitely not a jeep knockoff. A Jeep is a light go anywhere 4x4 vehicle who's name was name was coined by the us army in ww2. At the time both willys and ford made jeeps, and after ww2 they became popular as surplus vehicles so willys made a civilian version, the cj. then kaiser bought them, then amc, and then chrysler, where we got the big jeep brand name. However, anyone can make a jeep. Jeep(chrysler brand) is a brand but not all jeeps(jeep vehicles) are a Jeep(chrysler brand).
Bob Goat jeep is the name given to them because of the GP designation which stood for general purpose...then once the CJ (civilian jeep) was developed they didn't have a name to market it under so it was designated willys jeep, then kaiser jeep..then when amc was created it was shortened to jeep. but for the most part its always been Just Everyone Elses Parts. the name wasnt trademarked even until amc acquired it
First of all this is the real deal and not a knockoff, Mahindra is making Jeeps longer than FCA. The only jeep knockoff is the cheap plastic FCA 'JEEP' itself. Mahindra has a life long contract since WW2 to make Jeeps and this is a direct contract unlike what FCA inherited. FCA jeeps are like pet dogs they look like animal but are pets who need to be pampered, Mahindra is the real deal, a steel animal in real sense!!
Mahindra build quality is crap when compared to domestic GM ford and Chrysler. I would not be surprised if Mahindra body rusts within two years of salt roads and winter snow.
@Cash Money probably. But we are not talking about military spec. We are talking about US domestic market. An average American drives his car around 16000 miles a year and keeps it for 12 years. Have you driven in mid west and new England? Those road salts just eat away the metal. The roxor absolutely has cheap plastics found only in low spec 90s econoboxes and the vibrations of the engine is sure enough to rattle the brains out. The only thing worthy about it is the engine sound, but that's only it.
@Cash Money how much does it snow in Australia, south Africa and India? In snow, the roads become iced and salts are sprinkled on road to melt the dangerous ice. This simply reduces the chassis life. Even world famous companies like Renault, fiat and Citroen couldn't crack the US market because of they became rust buckets in no time.
Fun fact if you weren't aware, The original vehicle designed and built for the armed services was called a GP or 'General Purpose' vehicle. Obviously soldiers shortened it to Jeep.
(Roxor). In india it is called the mahindra Thar. I have driven Toyota's, Ford, Renault cars , Chevrolet's etc, but to me the Roxor is the best car there is .. it is reliable, tough, and easy to maintained.. I even used it to pull a water tanker/trailer (1500 litres) to my farm amongst others. It can easily go a 100 km/hr on road and for normal off roading, the Roxor is a beauty.. To me considering the price and everything, this is the best multi utility / purpose vehicle ever.

I like that thing better than overpriced overweight garbage jeeps from Fiat Chrysler which takes forever to take off due the excess weight.they should make them to have all basic requirements to make it street legal of course to be driven in rural areas and city and not highways, like some scooters that I know.
Did u know that Mahindra actually got the rights to the Willy's Jeep during, before, or after War war I pretty sure I can't remember but my dad told me the other day manly bc he works close to Mahindra
@@tomjones4318 Look up the history of the design. It was already stolen from the orginal makers who were left only producing trailers for the willys jeep. Mahindra does hold the rights to the design now. This is why these came out. The only differnece is it being diesel and having to be sold as a side by side. Theres already someone who took the limiter off. Think it tops out at 80mph.
I read the story twenty years ago. I'm also a designer. No matter the issues around the basic shape if that was a licensed Jeep product it'd say Jeep. It has just enough difference to avoid any laws. And the grill says it all: culturally and aesthetically ridiculous and avoiding the iconic Jeep grill. Mahunda assembled crate Willys that's it. I've read all the press on the issue also. Never any solid proof of license *"to manufacture Jeep"* Just elaborate *BS* That's what I'd expect from such a sleazy company anyway.
Mahindra. The best in India. 100% legit brand. Might be cheap in US, but not in India. Mahindra should have doubled the price over there, to adjust to the local conception.
Well we have no bad road issues because of Mahendra and tata I have no idea when last i drive scorpio on road I am always with my Tata truck for construction and always it’s offroad drive

Hello there! That is definitely a nice toy, in 1995 I bought a brand new Wrangler stripper model, rag top/doors, no power steering or radio, in black with a tan roof and seats and dashboard. For the total price of $13,400!!! I drove that Wrangler all over the northeast, in mud trails on the beach with sand so deep you could hardly walk in it. All I did was add nice black steel Rock Wheels with 32” Wrangler M/t tires. Also added Bilstein shocks, that's it! Never broke down and always got me home! Now I have a good trick for you when you hang a wheel like you were with the opposed wheels on the grass, where you were standing up and rocking the Roxor. With an open differential, when you have one wheel that has little to no traction and one wheel us spinning like it was in your video, all you need to do is apply the emergency brake! Just enough to stop that one wheel enough to send power across to the other wheel to get you going! That trick has worked for me countless times! Of course, that's only on rear wheel drive based vehicles! The only other type of vehicle I've used that trick on is a forklift! That has had one of the drive wheels either have nothing under it due to an uneven surface or was on oil or ice! I just pull up on the parking brake and just slowly drive away! I can't count on one hand how many times I've used that trick with friends around to see it work! I learned that from an accomplished automobile engineer- race car driver named John Fitch, the man who designed and built Lime Rock raceway in CT. Who had built a two lever system in his 1978 Mercedes sedan, but using the parking brake cables that he hooked up to the two small levers between the seats, to help in the snow! When he had a wheel spin he would pull the lever going to that wheel to stop it and have the differential send power across. That’s basically how the new computer controlled traction control works in any new Car!
Women are still confused on what makes men more happy, a state of the art machine with which they can play or a woman's body? Looks like here is the clear answer to that!😀
Knock off??? Really????. Mahindra started making jeep with proper license from Willys overland and keep producing it till today. I am watching them from my childhood. They named the first vehicle as 'Willys'. This vehicle looked wiered to me because it was the only vehicle having it steering wheel at left side, two gear livers and spare wheel attached to right side. Then they introduced the next generation model and named it as 'Jeep' . This vehicle had the steering wheel at right side and spare wheel at the back. Then came Mahindra Major. Then came Mahindra mm540. This vehicle had two spoke steering wheel instead of three spokes. This vehicle was in the market for more than a decade before they introduced the modern day Thar. Meanwhile there are a list of cabin version also evolved like Mahindra Marshal, Mahindra armada and Mahindra bolero. Roxor uses the same engine as Bolero which is mainly used as police car and tourist vehicle in India
By: Anthony Alaniz The drama between Jeep and Mahindra over the design of Mahindra’s Roxor continues. The Indian company introduced the off-road-only machine in question back in 2018, though Jeep quickly tried to stop its sale in the US, claiming it looked too much like its Wrangler. The two have gone back and forth since, though today Reuters reports that the US International Trade Commission has approved Mahindra’s design of the 2021 Roxor for sale in the US.

Mahindra makes some of the best Diesel engines in the world. This thing has a better engine than probably all mainstream off-roads. In India, Mahindra is hugely popular in farm equipment,Tractors, SUVs and Heavy Diesels.
2:09 Wrong Wrong Wrong, they own the patent since the 40"s
Not a "Jeep knock-off." I'ts the ONLY Jeep you can buy. Fiat doesn't make Jeeps. They make enormous, overpriced, overwrought things that vaguely resemble Jeeps if you squint. This is an actual JEEP, and has been since the 1940s.
The Italians are upset, but too bad. Nothing is stopping them from making a Jeep if they wish. They own the brand, after all. But they choose not to.
my eyes
Jeeps are still made in the same place that has made them for decades, you imbecile
Jeep can't pull this off because they would have to adhear to safety and emissions laws.
Mahindra doesn't because they are not marking this as an on road vehicle.
To be honest, it's not like it has any real competition.
Thanks India for keeping the real jeeps alive when the American companies can’t seem to grasp it. They have built fleets college kid sissy mobiles and now that’s all we can buy. Simplicity is beautiful. Make this a street legal vehicle and I will buy one.
College kid sissy mobiles. Far out 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Should check out the “thar” but we can’t get them here because Chrysler is too busy suing others because they can’t make a decent vehicle
A word " cheap" is a sign of poor vocabulary. You can just call roxor as more economical.
I had one of the early Mahindra jeeps back in the 90s and I loved it, even though it was a bit gutless.
Mahindra brought the whole production line including all presses for the panel's and have the right to basically create the original Willie's jeep, so it's not a fake.

Not really a knock off. Mihandra made the original Willeys and never gave up the patent.
mckrackin5324 yes I'm clad that someone is saying what I was saying yesterday and everyone was like no ur full of it
It is cause it's not JEEP but even if it is original that doesn't mean it's not a pos
Willys was not a Jeep so that argument is wrong. Jeep is a Willys knock off.
Mahindra did not make the original Willys. Kaiser Willys made the original Willys. Mahindra bought the licensing after the war.
mckrackin5324 Willys WAS a Jeep.

Bob Goat thats true
That's correct unlike a bunch of these other comments
Well...That's not confusing at all!

Interesting Brian, thanks for watching !
Funny AF. It shows what typical buddies do when they get together and have something mechanical to play with. Good for you.
Thanks Ernest for viewing !
Women are still confused on what makes men more happy, a state of the art machine with which they can play or a woman's body?

Most people don't know that jeep original name was GP for general purpose. It was later called jeep because that's what it sounds like said fast.

The drama between Jeep and Mahindra over the design of Mahindra’s Roxor continues.

Original jeep license holder since 1946, wouldnt call it a jeep knockoff.
I'm amazed your neighbors didn't go @pe$hit cutting across their lawns like that..
Why do you think two cops cars showed up?
@@terrywaters6186 I wasn't talking about the police, I was talking about somebody coming out and screaming at them.
@@machinist7230 yep! Glad I'm not that jerks neighbor! RUDE!!
Amazing. This is the real modern jeep. Lucky guys to own in such great place.
Love jeeps, long term.
I've had plenty of them.
Driving them since they were $hit. Hardly anyone wanted or drove them. That looks just like the old 3a we had. Shovel the snow off the seats and drove to school.
That is more jeep than anything im driving now
If you're calling it a "cheap knockoff". Why dafuq did you buy it then?
No limited slip diff is a big mistake. BTW Mahindra makes a lot of tractors. I bet the engine is very similar to a midsize tractor. Probably bullit proof!
You guys are the best.
Thanks Ron !
