    My husband passed away last year and I'm disabled I bought this for a small patch in my backyard in the other side of the garden area My John Deere won't go there do to the fence my husband built around it. He used a gas mower I can't start a gas mower. I purchased a electric mower not knowing it wasn't self propelled last year like to have killed me I was in so much shock I just got it done So this year I just bought this one it came today 5/24/23 and I'm thankful for this review I'm the person you spoke about Just got to know the grass Although I would love to know how to get a yard with weeds not weeds lol 😂 to grass like yours. My husband didn't take very good care of this lawn the last few years understandable Now I want a easy way to a green lawn Any videos on this? Your a kind neighbor to give the too her. I know she will appreciate it. Take Care
    Thanks Sheila

    72-year-old senior lady with a new heart condition here. I can no longer push my gas mower up and down my hillside "lawn" (weeds) or fool with my corded trimmer and blower in the southern heat. Neither can I afford to pay someone to mow. Just bought this mower and Kobalt combo electric blower and trimmer for a total of three 24-volt batteries and $700.
    Just finished mowing my smallish "lawn", not overgrown, with hills so I used the self-propel feature a lot with a number 3 height. Plus a 30' by 30' fenced food garden with three long raised beds that are difficult to maneuver around, very tight. The 20" width is better than my 22" gas mower. I fully charged the two batteries and then got a shocking hour and a half out of it! Takes 3 hours to charge. Love the 4-wheel up/down mechanism, so easy! This is the first mower I've ever had with a handle that's high enough for my 5'-10". It's lighter than my gas mower and all the weight is at the back on the wheels so tilting is easy. Best of all, it's quiet! No more ear protection. The self-propel lever is okay; you get used to it, but I found it would engage off my belly from time to time when I didn't want it to, mostly when pulling backward (I'm not overweight at all).
    The instructions aren't well-written and they mixed up red and green in a chart about the meaning of the lights. That's typical American business; they are more interested in legal CYA than informing their customers. I worry that it's not tough enough to handle the muscadine vines constantly creeping out of the woods all around my house. I did hit a small rock an armadillo loosened by digging, but I couldn't feel any nick in the blade so I guess it's okay.
    My biggest worry is service when there's a problem. There's nobody in this rural area who knows anything about these battery mowers. There's not much to go wrong, I guess, and no regular maintenance so I'll just hope for the best. No more noise or gasoline or oil or stinky exhaust or pulling that damned cord! I can stay in my house a few more years now.

      I had the unfortunate issue with the string trimmer of losing the spring...the konalt people sent me to lowes,lowes sent me to kobalt.
      So far a run-around, but I got it to work(loosely, as I have to pull the string manually out while pressing the button).
      I got it because the deal came with 2 batteries...I have like 7 more ... and the blower/ trimmer, but they're kindve weak.

    • @virginiamoss7045
      @virginiamoss7045 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jacobz.carson803 Same here except for the trimmer not advancing the string. I have to stop, pull out the spool (nearly impossible for lack of enough hand strength), free the string and put it back for 5 minutes more trimming; repeat, repeat, repeat. I want to claim something on the warranty, but I haven't been able to muster the fight that would take after fighting with medical insurance and another product. I never feel like a "valued customer"; I have come to feel like a victim of everything I buy, product or service. The US has become a nation I no longer want to live in, but I have no money to go elsewhere.

    I got one from my dad, he got it for free and didn't have the 24v max batteries. I have kobalt tools, rigid, and Milwaukee. The battery life isn't the best but I use it for the smaller areas. Then I get on my 46 inch cut Husqvarna rider to mow the rest. It saves me gas when I gotta mow 2.8 acres of lawn.

    I have a very small yard, so I got the corded version. The downside to the battery version is I've been told the battery only lasts about 3 years. The replacement batteries are almost as much as a new mower.

    I have the issues you describe with every $400 AWD gas mower i have ever had. I just got this mower becausr the reviews for the other 3 brands you mention have batteries that cost $350+. I already have over 6 large kobalt batteries for the other tools i have, so this gives me two more batteries. The vertical storage is the biggest selling point for me. My POS husqvarna won't run and i am tired of paying my buddy $60 everytime this happens. I love troubleshooting but i am tired of troubleshooting gas mowers. I am excited for this new experience.

      UPDATE: charged batteries overnight. Just cut my yard on steep inclines using self propelled at fastest setting. I cut for 46 minutes and I still have 2/4 bars on both batteries. I will use those batteries in my large kobalt blower to blow all the debris off my concrete and out of my mower. I am very satisfied. I didn't get the lawn mulch and we haven't mowed in 2 months. I did not use the bag or the side chute.

    I've been eying the 8.0Ah "Ultimate Power" batts to use instead of the included "Extended Run" batteries that come with it. Supposedly they give you less run time but more continuous power, especially for tools like this. I wonder if some of the issues you addressed would be resolved simply from just having that little extra kick..
    Ya know? Really set this thing to "11"

    I simply filed my blade to a nice sharp edge, (very easy, maybe 10 minutes) then cut the grass with one large battery and one small battery. Cut extremely nice into small mulched pieces. This was walking at a moderate pace only using self propel to climb an incline. Very impressed with this mower. And I am very picky about my lawn .

    • @TheLawnWhisperer

      If I were switching from Ryobi it would be to ego. Same company that makes kobalt makes ego, and ego is the more premium option

    • @alluringming
      @alluringming ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheLawnWhisperer i keep that in mind. When i first got into electric lawn mowers i went with ryobi cause on sale and more affordable. Though the batteries sucked but luckly few tools in garage compatible with it, though still had get batter as mowing lawn took 2-3 batteries, rare occasion 4. I owned total three, latest one i do like is way better than previous two but still has some faults with it. Especially since batteries wear down bit. Few co-workers i shoudl go to lowes and try kobalt or ego. Course im going to wait not going right out to buy one, most likely have get extra battery but will give brand a shot. Ego looks tad expensive from what i seen.

    Thanks for the review. I bought this mower last year since I’m already in the 24v line up with both power tools and lawn tools. The Ego 20” high lift blade (model # AB2001) will fit and works better than the blade that comes with the mower. All the clippings go in the bag and no missed cuts. I had that issue just like you.

      Just so everyone knows this is a 48 volt system. It uses 24v batteries connected in series. So the voltage will be 48v 5amp hours if you are using 24v 5ah batteries. If they were connected in parallel then it would be 24v 10ah total.

    First all, do not depose of your gas engine mowers.
    They still work the best, I bought a battery powered Echo. works fine, not great.
    By design it has a low RPM setting and a high speed setting, which is all about
    the ability of the blade to lift the grass, blade lift is key to getting a better even height
    cut on the lawn. People are duped by all these mower channels / you tube adds,
    which is the better battery powered mower.
    first off, RPM's, and Blade pitch for up draft, which lifts the blades of grass up,
    you need power, lots of power, consistent RPM/ aka Horse Power.
    One of the best batt mowers is the one from Harbor Freight, vary pricey.
    I went with one battery, a Echo mower, has a low RPM and High RPM setting,
    Nothing to brag about. The patch of grass I use it on, 20 wide, 40 feet long.
    Between the Rabbits and the Law mower, it's a draw which one does a better job
    at trimming the section of yard. but for the main yard, I use a twin cylinder
    Husqvarna 20Hp 42 riding mower. I wouldn't brag on that one. It replaced a
    Troy Bilt 42 inch 20 HP riding mower, That Mower was awesome, it did a great job as
    lifting the grass for a great cut. all about the blade, RPMs and in this case, The pan,
    The new mower, The pan by design stinks. and the mower blades have little pitch.
    The Machine it self is very good. steers super easy,

    Thanks for the review. I have a 40V Kobalt push mower with interchangeable batteries for a grass trimmer, leaf blower and pole chain saw. The 40V batteries are a little heavy for these other items. I think the 2x24 V is great to reduce the weight of these other items, and great if you need to replace your cordless drill and similar equipment. My mower does not pick up leaves and mulch quite as well as my old IC mower. The reason the mower leaves grass uncut is because it does not pick up and cut the grass pushed down by the wheels from the last pass. I improved that a lot by mowing in a counterclockwise path so the bent over grass is cut with the clockwise rotation of the blade.

  • @monosurge

    So i'm looking at purchasing one of these and was a little disappointed you judged it solely on mulching capability. Maybe i've never owned a quality mower, but I never cut my grass and had it NOT leave clippings even with an advertised 'mulching blade'. I then switched to bagging mowers, hence my disappointment in the video. The bag was only shown at the end. Why didn't you test it with the bag? Also, 24v is misleading on Kobalts behalf. It required both batteries because it's likely a series battery arrangement. That would make it a 48v tool. I don't know that for fact, but that's my best educated guess on what's going on here and why you only get the starting umph of a 24v system because the current isn't being doubled by both batteries, the voltage is. I think it would heavily confuse the customer to advertise it as a 48v system when they don't have a 48v line so I think they did the right thing there. But I believe this to be a 48v tool. Take care!

    You should test the 80v Kobalt mower. It's a beast and would have no problem with any of that. I have cut some pretty thick brush with it and it just revs up and cuts through it without bogging. It also can start up while on uncut grass, so you don't have to tilt it up.

    Just a heads up do the research lowes does not stock this battery in store or online.

    • @chuckd7423
      @chuckd7423 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lowes stocks Kobalt 24v batteries in 2, 4, 6, and 8 amp hour ratings. Any of them will work in this mower, but of course the higher amp hours will give longer run times, and since the batteries work in series to produce 48v, which is required for the mower to run, it's better to use two batteries of the same amp hour ratings. It's possible to use two batteries of different amp ratings, but the mower will stop running when the lower rated battery is depleted, even if the higher rated battery still has a charge.

    I used a Kobalt 80V mower today. It wasn't even self-propelled. I echo your thoughts, and also add that it had crappy suction. Good mowers...they suck. This mower didn't even really suck, and that...well, sucks.

    ... I personally like the one lever to change the wheel height!... I had a mower once that had height adjustment on every wheel. Since I change the cutting height on certain areas throughout my property, the common lever is a quick transition.
    Switching gears, your newly-edged and mulched bed in the background looks awesome! LOVE that deep crisp edge! 👩‍🌾

    Nice, honest review! Is the price of this mower commensurate with its performance in relation to the higher end Toro and Ego mowers? For example, you could expect the Toro to be more money for its higher performance, is this one significantly cheaper?

    • @TheLawnWhisperer

    Just a heads up.. Definitely not a 24 volt mower.. Yes the batteries are 24v, but when you plug them in, its running @ 48v with 5Ah capacity.. That's why it wouldn't start with one battery.. No way a mower would work at 24 volts haha...........

    the 40v is on sale at Lowes because they are discontinuing carrying the brand for shitty craftsman. $180 for a $380 mower right now. just bought one and it kicked an overgrown lawns ass. battery lasted 40 minutes on my huge lawn but I take an hour break anyway every hour so it was fine.

      @@TheLawnWhisperer I ended up buying the 40v. It mows my ~4,500 sq ft lawn on one 6Ah battery if I do some pushing. I’d say the 40v trimmer is the best bang for buck of the group. Grabbed it, the blower and a pressure washer. Pleased with them so far.

    • @TheLawnWhisperer
      @TheLawnWhisperer  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s a test to see how well the mower mulches the clippings up. Believe it or not I do this test on several mowers and some actually do a better job at mulching up clippings than others. Most mowers are going to do just fine bagging clippings up. Most people aren’t going to bag up clippings so I do this test for those people
