We always recommend to dance on the "1" - Music counts by fours (1,2,3,4) (1,2,3,4) and so on. We count 1-8 as dancers since we have to complete a full basic. So for us, it does matter if you are off by four counts since you would be dancing on "5" instead of "1" but that is only if really want to work on musicality and be on time if you are leaning towards a more proper way of dancing.
