    I was an Audi guy. I got the Ute version of this Redline and love it. 12 liters per 100 as well.

    To my Australian brothers, Thanks for making these great Holden Commodores. Sorry to tell you that all the presses, welding and ancillary machines have now been shipped from your Holden factory in Elizabeth SA to our GM Detroit/Hamtramck Assembly where the new Chevy SS will be built in 2021 with a minor cosmetic makeover from the 2017 model which was built in Australia. In years to come it is possible that these amazing cars will be exported back to Australia from the USA. How mixed up is this? I have driven the Chevy SS and I believe it to be the best 4 door car ever built in the world with its 415hp LS3 V8. Take care.., David Matherson

    Agreed! This is an outstanding vehicle for the price. I have the 2017 Chevy SS version and will never sell it. Perfect Jekyll and Hyde persona that you mentioned. Luxurious and comfortable for people hauling but a glorious beast when you choose to “light the wick”.

  • @MuttnikSS6
    @MuttnikSS6 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I can confirm the Jekyll and Hyde nature. Just completed a long road trip which included one leg of over 1200 km on what we optimistically call highways and some C roads in wet weather.
    The best fuel reading was 8.2 L per 100 k’s and there was fun to be had along the way. Totally made for Australian conditions. Hard to enjoy a 2000 km road trip in many other cars.

    Oz, thank you for my Holden Commodore VF(Chevy SS) in the US! And also thank for the Commodore VE (Pontiac G8 GT) amazing well thought out cars. I get sad every time I turn off the engine and will be sad when the plant closes.

      We had an awesome time driving the Chevrolet SS in Cali, which you can find on this channel. Interesting to experience an Australian car on the other side of the world. These cars will be missed.

    I purchased the SS VF 6.2. I've had a few V8s. Mainly old school Holdens and Fords. This thing is an animal. Jekyll and Hyde. The sound it makes when you open it up. Think Nascar. Yet drive it with the lightest throttle, no drone almost silent. No Hwy drone. Silent when you want, noise when you want. But now you have noise and the move :):):):):)

    Great review, I have the older 6.0ltr version, while the engine is a bit smaller the great trade off is with a good aftermarket exhaust system and tune it sounds just as good, (if not better), it is produces a little bit more power, but still has better fuel economy, however I would love the update brake package.
    I must say though, Holden has saved the best to last in the VF Commodores and it will be extremely sad to see them finish up, but I myself, will hang on to my very first and last Brand New Car, I will say it was well worth every penny borrowed.
    I will say if you do go out and buy one, (which you should), you won't regret it, ever!, just make sure you order a manual!

    • @randallk2556
      @randallk2556 ปีที่แล้ว

      I doubt it sounds better or performs better than the 6.2 sorry mate but I’m sure it’s still a great car congratulations
      It’s like comparing a dog turd to a piece of pure platinum, coating the dog turd in platinum and then telling everyone else it’s the same as the piece of pure platinum if not better but deep down you know underneath the fine layer of platinum is pure dog shit
      The only reason I say this is because your car has the cylinder deactivation technology which is essence turns a nice v8 into straight up dog poo 💩
      If you are concerned about things like fuel consumption you’re better off with a hybrid Camry

    I have a VF Calais V V8 which is great. Greater still is that I can run E85 Ethanol fuel in it which equates to 107 octane instead of 98 octane available in Premium Petrol. A shame they got rid of this in the VF series 2. Gives a massive power punch!

    • @chasingcars
      @chasingcars  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the Calais V is all the car anybody needs

  • @kingfisher111

    But why is this happening? Any replacements? Pls share such details aswell.

    • @chasingcars
      @chasingcars  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Long story, but Australian car manufacturing is shutting down because of high costs and difficulty in reducing losses. Sadly, this VF Commodore will no longer be built after 2017 because of this.

    • @chasingcars
      @chasingcars  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, on the replacement question - the next Commodore will be a version of the German Opel Insignia, which comes in a performance VXR version. Here are my thoughts on that car: th-cam.com/video/AXQXeD2cr-A/w-d-xo.html

    • @djizzah
      @djizzah 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Who wants to spend three times as much money fuel a week for this compared to your average small Japanese or Korean car which has a purchase price almost a third of this as well, that's the reason this dinosaur became extinct

    • @chasingcars
      @chasingcars  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I tend to agree Nick, the reality is that even small Euro performance cars (Golf R, A45 AMG etc) drink fuel like it's going out of style when you're on them. Unfortunately it's just not possible for Australia to build great cars like the VF if we can't get export deals. Very sad to lose them.

    • @Nintendoguy5794
      @Nintendoguy5794 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Anything with performance intent will drink fuel when you give them a boot, I was still very surprised by the fuel economy of my FG MK2 Xr6 turbo though. I average 11L/100kms as my daily driver which actually astounded me considering the power to weight ratio is not much lower than the likes of a first generation R35 Nissan GTR(considered a supercar by most). The fuel economy is even lower than my previous car, a Toyota Celica GT4 with the 2L turbo 3sgte. I think a lot of people miss the point of Australian performance cars, they are never the best in their class but in terms of bang for your buck you can't go wrong, especially in the used market.

      I'm happy to hear that! What spec did you go for?

    • @Lanithify
      @Lanithify 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I bought the base model SS ute in white.
      The seats could really do with some extra bolstering. They don't hold you in enough when you're on spirited drives. Track days you're hanging onto the steering wheel for dear life and you find muscles you never thought you had the next day!
      I've heard people complain about flat bottom steering wheels, I think they're a good idea. The base model is round all the way and your legs hit the bottom of it getting in and out, if it were flat my legs would miss it. It's not just a gimmick, it's a functional design feature.
      Worst part of the whole car is the electronic hand brake....

    Don't be fooled. for all their technical advancements It's business as
    usual with these Commodores After dropping the best part of 60K on a
    brand 'NEW' Redline that has yet to clock 5.000k's, it has developed a
    massive engine oil leak , leaves a foot round oil leak on the drive
    over night .
    Another trip back to the dealer for some 'Shit Happens' attitude.
    Thought buying a new car would give me a break from this sort of crap at
    least for a couple of years :-(
