You always make the places look so good. I try to make my place look like how you do it and I don’t know how I go to the store and I get overwhelmed 😭 to much options
Day late here, but in case anyone would like any further tips, this is what I do; #1. Keep everything very clean and uncluttered. #2. Fresh air and a signature scent around the home. #3. All white Egyptian cotton towels and bed linen. # 4. Beautiful vases of fresh flowers. #5. Dinner sets(plates, bowls etc) that match. Also good quality cutlery, glasses and coffee mugs that match. #6. Beautiful lighting. #7. One large vintage art piece for the sittingroom. #8. Have a coffee grinder and coffee percolator. #9. Not too much detail, keep the spaces calm. Also, you don't have to follow every trend. #10. Keep the outside of your home in excellent condition because this is your guests' first impression of your home, so make sure that your windows are cleaned, your front door freshly painted, your front lawn neatly mown and your garden in good condition. I hope that these tips help someone.❤
Been watching you since 2020, and not kidding you're my comfort youtuber. I also managed to build good habits and bring it together majorly due to the inspiration I get from you, thank YOU Kristen! Your videos do make a difference in people's lives 👏💫💕 Much love!
I like the minimalist look, but it's near impossible to achieve with 2 young children and both working 40 hour weeks. I'd love some tips on styling around toys/kid clutter, and tips on maintaining the look when you're on a time budget!
I struggle with this too. After a few of my favorite bloggers started having kids, they've mostly recommended 3 things: 1. Dual purpose storage furniture (like a side table with drawers, or a storage ottoman for a coffee table, or a tv stand with cubbies). 2. Baskets to corral toys (a large floor basket with a lid, or 3 baskets in a row on a bookshelf). and 3. It's counterintuitive, but you should store their toys that are in the family space in neutral furniture, baskets and bins instead of colorful kids storage. Essentially, when a visitor looks in a bin or drawer, or cabinet, they should be surprised to find toys. That has really helped me minimize the child daycare look I had going on, lol. For their room and play room, look up Megan at The Homes I Have Made blog. She has really great ideas.
Only have out one furniture peice for toys at a time. The rest of the toys should be stored out of reach. It seems like a lot of work at first but once you get the hang of it the house is much cleaner and it lasts for years to come. I used a cube storage to set my limit for how many toys can be out. And no bright colored baskets, white or beige
Great tips, ladies! Thanks! 😊 My home is an endless mess, no matter how many times we clean (5 kids, 3 of them are under 4 years old). Looks like the patience is an important virtue at the moment. 😅
Hello! I can understand. Raised three kids! My best tip: less, less, less. Less inventory is always less to clean and manage. You would be surprised how much we actually don’t need. All the best! ❤
My towels were already like that.My large vase and arrangement needing decanting, cleaning and refreshing.I shall do so,tonight. I need pattern,in the form of a statement rug, with art pieces which tie in with it. Plus, cushions and, throws and more candles, ate on my To Buy list. Top of the lust,as always. Thank you.
I adore your channel. Positive and informative but without degrading anyone thing. Also your make up is on point- it’s perfect, pulled together, and not over done! Bravo 👏👏👏
I've had a runner in front of my Master Vanity for years! It's the only thing that makes sense when you have this long Vanity + Two Sinks! I'm glad to know I'm still "right on trend"! 😁 😀😄😆
I love this video. Thank you for just getting items at Walmart. I don't do much decorating these days since we went minimal; however, people always ask where I get certain items. Many times these items are from Walmart. I just present it in a minimal elegant way.
I am definitely not a minimalist. I love displaying interesting and beautiful pottery, brass items, Buddhas, and I love color. I love all the modern wallpaper that is available now. It's so hard to chose just one.
My idea of a nice & cosy evening is cuddling up on my sofa with the lights all turned off and sipping on my hot cup of coffee looking at Kristen Mc Gowan videos.Kristen you are a perfect role model & fabulous interior designer 😙
The tv hack is genius, I have already looked at the options. Thank you for this as we have our tv of the fireplace and have no where else for it to go. Love that the days I just don’t want to be looking at the black screen I have options to suit my mood.
So excited to see your channel explode! I got hooked when you were redecorating your parents place. You always manage to bring out the best in any space. Thanks for all you do!
For floral arrangement: if you get outdoor branches, do you need to spray twigs and leaves for insects or do some sort of cleaning or bug prevention before bringing into house and putting in vases. Thank u for informative video
I am somewhere between Minimal and layered decor. It isnt crazy overly decorated but I take minimal and add one more thing. And I love color so None of my walls are white, gray or taupe.
What a lovely detail on those rolled towels! I'm going to try this ASAP. My main floor bath is also the guest bath. I've wondered what to do on top of the toilet tank lid. There is a cabinet for this bathroom's users to keep toiletries in (including an outlet in the cabinet for the electric toothbrush). But if I don't put something on the toilet tank lid, cluttery little somethings will accumulate there. Voila - towels! I'm going to look for a pretty shallow rectangular/oval basket and pile it with rolled extra hand towels, and add a candle or small plant to the basket, too. Kristen, your tips are always so practical. I get new ideas every time I watch you. Thanks!
I enjoyed all the ideas, but the vintage TV one was my favorite! I paused your video, went into another room and tuned my TV to the station, picked a style, and was stunned. Thanks !! Great tip ❤
Nice! I am glad you found this. I recently uploaded couple more relaxing/famous paintings that work well with most rooms. Could you see if they work for you? 😉
Discovered your channel by accident recently. Wow, you really deliver inspiration for those like me who want to improve a living space but don't necessarily know where to begin. Your explanations are clear, sensitive, and professional. Thanks for being a resource on a number of topics related to upgrades and makeovers.
Hi Kristen. This old(er) gal is enjoying your posts. I’m currently painting out my Second kitchen. Did my other house 4 years ago to get it ready to sell, then replaced the pulls, countertops, sink, etc. Night and Day results. Although my current uppers have that “ Colonial” arch at the top, they are high quality solid oak, and I can’t afford to replace them. Sand, prime, two or three coats of Benjamin Moore Advance in Silver Satin (a lovely white with a silver undertone) from that ugly, orange-ee stain (ugh), and new pulls. Unbelievable difference, and a DIY that anyone with a bit of patience can achieve. Love all your tips and tricks on a budget. That towel roll demo was awesome. Thanks.
I am going to try a runner in the bathroom. It def looks better than mats! Also I love minimal looks but layers are cozy and preferable if I’m in a cold climate .
I love all these recommendations. I’ve been waiting to pull the trigger on some patterned wallpaper! What are some resources you would recommend that we look at for inspiration? Arch digest, etc?
I have a large dining room table with three small potted plants (various heights) as a centerpiece. I'm going to remove them and put one large vase with the large greenery instead for more of a statement! And I need to update some light fixtures.
I love the minimalist look because it's so easy to keep clean, but I am struggling to add some character. Your channel is giving me some ideas. Thank you!
My concerns about candles are, they create grey soot on especially white towels, bedding, furniture etc. So I’m not one who likes to light up candles 🕯 for those reasons. Makes everything grey and I don’t like to inhale it either. I fully agree with you, less seems more intentional. I love minimalism meets contemporary modern 😜
Your videos are so inspiring and helpful. Every time I feel myself becoming overwhelmed with the thought of over spending to decorate my home, your videos provide me with peace, reassurance, and inspiration. You mention things I wouldn't of thought about with such grace! Thanks girl ❤
My goodness Kristen! I have just nipped onto you tube and found that tv art, I never knew anything about it, absolutely brilliant, thank you thank you thank you!
Love everything you share! To answer your Q's, I am a recovering bohemian with a strong tendency to minimalist 💕 and the towel fold technique is brilliant! Cheers!
Love minimalism! I also get inspiration from accommodation websites in South Africa. Love a clean, open and well designed space! Thank you for another great video, Kristen
Oh my goodness, I didn't know those art videos existed!?! I just found one on TH-cam that calls it a screensaver and is 4 hours long! Definitely awesome for a dinner party, there were others with classic music, but this one kept the same picture up for a couple of minutes. Beautiful! Thanks Kristen!
Love your ideas and videos! My half bath has a sloped wall over the toilet and the toilet faces the mirror. Can you recommend what I should do behind the toilet? Not sure how to play/design!
I like the last idea best along with “ old orange stained hollow doors from the 50’s homes. This is my goal for 2022- painting and adding trim as well as new door knobs. Will do so much for our home. Thank you.
Kristen , I love layering , antiques and colours ! Greens , Fuchsia , Blue , soft creamed Yellows , those colours are my favourites ! Maybe one day you like to do something with that too ? I know that’s not you style but I would love to see some of that on your videos ? 💕👍
I really love the runner rug in bathroom. Can you give tips or decorate a large open living space. We have a 22 mtr by 7 mtr area with floor to ceiling geometric square windows on the northern end which is our sunny end in Southern Hemisphere. Pretty much, kitchen, dining, lounge, fireplace.
Your videos are awesome! I really like the large rugs you have in many of the videos...is there a store in particular that you think has the best value? Those big rugs can be spendy but are super cool! :)

I Literally paused the video after watching the towel part and I went to reroll every towel in my home. You changed my life lol
Hahahhah
Thank you for sharing your vision of light, brightness, natural elements, simplicity and cohesiveness. God bless you!
I love minimalism. Chic and not cluttered with everything you think you like.
I like minimal decor!!!! I am glad that it looks more high-end because it is so much easier to clean!!!
agree!
I used to have "stuff". As I get older I want less and less. Love your tips

I like the runner in the bathroom idea. I noticed cute ones on Wayfair that were indoor/outdoor so it wouldn't matter if it got wet.
