One of my favourite notes is that with Dave if you look at the early message boards discussing his ratings, people claimed he was biased in favour of the WWF, whereas now people claim he’s biased against the WWE. Just interesting.
He's biased towards whatever is cool cause that's his audience. A good portion of his subscribers are there just to hear WWE bad because it's the cool thing to say among marks.
@@ThePhoenix24 yeah i’m talking more about the Western wrestling market. I’ll always agree with Dave on Japan being better overall because in my opinion it just is, especially the Pillars of Heaven and AJPW womens.
I may not take his rating system too serious. But, I have watched a lot of matches because of him. Matches that I wouldn’t have watched if he didn’t give them 5 stars.
The issue with Meltzer is never him as a person, but the fact that his ratings have come to be canonised by certain groups of fans who rely on him for validation. Meltzer, like all of us, has his likes and dislikes and It's not controversial to say that he never connected with TNA on the sentimental level like he did with WWE and AEW and that's reflected in a lot of his ratings for them. That's fine but the wrestling world could do with some advocates for other promotions outside the Meltzer verse.
No, what is the issue is that he is trying to stay relevant and hip to younger fans and wrestlers and he's hitching his wagon to the elite and Aew and shoving it down wrestling fans throats and people aren't buying it
It's also the fact that terrible midcard brawler Jon Moxley has more 5 star Meltzer matches than the entirety of the WWF/E from 1997-2011. That's embarrassing to anyone who has seen both things.
@@mthom0861the first part of your comment and sending part are mutually exclusive. It's he trying to be hip or niche? If no one is buying his AEW hype it sounds like he just is an AEW Fan.
When it comes to Daves match ratings the issue isnt with his ratings. He likes what he likes. The issue is how some people run with the narrative that his match ratings are definitive when they really shouldnt be cause wrestling is subjective. Just cause he doesnt think a match is 5 stars doesnt mean you don't or others dont. People have a hard time coming to terms with that.
Such an incredible interview! Dave is truly a unique and intelligent person. Chris did such a great job expressing his appreciation for Dave while challenging his ratings.
Really loves how Chris was able to touch upon so many topics I wanted someone like Dave to talk about! Meltzer is certainly a very knowledgeable individual and has a clear picture for what he prefers. It's fascinating to heat his opinion on all things wrestling.
I think what I don’t like is the idea that some wrestlers are super concerned about impressing Meltzer and getting a good match rating from him rather than doing their job. I’ve heard countless wrestlers and promoters mention that this was an issue
I've been listening to Uncle Dave and Uncle Alvarez for 8 years now, and I can say that he does really have one of the best minds in the game. And he gets waaaaay too much hate

The interview was perfect. CVV asked the tough questions respectfully, and as much as I hate Dave, I'll respect him for being honest and open about his reasoning.

Man CVV did A GREAT JOB, and tried really, really hard, to cope with Dave Meltzer not buying into the WWE product as much as Chris does. At least Dave admitted that his favorite styles are in NJPW and CCML. CVV prefers WWE, and watching him trying to make Meltzer change his mind about classic WWE matches was brutally hillarious!

Tribalism is one of the things that bothers me about modern wrestling fandom the most. I'm not allowed to like both Rhea Ripley and Toni Storm just because they work for different companies? C'mon now.
You are not old enough if you think it's a new thing. Tribalism to some point is what makes wrestling money. All this sh*t about "you can enjoy all of it" is stupid. How can I who enjoys things like Roman matches where he looks like an absolute beast like anything pockets ever did?
Everything he said a match must have to deserve a 5 star rating the Dudley’s, edge and christian, and hardy boys tlc WM 17 delivered in every way. You never knew where the match was gonna go, you didn’t know who was going to win, they was doing risky things and new moves the entire match and got 4.75. Definitely should have asked about this one
Can't wait for the civilized & open-minded discussions regarding a man's opinion (which he HIMSELF says shouldn't be taken seriously) of certain matches. I'm sure people will not attack his character for not liking a certain style of a certain company in particular.
He took his rating scale and any integrity he had and threw it out the window. When the only person that can get their opinion out without being silenced by appeal to authority is fucking cornette. There's a problem ,when so much of wrestling media treats it like gospel, to paraphrase the man he's admitted lying about and gave a weak ass apology. When he said "WWE will be better once Vince McMahon is dead"? I think the same applies to the whole Wrestling Business, once Dave Meltzer is gone! O think it's more that the peomwho agree with dates opinion take its as something that is factual and get weeid and aggressive towards the ones who don't agree with dave and its also ok for fans to disagree with dates opinion because its an opinion and pro wrestling is suggestive and at the end of the day its a TV show for people's entertainment.

Dave is a super cool guy, you can tell how passionate he is about pro wrestling. He doesn't deserve the hate he gets for just sharing his opinion on matches.
Way I see it, dave is pretty close to zack snyder. Cool person, passionate, may have contrast take on their passion than others in the same subject, got nerfed by the fact both have obnoxious adults whom are stuck in puberty.
So Dave believes his subjective opinion is objective, in a subjectively objective fashion, and that he rates things based on his personal preference, but in a way that considers how crowds react to things in the ring, so long as he doesn't find things too predictable, while also caring about matches doing so much that they limit what people later in the card can do, but less so when it's people he likes personally. Chris, you're a saint.
@@MyChannel-ol1zz If you look closely, I didn't actually say that... much like the man himself, I wrote rambling nonsense that seemingly contradicts itself.
I think people take his ratings more seriously than even he does. Chill out, people! 😅
