I find it kind of hilarious that the black student gets approached by missionaries so much. Every Mormon I've known was a lovely person, but you can tell that there's a pretty serious savior complex that underlies the missionary work.

The mountains are pristine out of necessity for watershed. The lake is incredibly polluted as is the air oftentimes. I could go on for hours about Mormon stewardship of the natural world but the real downside of Mormonism is the people believe that they are going to heaven and non-believers are not. That makes them incredibly obnoxious to be around in the long run. They make you choose being either for or against them so it was a very hard to make a decision so radical that it makes me prejudiced against an entire group of people but I don’t want them anywhere near me.

Even better, I was pulled over by a cop driving home from the date, and he was really hassling me. Shining a flashlight in my face, and then into the car. I would say at least over 50 percent come off as perfect Mormons but then are drinking and partying on the weekends in salt lake then back to church on Sunday. Also forget about going to BYU if you are lgbt because if they see you or hear about you having relations with the same sex you will be kicked out. As a catholic from Maryland who has never met a mormon, I have been oddly infatuated with mormonism as a whole. It's so interesting to me how they are portrayed in popular culture. It's super interesting to me that within the United States there is such a high concentration of one religion and that in the middle of our country there is an epicenter of an entire religion that seems so foreign to me. Also like the migration of mormon people across the country then eventually settling in Utah is interesting to me, doesn't feel that different from an exodus you would read about in the bible.

Thank you so much for your feedback! I would love to help you find an answer to your question. The girl featured in the documentary was a classmate of mine at the time this was made, but that was five years ago, and I don't have her contact information anymore. I don't want to speak in her behalf in response to your question, but here's a resource for you: it's called "Chat with a Mormon." It's real, everyday members of the LDS Church who volunteer their time to answer questions by chat, no strings attached. Here is the link if you're interested: chat.mormon.org/
Best of luck, and if your daughter ends up attending BYU, I know she'll have a great experience! Let me know if you have any other questions for me.

Kind of like someone gpingvto the beach everyday but declaring thst they don't like the ocean. It baffles people. But BYU has several great programs that are attractive to people who aren't LDS. I think once your reasons are explained people would be pretty accepting. Getting that reaction on a regular basis might be a little annoying, but probably not a big deal. @@vigilantejusticevid I Started reading the Book of Mormon in Afganistan and picked it up again three years later in Afganistan. I was in the Army 22 years and learned to never question a person's religious faith or their lack on one. I understand the 1830 first printing of it had much less pages. I wonder if it is a Word Document they just keep adding to? It appears to be hard to believe? But if it floats their boats? If they like it? Good for them. But it is one of those churches that try to extract mo ey from their members under threat of not getting the best place in Heaven unless they can extract 10% of their members' worldly wealth. I have had Mormons that their church is ONLY TRUE CHURCH. That's kind of insulting to members of other churches. I understand that in order to join it one must believe Joseps Smith to be a prophet of a long line of distinguished elderly white gentleman? Their church services last a long time and the members are supposed to be in accordance with whatever the first echelon tells them to do? I respect them very much as I respect everyone else's religious beliefs or lack of them. But just speaking for myself I could not be a good Mormon because I had to be in lock step with the Army all those years and that chapter of my life is closed. I have know some Mormons that are nice people, to be sure. But I never want to be asked if I agree with a bunch of elderly high quality elderly white gentlemen in Salt Lake? I sense that when Joseph Smith wrote the Mormon Book and got the church stood up that he copied a bunch of ceremonies from Freemasonry because both he and Brougham Young were Masons. I was raised a Catholic and that sucks enough. At least all I have to do now and then is to show up at Mass when I visit relatives and say the rosary a couple of times a year to keep my relatives and my mother happy. But honestly, I think the Mormon Church is man made and I heard it said to be the first of the prosperity gospels? But I don't know. I would be very respectful of Mormon beliefs so not to offend them. But I cannot anticipate wanting to be a member of something that sucks worse than the RCC.⚖

@@JaimeGarcia-sg9xj hey thanks for the nice words, if you don’t mind a few corrections, and I’m definitely not trying to change your mind, just clear up a few issues. The strict rules we have are for what I believe is our benefit. I have many non member friends and the rules I follow protect me from things that may not seem obvious at the time and some that are very obvious. Also the tithing thing seems iffy and I understand the hesitation, but it’s actually very upfront and I can see what my money is being used for, but I completely understand how it looks. Also we don’t add to our scriptures, I don’t know if it was still being translated or if you got a wrong book, but I’m as confused as you are. And the whole one and only true church is a bit misleading. We believe that churches have parts of the truth, but the gospel has been restored and the priesthood keys are back on the earth. Sorry that was confusing, but I guess it means we have the full gospel.
I hope this cleared things up, and again that’s for the respect you show

The difference for BYUI is that people here are less likely to be judgmental, at least from my time here. More minorities, but still largely Caucasian population. Still high lds culture and high lds member population, but there is a lot less controversy here than byu. Also, you have more people from outside of utah(but still a large utah population), and so people are more accepting and diverse. Most of the bad things mentioned in the video are not doctrine caused, but utah culture caused.
