I saw this story before, and decided that maybe the real DCS officer went in for food, then came out and gave her badge and gun to the friend. I also wonder if Quikstop got tired of it and called the cops who pulled the old broken tail light gag in order to catch them.

All this proves is that even a broken clock is right twice a day. He does not deserve praise. He did not go above and beyond his everyday duties.
Post 1960s cops do not deserve repsect, but they do deserve to pick out their own tree for deprivation of rights under the color of law. Any cop that arrests anyone for "unlawful posession of a firearm," or any firearm regulations, or seizes property is infringing on the constitution. Any cop that arrests anyone for drugs, or conducts a military style operation on a person for growing plants is violating the 4th amendment, the posse Comitatus Act, and the judges are violating the 8th, and 14th amendments.
I could go on and on, but bottom line is when cops are raiding churches for "public safety" in the usa for the 1st time ever i think its time to reach down deep and find our 18th century ancestors.

In the small town I worked in, I always dreaded this kind of thing. Even though I didn't live in the town, most everyone knew who I was, and as well, I was young at the time and got along well with most of our kids and high-schoolers, because I liked to interact with the community and let them know me somewhat, especially kids. So one day I might find myself at the local burger joint for lunch, just BS'ing and chatting with some of the kids hanging out there, and the next night I'd be surprised to find a kid I thought was a good, straight-arrow, involved in some hi-jinks. One of the best things about the job is "officer discretion"; you don't necessarily HAVE to write/charge/arrest every subject you encounter. Some things are not that serious even though unlawful, and there were times when I cut someone a break because they did what they did but in a way that ensured no one would be hurt. For example, a party in woods with teens drinking, but one sober person had been given all the car keys and was charged with making sure no one wandered off. I could give them a criminal record, but I could also reward them for being conscious of protecting the community the way they did. We also have a lot of latitude with the prosecutors, who were always glad to listen to us and often agreed to offer someone probation and a clear record after a year or something like that. One of the best compliments I ever had was when someone told me that I had a reputation of being "...kinda strict, but FAIR". Which is exactly where I was aiming to be. And for the very most part, the respect I treated the people with was returned to me even when we were meeting as a cop and a suspect. Of course, there were sometimes the case where someone you knew and actually liked stepped too far across the line and they just flat needed to go to jail. I got a little off-topic here, but I never did happen across a situation where I might have to arrest a fellow cop, but I always dreaded the possibility. If I had to, I would have, but I would have felt pretty bad. The closest I ever came was stopping another officer's wife for speeding, (not a terrible amount), and I figured out who she was from her name and address. She did not try to buy freedom by name-dropping, she just kept played it straight. But, knowing who she was, I just came back and gave her a warning, (happens way, way, way more than you probably think, cop or not), and sent her on her way with a "And tell Ron I said hi, haha". And the next day, I had a big bag of homemade cookies in my inbox. =) Turns out that was a tradition around those parts, lol.

I don't think a cops word should be enough to convict, but it's enough to investigate. And upon talking to the guy for a few minutes he straight up admitted to driving the truck home. Even though he denied being the one who was seen driving it around town beforehand, it doesn't matter at that point. This is why you keep your mouth shut and ask for a lawyer.
