i need to go practice, great video. I have been slowly practicing my audiation for the past few weeks and it's been incredibly fun. I could only do so from learning the Major scale. i also didn't learn this for years. it absolutely broke me through a ceiling i was hitting for a long time. cheers.
Thank you for writing this comment, strangely we share a very similar experience. A few years ago when I first auditioned for music school I actually failed. The tutor who was examining my audition told me to learn these major scale shapes and come back in a few months for another audition. I had no idea at the time why I was supposed to be learning these shapes but I worked hard at memorising them because I really wanted to get into music school. I’m so glad I took the time to focus on these major scale shapes because like you said it completely broke me through a ceiling I was hitting. I am still finding new concepts which I can find hidden inside these shapes. The major scale is truly foundational to music, everything from our triads arpeggios and the harmony that makes them all sound interesting together is found inside these major scale shapes. If you’re an intermediate you might not realise how useful they are when you first learn them, but over time as you progress you will realise how foundational these major scale shapes are to everything you play on the instrument, no matter what genre you play.
Learn whatever shapes work for you, the important part is making sure you have the ability to play the major scale all across the neck. Personally I like the shape I teach because there is always 3 notes on each string. This means there are more symmetrical patterns that repeat across the 7 shapes
I love that u mentioned layla i love that song 😭😭 also you explained everything so well

At 15:15 you show on the screen Cm is the relative of G major but it’s actually Em. You say it but the words on screen don’t match.
is it okay if i learn that scale the other way? like for example in G major scale i played the 3rd note (B) on 5th string instead on 6th.

Learn what interval is and how we tune the guitar...but I think everyone should first master scales only on One String first …
