    Boeing 747 by far the prettiest, A380 for comfort by a mile, if you were to ask me which of the two I would fly in an Ultra Long Haul 15 hour flight give me the A380, if you were to ask me which one I would fly for the experience give me the 747.

      You probably should add “flying in business/ first class” because to me, the economy experience is about the same… heck it was worse on A380 because of boarding the plane is a nightmare (got to stand in the line or risk running out of bin space)

    There's a reason the 777X is around the size of the 747. That's because that's as big as you'll ever need for passenger service, you'll never need bigger, nor would you want it due to most airport infrastructure. Passengers love the A380, but it just doesn't work in the real world, unless you build around it, like Emirates did, and even then, I think the 777-10X would work better for them, if it's ever built.

    • @anhminho6115
      @anhminho6115 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the 777-10 is really about to be featured in the future, I think it’ll be in a same position as 787-10 now as airlines now do not prefer something that is too big anymore, but focusing about something more efficient

      Flown in both, but I have to say the passenger experience in economy is the same on board, and worse for A380 in regards to boarding and deplane… I stood more than 20 minutes in line before boarding because people are lining up trying to get bin space…

      The biggest shortcoming of the A380 seems to be not having planned a viable way to support freight from the beginning.
      I remember seeing videos early pandemic where they were using a A380 for freight by placing packages on the seats.
      I wonder if a shortage of pilots over the next 10 years might reverse some of the smaller planes desirability be airlines.

    You must remember the 747 was designed as a freighter FIRST (for the USAF actually) with passengers an afterthought. That's why the cockpit is so high to allow a "flip up" nose. While the 380 opted for a "double bubble" pressurised cabin that made freight capacity impossible. That means the 380 can easily fit more passengers in the same space as the 747 and also makes a future stretch easy (which the wings and landing gear are overengineered to allow for). But the big downside is that old 380s can only go to scrap, which really matters for depreciation and hence Total Cost of Ownership.

    A380 is short compared to its width and height. This means it needs a large vertical stabilizer. All that translates into frumpy proportions.
    747 looks faster and more elegant. (Their cruising speed is the same but I'm referring to the looks).

    • @AaronShenghao
      @AaronShenghao ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually, the 747-8 do have a faster cruising speed. But for economic reasons airlines won’t push the plane that hard.

  • @Cynsham
    @Cynsham ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Boeing’s design philosophy of making the 747 effective for both passenger and cargo operation has been the reason it has been in active production and service for over 50 years. In terms of passenger comfort the A380 is obviously better, but the A380 was purpose built for passenger flights and therefore it’s not a good freighter, significantly contributing to how short its production run has been compared to the 747. A380 wins for passenger travel, but the 747 always wins in my heart.

    Another thing in favour of the 747-8i is likely parts availability. The engines are the same ones used on 787 Dreamliners and the airframe is based on the tried and tested 747-400. Regardless, being an avgeek in 2023, put me on either and I'll be a kid in a candy store. However, I fear the A380 in recent years has become overhyped. The flying public in recent years referred to it as, "the most comfortable","the best" and "unparalleled". I just came off an A350 flight, it was a very smooth ride and the cabin was spacious and quiet, all the things the A380 receives praise for, but the superjumbo seems to garner that next level of affection. People were literally in celebration mode whenever airlines brought back the type in recent times. Being the biggest definitely has some wow factor to it and Emirates has done a great job marketing what the A380 can be like, but damn, the hype is like nothing I've ever seen before. I haven't been on an A380 in a while, but I will do so this Dec, I'm looking forward to seeing if all that I've heard is true.

      The 388 can get into any airport a 748 can but not all airports are optimised for it (Double airbridge access).
      EDIT: My bad, it can land at most airports but it cant taxi at all airports, however this doesn't seem to be much of an issue for the operators.

    I like that A380 it’s huge!
    My favorite would be the
    Boeing 777X and Boeing 727.
    I like the 777X because it’s equipped with the powerful General Electric GE9X Turbofan. Largest on any aircraft. Making it possible to go from 4 to 2 engines on a jumbo jet.
    I like the old school 727 because it was the fastest of any Boeing passenger jet. I love the tri-star engine configuration. So futuristic for its time.

    I wouldn’t say Boeing 747 by far prettiest. Both 747 and 380 can not compare as Apple vs Apple. Both different era. 747 hasn’t really did major update. 380 born recently. 380 is full double decker plane, more space even in economy class.
    Both has pro and cons. But for now, I just feel better to travel 380. It’s quiet, faster, more space. But if airline doesn’t has 380, I would still wanna travel 747.

    The 747 will always be the queen of the skies and will more than likely still be flying long after the A380 has been retired, The A380 might have had a chance but it was 35 years late , for sure Airbus's biggest flop, and just to clarify I'm not bias to Boeing because the A350 is way better than the 787 Dreamliner.

    Another area to consider is airport availability. Airports had to invest a lot into infrastructure to support the A380 (larger gates, wider runways and taxiways), beyond what was required for the 747.
    Therefore, the 747 has a wider number of airports it can fly to, like Glasgow or Edinburgh, despite being on remote stands, or Stansted, for freight.
