Robert is definitely one of the great bass players of our time. If you love Robert and Metallica, check out this video of Nathan Fletcher and Kirk Hammett here: bit.ly/2oAEDtE

And they knew better than to shit on him like they did to Jason Newsted. And they DID shit on Jason Newsted, they admitted to it in many "fanzines" years ago. So yes LARS, THAT is why Jason "fookin left (or quit) the band". A person can only take so much. ANY long time Metallica fan KNOWS that the guys ALL shit on Jason Newsted. They did it at first as to NOT have it all a "perfect come on in position" right after Cliff Burton was killed in the tour bus accident in Sweden on icy roads. You COULD call it "hazing", you know, giving him a hard time, so that it wasn't all easy for him to "replace" the much loved Cliff, BUT, they seemed to take it all TOO damn far. Well, THAT is MY take on the situation. Jason was NEVER given the respect he had earned after years of him being in Metallica, BUT, REALLY, Kirk was NEVER really given the respect that HE earned either. BUT, it seems that Kirk was NEVER in NEED to be "on top" like James and Lars NEED to be. Kirk is kinda like the "child" of the "family" that is Metallica, and it SEEMS that Rob is a bit like Kirk BUT, he may be like Kirk's older brother in the family that is Metallica. Sorry, I'm a bit drunk now, BUt, that is how I see it. Kirk and Rob are the best looking guys in Metallica. My opinion. That stuff about Jason being shit on is true. Any longtime Metallica fan that used to read the music magazines KNOWS that. The guys would admit to shitting on him, so, they thought it was funny and Jason put up with it until it went on for TOO long. It was under the guise of respect for Cliff, BUT, that is only okay for so long before it is just TOO damn much. Jason paid his dues, and the Metallidudes still were being assholes to him.
We agree, Alison! He's an awesome musician and a really cool guy! If you want to catch other Metallica-related videos, feel free to check out this playlist: bit.ly/2ellAQl
back in 2009 remember on my way in the venue corridors waiting to interview metallica, i was pretty much scared especially cause i would have had a face to face with lars. Waiting in the hall and nobody showing up, a door opens and james comes out with a face what the hell you doing here, then kirk, same, me start sweating, then rob shows up and smiling "heyyyyy man whaz up!!" then all went good, and lars was even in a great mood ahah.
I got to meet my idol, Dimebag, years ago during a pre-concert meet and greet thing just a handful of days after Phil was declared dead the first time from his overdose. My buddy wanted to meet him and have him sign his guitar but didn't think he would. The record store that was hosting the event was playing Five Minutes Alone when we walked up to the counter where the band was signing autographs. We watched as Dime passed about a dozen people's guitars in the line in front of us without ever touching them and my buddy started to get nervous but I told him not to worry one little bit. Drag the Waters was playing now as we set the guitar down on the counter. Dime looked at it, picked up and my buddy told him, "I can't get that guitar to play like you, I think something is wrong with it." Dime started playing along with the song for about two solid minutes. He handed it back, signed it and told my buddy, "It should work just fine now" and shook our hands. The nicest person on this planet and the best guitar player ever. I miss you, Dime!

Robert Trujillo is an amazing bass player. Just listen to his Infectious Grooves work. Outstanding! And very humble to boot. He deserves all the good things that have come his way.
Thanks for your comment, Fromage! We agree! Robert Trujillo is such a cool dude. Feel free to check out another Metallica-related video here: bit.ly/2ellAQl
I remember seeing Infectious Grooves open for Ozzy on this tour and thinking to myself, "Damn, that bassist is a monster!" Dude was so good on bass, it was the first time a bassist's playing jumped out at me. Happy to see his career take the path it did. Seems like a good guy.
That was fantastic. I LOVE how Robert Trujillo is just such a straight down the line good soul. He's always blown me away with that ever since I first learned about him way back in the day. Cheers, Jason from Ishibashi Music in Tokyo.
Thanks, Jason! Robert's definitely a one-of-a-kind guy. If you were stoked on this clip, you can catch more from our Classic Tales series here: bit.ly/2g3bxLI
Very cool story. Sometimes meeting your idol can be a supreme dissapointment as these are just people like you or I with the same foibles. Love hearing when it works out awesome and they ARE what they hoped they would be.
Epyx911 actually thats what i would like. Someone i would talk to. Like a buddy. Someone that doesnt act like a supreme god or something. I want to relate and talk with
That's amazing to hear, Thomas! And we think you rule too for watching and commenting! Don't miss out on any other Vans music episodes, here: bit.ly/2dxHegh
Been wearing Vans since 85' with my first pair being a Hawaiian Slip On with a Parrot ! I just finished recently a 32 days of "shoes of the day" where I wore a different pair of Vans every day!
I've been a fan of Suicidal Tendencies for 30 years now! I fucking loved Infectious Grooves, it's Sarsippious you dummy, turtle waxxxxxxxx..............
We agree, nautaki! He's a really cool dude and a fantastic artist that we were happy to meet! Feel free to catch other Metallica-related videos here: bit.ly/2ellAQl
This is funny as hell! The way they drew Ozzy is so freakin funny, his eyes all blood shot! I NEVER knew that Rob ever played for Ozzy, when you become an adult and work and get married etc sometimes you stop paying attention to things like that. Anyway, Rob is the best beast on bass, well, Flea of the Red Hot chili peppers is no slouch BUT, Rob is much more attractive. :)
Rob's got a great sense of humor. Did you catch his Ozzy impersonation? He is great at imitating other voices. And he is a fucking BEAST on stage. His fingers move like they each have a brain. A great musician.
We completely agree, D.J. Robert Trujillo is such a cool dude and we were stoked to hear his story! If you want to catch more Classic Tales stories, feel free to check these out: bit.ly/2bbPXSV
I had the chance to meet Rob backstage last year and he made me feel like a close family member that he hasn’t seen in a long time. He’s a super cool guy
We're stoked that you enjoyed the video, Beard Punch! We enjoyed Robert's story too! Feel free to watch other "Classic Tales" videos here: bit.ly/2afns6w
The reason why I am playing this instrument... Thanks to him for bringing me into the bass universe...His style is unique and mesmerizing such a badass bassist I love Rob, he is my hero!!!!
Rob seems to be one of the most down to earth just every day live and enjoy life kind of guys. There needs to be some PSA videos playing in schools across America showing Rob describing his life story, because he would be a great inspiration to teens today that need someone to look up to.
Saw Suicidal Tendencies in concert when they opened for Queensryche. We were all waiting outside the stadium before the show when this white van pulls up to the curb and guess who jumps out... Suicidal Tendencies. They set up a table with a bunch of pizza and some ice chests full of pepsi. They hung out and talked and signed autographs. Totally unexpected and super cool guys.
I remember Infectious Grooves! In fact I remember the night their song "Therapy" was first played on Headbangers Ball on MTV (You know, when they played music) anyway, it was in a contest of best new song against...Hmmm, well I don't remember, but I remember Ozzy being on the show when the song debuted and when the Vee Jay said, "Vote for your favorite band" Ozzy kept repeating in a low voice, "Infectious Grooves. Infectious Grooves." Thank you Robert for rekindling this memory in my mind 30 years later!
The disclaimer was funny. Thanks Robert for sharing your story! That's awesome! Have enjoyed your music and shows for years! Always a great time! Thanks brother!
Thanks, IrishHarlan! Glad you got a kick out of this. If you were stoked on this video, you can catch more from our Classic Tales series here: bit.ly/2bbPXSV
I like the way this guy plays his bass. His stance and presence is unique. I can see why Metallica picked him. It was hard to see Jason replaced, because Jason was so awesome too.
Great story...I am very old skool metal, and was into Suicidal, bay area thrash and knew Muir started this band Infecious grooves, I was blown away by the bass on Violent and Funky, never ever realized it was Robert playing the bass. Insane skills without pick!
ST is a bad ass band! Robert had some bad ass bass lines in Suicidal Tendencies! I saw Metallica and Robert did a tribute to Cliff Burton! Was pretty awesome!
that's sweet I was at that show Austin tx. 1991 Palmer auditorium we knew who Infectous Grooves where at least me and my friends. that's awesome I remember the lights going out in a weird time it wasn't for long the way I remember it. That was sweet me and a buddy went to your tour bus after the show. unfortunately the singer was the only person we saw and he was too hammered to talk coherently I wish I could of met robert
I love, Love, LOVE The Infectious Grooves! And that album, "The Plague That Makes Your Booty Move" , in my opinion, is one of the best albums ever. From start to finish, ever song just kicks ASS and ROCKS! There's not too many albums you can say that about. Maybe a handful. This is definitely one of them.
Great story about OZZY...I bet musicians have a million about the dude. My Dad was in the Pyramids and they opened for the Rolling Stones and my Dad did the exact same thing backstage and cut the power on the Stones.
I was lucky enough to see this tour/show in NYC. Won free tix from Z1480 am radio (crazy good AM radio station which is so bizarre) The seats were right in the front and Infectious Grooves was killer! Ozzy was fab, of course, but holy crap, I miss this guy being the funk master that he was.... Pretty psyched his son is following in Rob's funky footsteps!
Yeah one of my ultimate favorite rockstars... Robert Trujillo ☝️🤟. Very kind, humble, and professional! Great respect to you my idol 💪♥️... and I love Vans as well ♥️♥️
Been wearing Vans since 85' with my first pair being a Hawaiian Slip On with a Parrot ! I just finished recently a 32 days of "shoes of the day" where I wore a different pair of Vans every day!
Trujillo is a beast! I've seen him with Suicidal, Infectious, and Ozzy! I gotta get to a Metallica show! I did see Suicidal open for Metallica back in the mid 90s. All good shows! \m/
I knew he played in ST, IG an Metallica but I didn't know he played in my favourite band Ozzy. Awesome, if it was during ozmosis tour I would have seen him too.
Glad that you enjoyed this video, Michael! Rob is a cool dude and tells the best stories! If you're interested, you can catch other Metallica-related videos here: bit.ly/2ePICdA
I've just always thought it was so god damn cool how this guy was playing on his bass on his bed when he got picked up. Whole life changed man he's a hero. To me as a musician that hard work pays off.
Hell yeah I saw Infectious Grooves at the Powerstation here in Auckland, New Zealand. I can never forget Roberts bass solo that night with him crabbing across the stage. Classic stuff!
I now know Rob Trujillo and I have something in common! Ozzy rules he's my all time favorite singer! My favorite albums from him are, theses are the number one albums, The Ultimate Sin with Jake E. Lee, Phil Soussan, and Randy Castillo, and the second number one album is Down to Earth with Zakk Wylde, Rob Trujillo, and Mike Bordin, and this was a really cool video for me knowing that Rob got to tour with his, and my hero!
Thanks, STOMP! Glad you're as stoked on this as we are. If you enjoyed this clip, you can catch more from our Classic Tales series here: bit.ly/2afns6w
I used to LOVE Infectious Grooves - had so much fun at their shows when they came to town. Ridiculous fun metal-funk from these guys - damn cool to hear him talk about them now. I was hoping he'd talk about his surfing too in this (maybe even some clips of him carving some lines). Still a great story!
Thanks for the comment, leroy! Rob is a really chill, down-to-earth dude who has so many great stories! For more clips like this, feel free to check out our other Classic Tales videos here: bit.ly/2lDZDNN
Glad you enjoyed Rob's story as much as we did, Francisco! He's such a talented musician and cool dude! Feel free to watch more Classic Tales videos here: bit.ly/2fRqsv5
we all knew who you guys were on that ozzy tour....suicidal were well into legendary status way before that, and infectious grooves kicks ass to.....Robert you are a mighty mighty bassman and rock n roll loves you very much.
Saw him play When he was with Ozzy at the Forum in LA...hell of show. When he's not touring he hangs out at Venice watching his son Ty at the skatepark and nobody hassles him
suicidal, ozzy, and metallica.

Robert is definitely one of the great bass players of our time. If you love Robert and Metallica, check out this video of Nathan Fletcher and Kirk Hammett here: bit.ly/2oAEDtE

Scott Patterson I AM AGREE BUT MICHAEL SWEET FROM THE BAND STRYPER IS SWEET TOO 😄🤘🏻⚡️🎸!
With how humble he is , truly reminds me of Brad Delp...
Brian May
Yeah hes up there with dave grohl
"it's okay Robert, Ozzy's so high right now he thought he went temporarily blind"

Snowblind
its a reference to Blind in Texas by WASP..lol
this guy lived his dream ! he's such a humble persone and proficient bass player. Glad metallica picked him up, he's an all around great dude.
Agreed! Robert Trujillo is an incredible guy, to say the least. If you were hyped on this video, you can watch the rest our Classic Tales playlist here: bit.ly/2bbPXSV

He's all those things you said except being in Metallica. He doesn't fit Metallica at all

@monokhem true but I am very happy he's making the money he deserves to make with them. To me, nothing beats the old Infectious Grooves Robert.
I love this guy.Hes a bass mad man.Hes down to earth and a good guy.
We agree with you, ashdoglsu and thanks for watching! Feel free to catch our music playlist here: bit.ly/2c8A7dc
Epic Musician and a totally cool guy =)
ashdoglsu duuuuuude your TH-cam name would be an awesome Turkish metal band name!! \M/
Mike Mason. You tell me what Metallica member is good looking?? None, it's about their music, not their physical looks, but stage presence IMHO.
Metallion 1,968 In my opinion, all of them are beautiful. You wont find them beautiful, because you're a man, I suppose?
Trujillo, aside from being a phenomenal bass player, is a hell of a storyteller. This was enlightening to listen to and a funny story indeed.
Jason Heavner I don't think he's seen your comment. ....
I think he's a decent bass player and the boys from that band Metallica sounds good. They'll get a record deal soon and be famous someday.
I think they passed the audition =P
I don't know, man. I just heard St. Anger and I think they need to hit the garage and practice.... a LOT
jeco F - Metallica will kick some ass just as soon as they get this guy Cliff to play bass with them, he's got some great ideas.
It'll never happen.
:-)
Man, I would watch an entire series about Ozzy's life hahahah. Told by every musician who worked with him.
That is actually a brilliant idea....
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Osbournes It exist! XD
absolutely. And a CARTOON version please
A new Netflix reality show
They’ll definitely talk about him when ozzy passes
Rob's a cool dude.
We think so too! Thanks for watching, Ansdus! Don't miss out on our awesome music playlist, here: bit.ly/2c8A7dc

@Anton Chigurh I do, indeed, and the photos, and the CD they all signed as well
I feel like Rob might be one of the only rock stars to not do drugs.
Widely incorrect
Angus Young, Steve Albini,Poly Styrene, Ian Mackaye, Bruce Springsteen, Kiss,Adam Ant,Morrissey,Frank Zappa,Ted Nugent,Henry Rollins,AFI,Rage Against The Machine all drug free... All big names who changed music without drugs.
Bruce Dickinson, Steve Harris and co, they all are clean and sober guys.
most Rock Stars don't do drugs, there are some, but most don't
It is great to know that
You only hear about the crazy drug stories but for most of those guys it is a lot of hard work, long hours touring.
Robert Trujillo is an amazing bass player. Just listen to his Infectious Grooves work. Outstanding! And very humble to boot. He deserves all the good things that have come his way.

The reason why I am playing this instrument... Thanks to him for bringing me into the bass universe...His style is unique and mesmerizing such a badass bassist I love Rob, he is my hero!!!!

Metal and Skateboarding. My two favorite things.
What an amazing person, I never in a million years would have thought he would replace Jason Newstead.
Great bloke and humble and he plays bass like it's his last day on earth
he's definitely a story teller. Fun to listen to and also funny
I lost my shit when the insane cartoon Ozzy appeared
I remember Infectious Grooves!
Couldn't agree more. It's a masterpiece, and the bass is the killer.
I'd imagine Ozzy saying:
"We drained Texas out of power lads"
Great story about OZZY...I bet musicians have a million about the dude.
My Dad was in the Pyramids and they opened for the Rolling Stones and my Dad did the exact same thing backstage and cut the power on the Stones.
Rob is like the coolest guy ever
I was lucky enough to see this tour/show in NYC. Won free tix from Z1480 am radio (crazy good AM radio station which is so bizarre) The seats were right in the front and Infectious Grooves was killer! Ozzy was fab, of course, but holy crap, I miss this guy being the funk master that he was.... Pretty psyched his son is following in Rob's funky footsteps!
hahaha robert is the best guy ever!
Yeah one of my ultimate favorite rockstars... Robert Trujillo ☝️🤟. Very kind, humble, and professional! Great respect to you my idol 💪♥️... and I love Vans as well ♥️♥️
hilarious, his Ozzy impression!
why is nobody talking about the song they were working on: The plague that makes your booty move ...by the Infectious Grooves? That is very clever
Been wearing Vans since 85' with my first pair being a Hawaiian Slip On with a Parrot ! I just finished recently a 32 days of "shoes of the day" where I wore a different pair of Vans every day!
That's sick, 1thess523! Thanks for being such an awesome fan and supporting us!

Thanks, I'm hoping to get the Toy Story Woody Old Schools for my birthday November 1st if they are still available then!
How old are you? Just curious.
Bruce William I'll be 42 in November
Trujillo is a beast! I've seen him with Suicidal, Infectious, and Ozzy! I gotta get to a Metallica show! I did see Suicidal open for Metallica back in the mid 90s. All good shows! \m/
Infectious Grooves is on the house... Give it up, Give it up, Hey Hey Hey!
I knew he played in ST, IG an Metallica but I didn't know he played in my favourite band Ozzy. Awesome, if it was during ozmosis tour I would have seen him too.
That was cool.
Glad that you enjoyed this video, Michael! Rob is a cool dude and tells the best stories! If you're interested, you can catch other Metallica-related videos here: bit.ly/2ePICdA
Vans ....jason is Metallica's bassist

ROBERT YOU ARE A GREAT PERSON AND A FREAKING AWESOME BASSIST , YOU REALLY MAKE YOUR DREAMS COME TRUE 🤘🏻🎸🎸, NEVER STOP ROCKING ⚡️⚡️⚡️!
can you guys imagine how much fucking fun ozzy had all the time lmfao
I've just always thought it was so god damn cool how this guy was playing on his bass on his bed when he got picked up. Whole life changed man he's a hero. To me as a musician that hard work pays off.
And your one bad ass Bassist my friend!!! We love ya Robert! ^v^ ^v^
Hell yeah I saw Infectious Grooves at the Powerstation here in Auckland, New Zealand. I can never forget Roberts bass solo that night with him crabbing across the stage. Classic stuff!
Sanjay and Craig? Anyone?
MetalGuyMike Hahahaha

Vans Haha, I knew Jay had something to do with the illustrations, haha.
Jay Howell
I now know Rob Trujillo and I have something in common! Ozzy rules he's my all time favorite singer! My favorite albums from him are, theses are the number one albums, The Ultimate Sin with Jake E. Lee, Phil Soussan, and Randy Castillo, and the second number one album is Down to Earth with Zakk Wylde, Rob Trujillo, and Mike Bordin, and this was a really cool video for me knowing that Rob got to tour with his, and my hero!
Rob is the best bass player
Definitely, emilio8381! Hope you're as stoked on this as we are. You can catch more from our Classic Tales series here: bit.ly/2fRqsv5
"You lie, and your Breath Stinks!" Dude, you are awesome in all 3 bands.
Metallica grew up & if they treated Rob like Jason early days they'd have found out Rob could slap hard (not just his bass)
7 fun-incredible years together....❤️ so nice to hear!
Funny story. And then the cartoon of Rob cracks me up.
Can't stop smiling, man that was a great story!
hahaha, awesome story, I wish I had one like that for my children
Thanks Eduardo! As Robert's experience shows, Ozzie was one wild dude! You can get more Classic Tales here: bit.ly/2fYX6Zb

Great story.

Everytime you hear or see this dude, he is really soft spoken and pretty funny. Nice to see a rocker that doesn't seem full of himself

Rob Trujillo, the new master of punchlines. I damn near lost it when he said he tripped over the cables.
Ozzy's best band was:
Zack Wild - guitars
Robert Trujillo - bass
Mike Bordin - drums
Phony Iommi i don't give a shit about you or you stupid comments. go fuck yourself
Phony Iommi i can say the same about you. bitch!

Saw him play When he was with Ozzy at the Forum in LA...hell of show. When he's not touring he hangs out at Venice watching his son Ty at the skatepark and nobody hassles him
