Pye, you're one of very few photographers on TH-cam who actually manage to use your model's name throughout the photoshoot. It sounds so much more respectful than other videos. And thanks for some great, simple lighting setups - very clearly explained.

I also dont like how photographers treat body parts like set pieces...
      "Move the elbow", "THE?!"
"Move YOUR left elbow" is respectful.

Great video Pye. I hadn't thought about setting the camera on a tripod and ME being the light stand. :D that is a great workflow when I don't have an assistant handy. Though this is obvious to most, I think it is still a good idea to callout that you are shooting in HSS. While most strobes these days are capable of HSS, still a good callout to make. Keep up the great work. Will be trying this setup out on my next session. Thanks Pye.

I think that's great and I think with Lightroom now you can always alter the background as much as you want especially with the dynamic range in the cameras. I'm not so worried about backgrounds as much as I used to be because you can use gradient in Lightroom and really push and pull those backgrounds and they're very accurate. They don't leave any spots now which is great.

I've been a photographer for decades, but over the last few years, have not done much beyond events and setting up the full studio on location for stuff. Time to get more active again and really need to get out and shoot like I use to. Going to spend a little more time going through the videos here for some renewed inspiration.

Check out the Angler Fastbox. They're very compact like that OCF system, except the Angler doesn't require assembly. I bought the 28" version, but they sell a 20" and 24" version if you need to be even more portable.

Loved the video, love her outfit and location. I started using a tripod a long time ago with medium format cameras and now even more with digital because all it tales is a little shake with 40 plus megapixels and you've got a out of focus shot.

It's always a great informative, and inspiring video with Pye, its been a while, glad to see todays content. Think I made the mistake of buying a parabolic softbox to use when shooting outdoors, so a smaller style beauty dish will be my next purchase, as we chase the very rare sunny days here in the U.K.. As always, love the content you create and look forward to the next one.

All versions were good but I especially loved the alley with compression in the image.
Also, it's almost not fair when your model is a natural. I mean...you can't get a bad image of her if you TRIED!
    Well done, both of ya.
P.S. - would love to see a video on compression in your shots; different lenses and background to accentuate them. (one can always ask, right??)

Great job, I love the urban vibe of this shooting.
One question about the Beauty dish : using the diffuser is like using any kind of octobox or umbrella ? Moreover it takes some power out the flash.
I though beauty dish has special lighting effect especially on face. May be it's too hard to setup outside ?

Some good tips! For my quick travel setup I use the Godox AD100pro with the 28 in Angler Softbox. A much more affordable setup which should give you roughly same results. Maybe I'd throw a high quality ND filter on the lens so you don't have to use HSS and can keep the full power of the strobe.

Actually, I like to use a 7" reflector or 16" metal beauty dish with a AD300 (Bowens adapter already mounted to strobe). Set up less than 5 minutes, no worries about wind.

Hi Pye thanks for your great content. You always make awesome vidéo🔥 i have a question for you. Im a solo photographer and i want a setup light and simple in my backpack. Do you like most this 24’’ softbox to a magsphere or magboune? Maybe one days can you make a video for a 24´´ sofbox vs the magmod système on location like this one🙂

    • @payamjirsa
      @payamjirsa ปีที่แล้ว +1

Both systems are great. I'd say for portability, I'd go with the Profoto setup. The MagBox is awesome, setup is a snap. But it's rather large. So if you're traveling a lot, it's not going to fit into luggage easily. The Profoto system takes a bit longer to setup, but it's compact enough to collapse and go anywhere. So it's really a portability question, both are great.

Great video, as always, Pye! Perfect timing because I have a shoot just like this coming up next week. Also, thanks for providing something for those of us who are just out on the streets having fun with photography... Question: would an umbrella work almost as well as the beauty dish?

  • @paulkarassr6253

Based in Paris. Coming from AlienBees, the Westcott is more accurate in color temp and stands better the heat. I am quite disappointed though as my fj400 just died: the battery is dead and there is no way to plug the power connector directly on the strobe: I had to buy a new battery (215€ in France), while the same flash without battery is just about 250€ with Godox (more user friendly)...
So yeah quite disappointed after just 2 years of light use of the fj400 😅

Hah, this whole video sounds like it was done with a voiceover after the fact; it's almost too clear and "studio" sounding. Not really a complaint as good audio is overlooked by most youtubers, so it's just an observation.
