It was very brave choice for the author to start a new arc or season totally different from the previous ones. We ended the last season at the sea. But, here is no sign of our old crew. Yet, the episode captures our attention thoroughly and hype us for more to come.
Well I think isayama started the new arc this way was to say like these guys live in a entirely different world then the one we’ve seen on paradise and just like in season 1
I think i have seen such type of storytelling ,not in animes though

Let me explain the "Situation" and "Timeline" of this episode.
● Situation
First of all, this war is a war between "Marley" and "The Mid-East Alied Forces".
Marley took the lead in battles with other countries because of the power of titan.
So other countries could not easily attack Marley.
However, Marley lost "Female titan" and "Colossal titan" in the Paradis Operation.
So the neighboring countries that saw it judged that Marley's power had weakened, and they formed an alliance to start the war and that's "Mid-East Alied Forces".
And that's why Zeke said, "Our defeat brought about this war."
● Timeline
The war began in 850 shortly after the "Wall Maria Recapture Operation" ended.
And after the "Wall Maria Recapture Operation," the Survey Corps saw the sea only after killing all the titans of Paradis Island for a year.
In other words, it is the first year that Marley fought with the Mid-East Alied Forces when the Survey Corps saw the sea.
And Gabi said, "It's been four years since this war began."
In other words, at the time of the Survey Corps, there is 3 years time skip after seeing the sea.
And I think Eren has 4 years left 😢 (think he’s 19 now although he doesn’t look it and his max age is 23). Don’t spoil me on anything please, thanks 😊
"Ashes on the fire" is one of the best OST i have ever listened to any anime i have ever watched! SO FKIN' GOOD
The thing I like the most in AoT is that when you totally rooting for the team#1, everything suddenly turnes upside down and throws you into the "enemy" camp so you are totally confused who are the bad guys and do they exist in this show at all. Do love it sooo much❤
That's the beauty of AOT. Nothing is ever black and white, constantly shades of grey. That's why I love it.

I know when I was a kid like 14 or smth I ask my sister then who is the bad guy in this story.. because I watched aot at the very young age it's hard for me to understand then when it all cames to me now I think wow this show is so incredible that it makes me feel like it was also part of my life too growing up watching it and learning it. It's just so amazingly well done that how many things that could be portrays in just one show. Although it's take a lot of years to actually completed each season but it's truly amazing how far the story has gone and how it's growing on me or on a lot of people..

This is because the Survey Corps risked everything and took away the titan's power, and the world's technology was already able to kill the titan with a single hit of the cannon.

So Zeke has a bit of power over the mindless titans because of his blood

What I always think is cool, is how they show the falling Titans as weapons which we actually got a glimpse of in the first intro sequence that shows Titans falling from the sky. Isayama is a genius, and seeing as this is really his first anime 🤯
I love how the show totally flipped sides to make the antagonists become protagonists in a way. Also I love the introduction of Gabi as basically the anti-eren on the marley side
While I do agree S3 P2 had peak moments of AOT, for me personally S4 P1 is EASILY the best season so far...

Fun fact, to give Marley a different feel to it the show actually changed composers for this part, it went from Hiroyuki Sawano (who did the first 3 seasons) to Kohta Yamamoto

You made it to season 4! This is going to be a complicated ride, so don’t feel obligated to pick and choose one side. Just take in the story as you progress and enjoy the show :)

Austin with "Chosa Heidan" /Survey corps uniform and Shane with Titan shifters' mark .
This point in the series was an excellent time to get a new animation studio. A massive facelift was coming for all the characters anyway since everyone's appearance was changing pretty drastically with the time skip.

Believe me that even reading this chapter in the manga was confusing as hell lmao. I thought there was an error with the webpage and it was showing me another story instead of AoT. Hell, I almost dropped the story because I couldn't understand anything! But I pushed through and when I got what was going on I returned to re-read this chapter.
I'm so excited. Wit studio did a great job but I honestly like Mappa's style better, plus they are more loyal to the manga so let's go!!!
Remember that Zeke has royal blood through his mother Dina Fritz. Therefore he has access to the paths and it allows him some control over mindless Titans. But great reaction guys!!! This season elavates the themes of AOT to another, mind bending level
You think it's Zeke royal blood that allows him to control some titans and not the Beast Titan's power?
@@crossmodulation9730 Yeah Colt remarks that Zeke is the best Beast titan Marley has had and Mageth remarks that there is something mysterious about Zeke's ability. Plus we know that Zeke hasn't revealed that he has royal blood.

@@andilezulu292 I know, that the reason why his titan mastery is the best is because he has royal blood. But I assumed the spinal fluid of the Beast titan is the one of its powers anyway, so a non-royal user can also use it to some extent.

The song you guys loved so much is called Ashes on the Fire and it`s basically the anthem of the Great Nation of Marley. To me, the scene where this glorious music plays but at the same time we see them using despicable strategies to defeat their enemies seemed to me like a metaphor about propaganda.
Zeke power to effect titans in some way, related to him having royal blood (he's mother is Dina), I wont spoil exactly how it works as the show would explain it to you (also Eren founding titan power is much more crazy then what Zeke have) .
Also yes that's Ymir titan, remember Reiner gave a letter to Hange to give to Historia and she wrote in that letter that she is about to be executed.
Also this episode it was said that the war is going on for 4 years now and later Zeke said that they're loss brought about this war, so since the epic battle in season 3, 4 years have passed.

I think Ymir is just a "Jaw titan," and that titan is a "Jaw titan who gained the ability of hardening ability by drinking it."
I always thought it was a mistake by part of the author that Ymir's titan didn't change much after eating Marcel

And I think both Female titan and Beast titan drank the liquid and gained the hardening ability.
Because "hardening" is a characteristic of the Armored titan.

Marley is the strongest only because of the Titans. Outside of that, they're actually underdevelop, because they've been relying on the Titan's Power for a long time.

Just want to say to enjoy the ride.. all your questions will be answered and more questions will rise just like the rest of the show has been so far. The choice to start this section of the story in a totally new setting with new characters was just as much as a jolt to manga readers as it was for the anime in this episode so don't worry and just enjoy :)

Marley can just fight Paradis Island and win.
However, if they attack Paradise Island and the power of the Founding titan is activated, it cannot be reversed, so they want to take away the power of the Founding titan and attack Paradise Island after eliminating the danger.
It's debatable whether they can win. Paradis has the Colossal Titan.
