Hi Tom, in one of your early videos - Euro Nymhing: Gear Explained - you made note of the fact that you preferred to make your own nymphing leaders as you like leaders with little or no taper to avoid drag during the drift. I now see that you are using SA commercially produced leaders which are tapered and a couple of feet shorter than your original homemade leader formula. Are the SA leaders better constructed and avoid drag to the extent that you use them for 'everyday' fishing and competitions, or do you tie your own for competitions? Also, what brand and colour marker do you use on the tippet?

Two questions I'd love some info on please -
Is that an amplitude trout line or amplitude creek trout line? Its just that the colours match what SA now does in the creek trout and the SA trout is now a sky blue running line with 30' of bamboo then the taper in a dull blue heron.
Also, why have you always chosen an amplitude trout WF 3 line on the recon 4wt rod - why not a trout WF4 line instead ?

Hi, so the line is the SA amplitude smooth trout and I underline for a few reasons, the main one is it flexes my rod tip less so is then more accurate and easier to control when in the air, the line is also thinner which means less drag, lands more gently, has less stick when picked up off the water or mended etc.
