- Although Ivan keeps proclaiming he isn't buying any more cars, he has been hankering after a Ferrari 308 GTB, V8, fibreglass car for a while.
So he saw one for sale and went and bought it with a view of finessing it.
This video gives a preview of his plans for the car - plus there is some footage of a pub car meet, where Ivan's friend, Duncan Ricketts starts up his ERA GP1.
Apologies for the ropy sound in places .... - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ
Thanks Susie for bringing us more of the national treasure. :)
Ivan you are a marvelous man of endless knowledge and Susie is a fantastic woman to video it all for the rest of us to take in! At your age it seems as you are getting younger in ever episode! Cheers from Alberta Canada!
Thanks Ivan for my Shed Racing Debut…Always a good laugh to catch up with you all. PS the Capri looked great. Well done to Tim. I am sure there must be a video in the works for that restoration of your old racecar👍🏻
One of the greatest automotive racing engineers of all time ...giving away his secrets...and only 22K subscribers? WHAT is this world coming to?
had a good surge in new subscribers recently - let's hope it continues...
Never stop, Ivan!
Dont forget to do another Bugatti engineering lesson! Iknow I’ll never own one but someone with no knowledge might and your insights are invaluable!
Bugatti engineering video coming very soon
@@suziepilkington5600 excellent!! Hope there is more than one, there is so much to these cars, innovative engineering at its best, thank you for confirming
I remember in Westcliff about 1999 a yellow 308 strolls through at about 06.50hrs . Was a beautiful day and a beautiful car .
Welcome to the 308GTB owners club 👍👍👍👍
Excellent
The Vetroresina’s are quite a collectible thing. Early and on carbs! Well done!
I owned WHO308 in my early 20s, which was the 80s. Definitely on my “shudda wudda” list!
Nother cracking video.... and a good laugh...thanks Ivan and Sussie😊
wow ,what a beauty can't wait to see you old boys get ripping into that old girl , and to see you out on the track giving it a dam good boot full , so Suzy get your finger out girl Ivan needs his licence sorting out he he i am sure your on the case any way , thanks for the latest video much appreciated
Tip Top up in Yorkshire will be rolling out GP2 very soon indeed. It will be great to see both of these fantastic cars together sometime soon and it will be a great tribute to Raymond Mays and all those who have worked so hard to ensure that these cars survive.
I'm sure you checked but Iain Tyrrell had one of these in, apparently in good order, but the steel tubular frame was rotten. I love Ivan's videos; what a character.
More to look forward to! Nice Ferrari by the way.
Ivan, I'm so jealous, you now own my all time favourite Ferrari, the beautiful 308, you lucky old boy. It seems it has been a little mechanically neglected but we all know that John and your good self will bring that lovely old "Faz 308 GTB" back to perfect health.
I'm just back from Ireland, I wasn't cycling like the fearless Suzie. I like Ivan's new toy, there's some fun to be had for Ivan and John in the workshop. Best wishes, Dean.
Inspiring! Can't wait for what's next.
Great as always ivan😊
Ivan you might find a visit to Tyrells classic workshop on you tube interesting. He does lots of work on classic Ferrari and Lamborghini cars and has videos on how he sets up and balances multi carburettor setups. You might find it interesting or helpful in some way. Nice toy to have looking forward to some good videos and exploit tales. 😂
By ear plus experience. Not something you can just 'acquire'
I think Ivan's Mk1 earhole tuning will be entertaining, informative and perhaps a bit more down to earth than Mr T.
Hopefully.... I'll do my best...
Congrats on the purchase of the GTB 308. If you said that the car is fibreglass, then it's the early Vetroresina (glass resin), very collectible. When using the 2 carb balancers in one carb, it might be a good idea to check their accuracy to each other by swapping them on the carb chokes.
Good call. That's the sort of thing my Dad would do instinctively.
class act
Crikey that Aurelia was lovely ! Was there ever a more elegant coupe GT car than that? Proper narrow angle (Vitorrio Jano) Lancia V6 engine too
Can we see more of it please Ivan and Susie?
I just love these Shed Racing TH-cam videos, thanks so much for putting in all the hard work that goes into them x ❤
Just brilliant again, thanks to all involved
Good Afternoon Ivan and Team. Thank You for all your knowledge and understanding. I know of many people that follow Your YT videos, "down under". Kind regards from WLG . NZL..
Our pleasure!
I had a secretary, Alison, who went to NZ - she was a car nut and the best secretary ever
Well done shed team, another great video!
WOWEEE what a BLAST thank you Susie .
Fantastic video / that car sounds good ❤❤
Pretty well known in NASCAR that some teams commonly made modifications to the bottom ends of engine blocks to reduce the crank case dead air volume to encourage extra hp ....
What a beauty.
Thanks and thanks again
Good selection of cars at pub meet. look forward to Ferrari tuning.
it was a lovely car, but it was cheap! Another excellent episode
Iain from Tyrrell's Classic Workshop could give (some) hand regarding carbs
Great car and a great video Ivan!
Glad you liked it!
What a grand old man with emance knowledge. Congratulations.
Thank you kindly
Enjoy your new car Ivan!
I smile from beginning to end through your videos
Thank you
Glad you like them!
42 DCNFs? -I'd love more tuition on setting these up (Aston V8 uses them) - Iain Tyrrell has shown it but I'd like to see the Ivan method. Nice Car. I hope you enjoy it!
You need Iain Tyrell with his rubber hose & screwdriver to set the 308 carbs!!
A bit of nostalgia with this one. I had a fibreglass 308 back in the early 80s. WHO308, Ex Roger Daltrey. I was in my early 20s at the time. Could never insure it now!
Last I heard of it, it had been modified for the Challenge Cup and was going through H&H in a poor state. So that’s one less of the 150!
Good luck with this one.
Lucky boy to have one in your 20s...
Red hot and Rollin!
👍
The 308 looks good on you. Give her the beans
I plan to....
Everyone should be forced to watch Ivan.. And subscribe and thumbs up!
Congratulations Ivan on your latest addition Ferrari 308 GTB, looks fantastic 👍 another great video too, loved seeing all the classics. Any more update video's coming with your Speedwell Mini? looking forward to seeing it with the new wheels, great filming by Suzie again too.
More to come! Just keep getting distracted
Harry’s Garage had a vetro resina 308. Sold it years ago but borrowed more recently for one of his vids. Check out ‘number 27’ too.
9:46 poor old Ivan, suffering DoomBar. Cornwall’s not so good beer.😢
We have better, sorry Ivan.
Ferrari! I thought for a minute it was an X19 Fiat Gpx
They were launched with fibreglass, but couldn't meet demand. Then went to steel. Bit like alloy XK 120s.
Problems with the carb linkage is common, usually because the owner has messed with it. I would service the ignition distributor as well, points and moving parts for the advance mechanism wear and need lubrication. Nice car, good luck with it...
Good tip!
Proper one too.
get Ian Tyrrell over to set up your Carbs... good youtube collaboration !! (Tyrrells Classic Workshop)
🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁
Looks like BSAU145D licence 'plates on it..?, must be relatively new items. (narrow letters and numbers)
if the width is available on the car, an improvement would be BSAU145A 'plates with the 'proper' digits, or better still custom made period style aluminium ones.
Fantastic motor, i can see trouble getting both vacuum gauges to seal into those throats that are a wee bit close together. Doing it by earole would probably get you most of the way there, especially with someone who's been doing it for years.
I still sometimes see hoses and pipes on sale without the proper SAE rating for ethanol doped petrol, and the bloody things rot quite quickly. Old stock that people are trying to shift no doubt.
maybe you're right but we'll give it a go....
Jack on Number 27 TH-cam channel did loads of video on his 308.
My understanding is that the first series of 308s were fibreglass, not as a special, lightweight competition model, but rather because it was easier/cheaper to manufacturer the complex shapes and curves. And that the later, steel bodied models were more desirable because the bodies didn’t crack like the fg models. But I could be way off the money with this.
Enzo fell out with the fibreglass guys who manufactured them off site .Partly as sales picked up eclipsing the earlier released GT4 he moved to steel in house because it was faster manufacturing process and more profitable as lower costs in materials and man hrs .Nothing to do with racing .The GT 4 Dino was developed and run in La Mans ….eventually thought that’s another story .
Thanks Lynton, that makes sense.
Cheers
Maybe also look at the ignition. 2 distributors and 2 sets of contact points. Not the easiest one's to set up properly. But what about your 750 Giulietta Sprint? I was hoping that would be next in the row! Ivan looked to be a bit in love with the Guilia Spider @6.03?
can't do everything at once....Alfa is on the to-do list
Was the pub The Phoenix near Blackbushe? I used to occasionally go there and look at some fabulous cars!
I have 3 of those carbs on my 1978 Maserati Merak.
No - on the A41 in Buckinghamshire
The Phoenix Inn, original home of the VSCC. Its car park doesn't look anything like that!
Last time I was there was in the early 80s lol.
Ah witness the power of youtube, people recommending Ian Tyrrell and Jack of number 27 to Ivan 😃 Do you know who Ivan is and what he has done in his long career....
the power of TH-cam indeed....
👍🇦🇺
Like getting an orchestra to sound half decent.
Good buy Ivan. I look forward to you working on the "old" Ferrari. I had heard about the fiberglass bodies on some 308's, but they do seem to bring less money. Too much like a Chevrolet Corvette perhaps? 🙂
I think it is the other way around
@@shed_racing Thats the problem with comments, 99% of these folks don't know what they're talking about...
@@shed_racing Yup they are about 150lbs lighter and with the dry sump ( less likely hood of oil starvation cornering ) tended to get swept up by the racing fraternity in the late 70 s and 80 s .As he said the hill climb series theFOC run .
Magnum
You should hold a car rally at you place
maybe one day, you never know...
What's the car to the right of the TVR at 7:00? Is that a Peerless?
I didn't know they made glass one's
The easiest clutch you will ever change.
Is that the case? Interesting. I've got vauxhalls from the eighties, now they really ARE a doddle to change. Shame about the rest of the car, but what can you do...
F/G 308 Dry sump?
The carbureted Ferrari 308 GTS/GTB models are wonderful cars. The EFI models are garbage.
Reverse engineering . But if you break are part it can be costly .
Ferrari made 154 uk rhd fibreglass in total.
thanks for the info
Maybe fit fuel injection.
lol
I bit old for midlife crisis ?!
I just like cars....
@@shed_racing It's meant as a compliment...midlife crisis as someone around 50...I love cars to, have a 328 and being 72....
Public service notice; Ivan did not drive after consuming alcohol….or did he🤔?
Ivan doesn't drink alcohol, so no need to be concerned
Jack on Number 27 TH-cam channel did loads of video on his 308.
