Subbed, thank you!!! Nobody talks about Horror Express, the algorithm heard me talking about it yesterday and here we are. Great stuff, well done-wish you all the success you deserve
This is like an early Christmas present. Brilliant video. The Carpenter version is one of my top 3 horror films ever (with The Exorcist & 28 Days Later) and I really needed to read the book. I’ll have to check out horror express too
31:10 interestingly the 2011 The Thing also had other aliens on board, however in the edit they decided to put a cgi wall of pixels over the alien body thus removing it from the movie, you can find behind the scenes videos and see that it was a blue alien with 3 eyes
With everything we know about supersonic flight through atmospheres, a blunt nosed tube like a submarine would actually make the most sense. Sub sonic craft try to be as pointy as possible to reduce drag while supersonic craft tend to be blunt due to how air flows over the nose at high speed. It's interesting how the source material describes a much more realistic craft than the UFOs that were popularized in sci fi culture especially early on. While the aerodynamics may not matter in space surely aliens also need to break free of atmospheres entering and exiting planets
You're mixing something up. That's pretty much the opposite of the truth. Supersonic aircraft tend to be the "pointy" ones, since a +-30° triangle terminating in a point is the most efficient supersonic shape. Look at the F-16, SR-71, F-104, Mig-31, XB-70. All optimized for supersonic flight, all "pointy". On the other hand, look at any airliner - Boeing, Airbus, they're blunt. And they're VERY much optimized for subsonic flight, all airline industry is built on that optimisation. Then again, look at the Concorde. Optimized for supersonic flight, is pointy.
I'm confused why 1982 got a point for the ship's explosion (that MacReady's team didn't do) but not for finding the thing frozen in ice, when they did in fact find it frozen in the ice. It had escaped its ice block, terrorized the outpost, and quickly froze again in its split-face form once outside. Right? Its corpse was responsible for assimilating Bennings, meaning it was not dead, merely still frozen until (at least part of it) fully thawed once more.
1982 Thing we see the ship exploding (in a video tape) but we never actually see the Thing literally carried back in a block of ice, whereas 2011 Thing the ice block scene happens in the present just like the book.
I should have clarified which specific part I was talking about a little better haha. I think I worded it in a way that inadvertently meshed both of your seperate points of either being found frozen in ice or being transported in the ice block together, and that's totally my bad. I totally understand what you mean about the explosion scenarios, but what I was mainly referencing was 16:50, where your first set of points that you give for story beats begins with the first scenario of finding "the thing" frozen in the ice, which they did with the split-face outside of the Norwegian base. Otherwise I agree with not giving 1982 a point for transporting "the thing" in the ice block because they definitely didn't do that at all. Also, thank you for taking the time to read and respond to my comment! What a fantastic video and channel you've got going. Seriously. I subscribed after viewing this video and I watched a few of your other videos (your Sopranos videos, as I'm watching the series right now) and I'm eager to see what's next!!
@@noah._.powellooooh you mean when they found the alien body outside the Norwegian camp? TBH it’s a short shot and I forgot about that. I guess my reason for not remembering was that it seemed dead, just part of the wreckage. Whereas in my mind the dog was THE Thing that started all their trouble. And if I’m being nit picky, the book, 50s, and remake movie found it literally in a giant ice cube, and the 80s thing you’re talking about was just in the open in the snow. Either way, good point you have. Also either either way, 80s Thing would win with or without this extra point haha Thanks for the kind words, really appreciate it. Got another adaptation showdown coming soon.
What do you think about the thing videogame? (which is getting a remaster afaik), apparently its cannon to the story, and even John Carpenter himself appears on it, and said the game "kicks ass!"
Regarding boner; Yes, it can mean a clumsy or stupid mistake. Kind of specific, but anyway there is a comic which has the Joker complaining about boners. Can't remember if it is real or not, but it is kind of hilarious anyway.
I love this series of yours. And I actually had no idea what Horror Express was before, but now I've gotta check it out. Thank you.
Thanks so much. Horror Express is a fun ride.
i loved horror express alien, its speech at 8:24 was my favorite part of the film
That was a really cool part. It's the only Thing that talks (about itself in the 1st person) I forgot to mention that
Hey man, this is some very good content
Very interesting to learn stuff about the books
Glad you liked it, more adaptation showdowns coming, stay tuned!
Ive never seen these good job

"Best one" is Carpenter's. Hands down. 💙
Best and most accurate far as I’m concerned
