The cops conducted themselves well by remaining calm and not agitating the guy by slamming him into the ground, at the time they had no idea she had died from natural causes and for all they know they could have been dealing with a murderer. The guy is clearly unwell and its a sad story all around.

Kind of relieving to see some good cops - even though they seem to be rare in the States - and not those morons that start screaming instantly and get extremely violent.

Cops typically display aggression only when there are perceived threats or when their authority is being challenged.
This man is so docile that it's frankly not a great example of cops showing professionalism or remaining calm.
I fully understand that your comment is triggered by the back knowledge of errant cops, but one won't praise a cop for remaining calm in this situation, just like how we won't praise people for not kicking street dogs they passed by.

@@kevinlutz5994 May sound obvious to you, but you can't know his circumstances. He had a no contact order before, maybe he found her dead, was in like a shock, tried to just push it away in his head (it's still his mom who died), then later realised if he reports her death now (day(s) later) he would be accused of killing her because he had the no contact order before which makes him very suspicious so he was afraid to report it. Some people are also not very smart and he was staying there alone, doesn't even have a phone, so I don't think it's very unrealistic that he did talk himself in this situation. Every scenario should be checked before making quick assumptions and maybe putting a man in prison for life who's mom was killed by someone else. That would be horrible.

Okay armchair detective. So you're saying he lived in a tent, but then broke into the house, ignored the body and the smell and slept in there. I'm not saying he did it, and there's probably an entire list of suspects, and it's possible that he was just desperate for somewhere to stay, but no, not "just to be clear" and then throwing around verdicts that never took place. If you actually watched the video, at the end it literally says the investigation is on-going and at this time the only charge is "failure to report."

In 1987 there was a terrible heat wave in southern Indiana. Over 100 degrees for days in a row and extremely humid , as southern Indiana tends to be in summer. I kept noticing a bad smell around my back yard near a row of trailers that some of our neighbors lived in but couldn't figure out what it may be. I was 13 years old living with my parents and I mentioned it to my Dad . He'd been in WW2 on those islands in the Pacific Ocean and he knew exactly what a dead person decomposing in the heat smelled like. He didn't say anything about what it was when we walked back there but he told me to stay away from there and went back in our house and the cops were there about 10 minutes later, followed by the coroner soon after. The elderly couple in the trailer nearest to our house had apparently both died from the heat days earlier. They weren't particularly neighborly or friendly so nobody noticed they weren't stirring and they were there for days apparently.

Hopefully they found ways to cope with it. Police who can't handle similarly stressful situations probably shouldn't be doing welfare checks let alone carrying deadly weapons with a duty to use them if required to. Lots of people die and are discovered by police during welfare checks. A murder victim and someone who died of natural causes tends to look quite similar after a few days in summer-like heat. If you live home alone after retiring, there's a good chance, you'll end up found in a similar way. Chances are just a lot higher that you'd die of natural causes since murder and manslaughter are extremely rare.

I have commented before, most of the time you say the wrong year. This time you said May 2022 and this just happened in May of 2023 a few months ago. I have seen the original, and they haven't charged him with murder until they get the toxicology back and if there are any trauma as well. He's not a good guy. She let him come back only if he slept in that tent. I would bet on it, he might be the reason the doors broken off. She was obviously scared of him, and there's no one who wouldn't notice the smell of death and the way she would look. They were there originally for a welfare check on her, because her sister couldn't get ahold of her for days.

It is likely because the coroner determined her death was natural or caused by a heart attack. If she did not have any blunt force trauma or any kind of fatal wound it is likely having to be determined as a natural death. My guess would be to find the story and research any updates
