Linux sound has finally caught up to the point where professional low latency sound is as easy as any other OS to configure. Combine that with the fact we can run windows executables as well as windows in most cases, no brainer. I won't say GIMP has feature parity with Photoshop but I will say between krita and GIMP there is yet to be a thing that isn't pretty easy to do, ime. The large majority of people have an OS so they can have a browser, let's be real.
Hyprland HDR is janky as hell rn but I got it to work on NixOS using the Hyprland flake to build from source. Unfortunately now the problem isn't Hyprland but the fact that there are about 3 programs that actually support HDR. Firefox has HDR support in the pipeline which is neat.

I don't like how gnome-ey cosmic is, but I do use comic files, I really like dolphin but I don't use other kde apps and it brings in A LOT of kde dependencies, haven't had much luck with thunar but cosmic files is quite self contained (6 dependencies, 5 of which are very very common libs), and I like that. Unfortunately, hyprland has started including some qt dependencies now though :(

It has only gotten worse over the years as they laid off their actually skilled programmers in the name of importing much cheaper mediocre at best ones while claiming there is a shortage of programmers even though they just had to get rid of the skilled ones. The day Microsoft got on the Kernel Foundation's board and woke took over, I knew Linux was going to go downhill and it has. For example, multiple times people who shouldn't dictate things have. Wayland's adoption way too early was a result of this. Pipewire's adoption too early, same thing. The forced adoption of things like AppImages and other executable formats by distros is one as well. Which on that note, the whole reason why they are being forced is because the people Canonical and Red Hat have hired to maintain the repos weren't hired based on merit and whined about how hard it was for them to do the jobs they were hired for. Linux needs to go back to a meritocracy.
