The Combination of that Bass Line along with the Jazz Fusion Drums and various Percussion Tracks with the Acoustic Piano Holding down the Riff and The Fender Rhodes Gliding Repeating and Sliding all through The Cosmos laying a Bed for the Beautiful Soprano Sax to Soar with Enchanting Melodies is Just an Exilarating Experience for Your Soul to Travel through an Infinite Space of Love and Enlightenment!!!
Imagine a summer listening to Lonnie, Pharoah, Miles(On the Corner) Funkadelic(Westbound Years) Richard Davis, Ronnie Foster etc. This is what I was into when I first start diggin'. Gave me a very eclectic outlook on the sound of music. Cosmic Funk was and still is one of my favorites today...
23 years around the sun they say but I tell ya I been round for a lil while longer then 23 this music takes over and I’m no longer just that 23 year old boy exiled on his land but I realize it’s much deeper then that it’s really in the soul it’s all eternal bless you all much progress and radiance in your future ✨🙏
THANKS TO TH-cam I CAN READ EVERYONE COMMENTS AND YOU FEELS THE SAME WAY I DO ABOUT LONNIE LISTON SMITH MUSIC.I BEEN LISTENING TO HIS MUSIC SINCE I WAS 13 YEARS OLD BACK IN THE 70'S
After his tenure with Pharoah, Lonnie took some of the core members, his borther Donald and took his music in a offshoot direction from the same root or fruit. A James Mtume masterpiece from the Heath Jazz royalty family. Love Sais.
I was at the pyramids in Egypt at the millennium. Jean Michel Jarre was playing, now can you imagine if someone got Lonnie Liston Smith to play instead.
Yes! No offense whatsoever to Jean Michel Jarre, but having Lonnie Liston Smith play that gig instead would have been a million times more appropriate and a billion times deeper!
Let's stick to the subject. Lonnie Liston Smith wrote this song his soul traveled to Egypt he didn't have to be there to write this also the soprano Sax made this song work.It reminds you of snake charmers and other things you see in the Eutopia Eygpt society.
This recording is from Lonnie's 2nd LP 1974. Astral Traveling was his 1st. A Era that left so many great masterpieces. Too bad Lonnie never got his real due respect. His name should be famous. His music has always touched my spirit.
Yul B. Moore A lot of people confused him with the organist ( Dr. Lonnie Smith ) which really made it hard for him to be identified for who he truly was.
Good to know that I'm not the only one who likes this record most from all LLS works - however many of them where very impresive, both as a leader and a sideman.
The answer to intellectual fragility incites toward devotional peace sustained by truth and love, with security and justice for ALL TRIBES IN THE ONE HUMAN FAMILY...amen
I strongly suggest to purchase a turntable that converts vinyl to CD format; LLS was/is one of the all-time greatest composer/writer/musician ever. How about requesting some of this music from your local jazz stations!!! See if the young DJs know what is straight hip!!
I see why this mans music was so popular in the 70s. I heard his music playing in a dispensary cafe in Denver. Ethereal plane stoner music. Sweet though.
@mooreyb That's 100% true. He was a real innovator in jazz music and o pioneer of this nuJazz-like, soft, magical rhythms. Besides his LP's, he recorded in lat '60 and early '70 with Pharoah Sanders, Gato Barbieri and Miles Davis. And this recording is a Temple - I always shivers beacause of this sax.
LLS even took the UNIVERSE by surprise with this transcending, powerful, spiritual tune that will open up your mind.😗😗😗MEDITATE🎆🎇🎆🎇wake up my melanated people🐑🐑🐑🐑
The First Time I Heard This Tune, I Was Laying Next To An Ex-Lady Friend, It Was A Hot Summer Night, I Immediately Jumped Out Of The Bed And SHOUTED "EGYPT " !!!!!!! My Ex- Lady Friend Stated I Your Egypt!!!!!!! BULLSHIIIIIIT I Said In My Mind!!!!!!! Go Lonnie😎🕶🙀😱😎✊🏾👊🏾
+MrSammstyles That's a good funny response to thumbs-down - now numbering 4. Let's see...one was being pedantic about sound quality, another was too stoned to notice he hit the wrong thumb?

Some music equates to LIFE. This is such.
I can dig it.
This is indeed an amazing song. Less than 500 views? It's a disgrace.

As beautiful and timeless as the Nile
On a rainy Saturday, I realize above the gray clouds is blue, deeper and deeper blue, meeting the infinity of the cosmos. Worlds beyond worlds.
What a jewel this piece was and is ... what a jewel -- so humble ... what a memorable feel on the Bb Soprano' -- ohh!
Quel Voyage !!
