    My family grew up on gleaner combines, and we still are using them today. Gleaners are arguably the most underrated combine on the market. Love that 12 row corn head. It’s just eating up that corn. Residue management looks really good. More people need to give gleaner a look. Best combine on the market in my book.

    Looks like they were on the edge of that wind storm that went through last August. Nice to see a harvest video again.

    So Kirkman and Irwin, dang haven’t heard those names in years! Played ball again those towns back in the day. That’s sure a good looking farm and crop he’s busting out there. Love to see more Western Iowa farming footage! Used to farm a bunch all over Pottawattamie and Harrison Counties.

    How did that gleaner run???...losing anything out the back??...the more we look them over the more we like the setup compared to our green ones

      Gleaners get a lot of bad press but they do an awesome job.

      Hands-down the best combine for side land hills. The transverse rotor system on those, really shines on those terrace conditions.

    Hilly country, no problem for the Gleaner all other makes have to have self leveling shoes, not the Gleaner just pore the coals and let her eat. Best combine made.

    Are there choppers on the underside of the corn head? The residue looks so even, I've never seen such a clean field after the combine, then maybe it's the silver monster - that machine didn't slow down once. Great video Mike as always. A great way to start the day!

    • @charleshodgson807
      @charleshodgson807 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Makes more sense to me if the header has choppers underneath ,I know some argue that they take a lot of power ,but then so does a batwing mower afterwards and an extra pass with a heavy tractor,surely when faced with compaction issues it must be a no brained to have this equipment

    Look how flat IA isn't. LOL (I'm from SW IA and get a little tired of all the people that say that IA is flat.) good video

    • @1982MCI
      @1982MCI 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That would be your neighbor just to the west when you cross the river mick. I don’t know where folks get that idea but Iowa is far from flat! There aren’t any mountains but these rolling hills full of corn, beans, wheat , and alfalfa is one of the most beautiful sights I’ve ever seen and it’s constantly changing so you always have a different view unlike living in say the Colorado mountains (which are absolutely gorgeous by the way) but you will basically have the same view 3 months from now that you have today, and I like seeing that change especially on rolling hills!!
      I lived in Oxford, Iowa for many years. Oxford is 8 miles west of Coralville/Iowa City just off of I-80. My home set atop a ridge and was surrounded by 3,000 acres of rolling hills just like these in the video. When I stood on my back deck, the only thing I would see is corn fields just like these and down to my right as I looked at the fields there was a tree line that ran thru the field in the valley where two rolling hills came together and it acted as a waterway but at the end of the field I could see a 50 yard stretch of I-80 and I would use that as an indicator of how bad the roads were in the winter by how fast the truckers were going. I drove to Cedar Rapids for work and my wife would go to the hospital in Iowa City. Her trip usually wasn’t to bad once we made the one mile trip from home to the interstate on the non maintained county road but I-80 was usually pretty good but once I would head north on I-380 to head up to Cedar Rapids it was another story! Lol. They kept I-80 pretty clean because of the hospitals but get away from there a few miles and your thanking the truck engineers for having good four wheel drive designs to put in the trucks cause you were gonna need it!
      Sorry, I got off topic Mick. I love Iowa and miss it something awful! But once you cross the river on the western border, you don’t have to travel too may miles from what I recall before the terrain goes from the rolling hills of Iowa to a flat as a pancake landscape. I wonder if folks are getting us and Nebraska mixed up or what but Iowa is far from flat!!
      Take care mick, be safe out there brother!!

    The terraces, are they for soil erosion ?
