It came out in 1978, the year I started college. It was hilarious. It's just so imaginative and funny. Doug Metcalf....."fraternity Pin!" Neidermeyer was so great. AH was and is the funniest movie in the National Lampoon collection. Yes, those Chevy Chase Vacarion movies made lots of money but Chevy Chase comedy is just too stupid for me. It is very difficult to even get me to crack a smile to most comedies and Chevy Chase is about as funny as a colonoscopy exam with a plumber's snake.
Right before the movie came out the Lampoon had that GREAT MIDDLE FINGER picture of the whole cast captioned something like" All those who are gonna see this movie raise your hand" I knew I WAS GOING TO LOVE IT!
I'm 62 years old now and I still quote lines from this movie. I was in high school when this movie came out. I remember going to toga parties inspired by this.
1978. I was a junior in high school. I remember using my dad's car to take my date to the theater to see this movie. Hard to believe that was 44 years ago.
This is a serious trip down nostalgia lane for me, as I was attending the University of Oregon as an undergraduate when it was filmed there. I saw Belushi filming a scene in the Erb Memorial Union. I attended classes in some of the lecture halls used for scenes, most prominent of which was the "courtroom scene" featuring the coughing fit.
This was one of the first R-rated movies I ever saw, back in the early 80s. Belushi was a riot, without question. D-Day was great, and how much he looked like Freddie Mercury (from Queen) was uncanny. Most notably, this was the screen debut of Kevin Bacon. This is an unforgettable classic to me! Have it on DVD and when I need a good laugh, this is my turn-to, as well as others.
Bruce McGill is a well-known character actor, appearing in several films and TV shows (he was "the bartender" in Scott Bakula's "Quantum Leap" 2-part finale, was in "My Cousin Vinnie" and "Recount", just to name a few)...
He was the most well known actor in the cast. He was offered $30k for the role or a lesser salary and royalties. He chose the $30k. Not a good long term financial move.
@@edgein3299 Yes, I know but that doesn't change the fact that he was in the original MASH movie does it? That really was what made him the most well known actor in the cast, yet it was not mentioned.
what i really love him outside the film as he's one of my favorite actors of all time is that during the making of it when Karen Allen came out wearing no pants she did not want to do that at all so to make her comfortable Sutherland walks out completely nude and it worked however what makes it really funny is that was NEVER suppose to even be in the film. he had no idea they were even shooting that and i don't think he sued or anything but it's still funny.
Donald Sutherland also appeared in an episode of “The Avengers” along with Charlotte Rampling in 1965 right before he appeared in “The Dirty Dozen” with Lee Marvin and Charles Bronson.
Karen Allen went on to play one of the greatest female roles in Marion Ravenwood in one of the greatest movies of all time in Raiders of the Lost Ark and even got her own theme!! Her character is legendary!
Bruce McGill (D-Day) was also in what is largeley considered to be the best episode of Miami Vice, Out Where The Buses Don't Run. He gives both Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas a run for their careers, both in script and onscreen! If you haven't seen it, you're missing out!
I remember being in a movie theater in downtown London, England 1978. The movie was Animal House . The audience's reaction was so emotional there was almost riot . The laughing was so loud it became hard to hear the dialog.
One of my favorite movies 😂😂 I was thinking about Belushi in 1941, he played a pilot flying over Los Angeles after the Pearl Harbor attack. Funny as hell😂😂😂❤
I LOVED Crossing Delancy. It's one of those films that everyone I know have not seen, and yet, when I recommend a good comedy from the 80's to my friends, they have all enjoyed it.
Few casts had such talent. Virtually all major cast went on to big careers, or already had good careers. Animal House is what I thought college was supposed to be - and my experience was very similar😂
My Man !!!!! Hey Arthur Dent ZB , I hope you had one hell of a great time while in College 😁 . For what it's worth , I've heard some people say that there are some colleges that were just like John Belushi's Animal House . Not all , but some !!!! And to all those actors and actresses from Animal House who have since passed away ..... May they all ; Rest In Peace 🥹🙏 .
Bruce McGill (D-DAY) has done a LOT of legitimate theater and had a good role in Spielberg's 2012 film "Lincoln "; I think he was the guy who said "Now he belongs to the ages" near the end.
Delta Upsilon, 18th & University in Eugene was a hoot in '66. Toga on! BTW, there was a good looking guy there, with a Corvette named Doug Zenor, just like "Otter" character. It wasn't the real Delta House, that frat was about 8 blocks away. Very cool time.
i don't blame you i'm 45 next month but i was watching this at age 10 and i am not sure if i saw it younger than that i don't think i was but i remember thinking when Boon i think it was? it's been awhile since i last watched it and she goes i'm only 13 and i remember thinking that's not that much older than me
@Seviperman I kind of thought he might have, poor guy. Elliot Smith tried to off himself in a similar manner, but it didn’t take. He was successful in a far more gruesome manner. Like “Stork,” Smith suffered from drug issues. Also manic depressive. Such gifted souls.
I was a student walking on campus one evening when they were making this film. I noticed a group of 25-30 young people being held back by 3 or 4 older folks with their arms outstretched holding them back. As I turned my head a little farther to my left to see what they were being held back from - there he was. John Belushi was on the side walk of the street that I was crossing about 25 feet away from me. He stopped for a few seconds to look at me and just sort of grunted and moved on. My guess is that he was trying to get into his Bluto character that evening and a group other college kids started following him around and were being held back from him by his entourage. That 1977-78 school year was quite a year...
I went to the U Of oregon where it was filmed in 1986 just 8 years after animal house came out - I was in a sorority and partied in the Kappa Sigma basement which is where the frat party scenes were flmed! Not much had changed at the time and it was like walking around in animal house all the time at school!
Nicely done! Whenever I see Animal House on, I have to stop and watch. But favorite of all the films the cast was in outside of Animal House? It's sorta weird, and you didn't list it, but the 1979 movie Dreamer with Tim Matheson is probably my favorite. Idiot critics called this a bowling version of "Rocky", but it wasn't. It was just a guy trying to keep his relationships together and have some fun along the way, while also getting to be a professional bowler. What can I say, I was into bowling as a kid. I probably should get back into it. Anyways great video!
Without a doubt, the three most successful actors from NLAH are Donald Sutherland, Kevin Bacon, and Karen Allen, with honorable mentions to Tom Hulce and John Vernon. (Also, thanks for posting a recent photo of Lisa Baur. She was easily the most gorgeous woman in the film, and she is still attractive!!)
Mark Metcalf also owes a restaurant in suburban Milwaukee, Libby Montana. I called there once to reserve a room for a work event and he answered the phone. The voice was unmistakable. He and director, John Landis were at a screening of Animal House at the Oriental Theater in Milwaukee in about 2002, where he gave us a great “Is that a pledge pin on your uniform?!”

STORK! "What the hell we SPOSED ta do ya moron!" Cool factoid....Stork was one of the writers of Animal House. John Landis wanted to have him there during the filming. The money people said NO. They were concerned about cost overruns and wanted to keep it LOW budget. So Landis in a stroke of genius gave him the part of STORK, then ensured that he'd have a SPEAKING ROLE which would guarantee him payment for the movie. So Landis got Stork there to assist in the making of the film anyway. And Stork is now a character that will live forever, as will his famous quote. So sad to see that he crapped out at such a young age. That SUCKS.
A friend of my brother's had a house and business on Martha's Vineyard and Belushi spent his summers there. He would be in a bar, sitting by himself and then would jump up and yell, "I'm John Belushi!" People would send over drinks and turn him on to grams of coke. It was quite a status thing to say you did that, or even better to have done some lines with him. A lot of the SNL cast spent their summers on MV and my brother's friend sucked up to them and gave them a lot of coke. He pissed away all his money buying drinks and drugs for them. Animal House is the best Lampoon film by a country mile.

That's not Lisa Baur
The "vacation" movies all scuked.
Animal House will always have a place among my top ten all time favorites.
Shout out to Fawn Liebowitz...... tragic how she died in that kiln explosion.
And can you bring some dates for my friends?
And amazing how many guys she was engaged too who later turned up on campus with flowers.
She was from my hometown!
She was going to make me a pot!
😂😂😂😂
Animal House was my favorite, nothing else even comes close
What a remarkable compilation! The cast showcases their growth as actors and the lasting impression they've made on fans.
The cast are forever etched in the hearts of film lovers.
Animal House is one of the TOP MOVIES of all time. I’ve watched it dozens of time.
Funny!
Me too!

Love Animal House. All time favorite
There will NEVER be another John Belushi (Bluto) in Animal House The Best National Lampoon movie ever
love animal house
Animal House is my favorite of the franchise!
Something worthy of adding to Donald Sutherlands bio. He also played Hawkeye Pierce in the original movie MASH.
He was the most well known actor in the cast. He was offered $30k for the role or a lesser salary and royalties. He chose the $30k. Not a good long term financial move.

I was in love with Lisa Baur after this movie.
I started my freshman year in college when AH came out in 1978. What memories.
never gets old!!
Animal House is the Lampoon's greatest achievement. Vacation was good, but Animal House will always be the best.
The vacation movies are nothing compared to Animal House.
"Daniel Simpson Day, has no grade point average. All courses incomplete."
Mr. Blutarski…zero point zero 🤣
Remember Neidermeyer in the Twister Sister music video We're Not Going to Take It.
Let's not forget Mark Metcalf in all those memorable Twisted Sister videos. They are timeless!
"WHAT… Do you want to DO with your life?????"
“On your uniform?”
"I've got a good mind to slap your fat face.....now drop and give me twenty"

Bob Cobb!!!
Classic movie! I first saw it in 1991 as a college freshman. Holy crap, I laughed my ass off 🤪😂
Me too!
For Decades now Fort Wayne Indiana has annual golf outing, "The Fawn Leibowitz memorial golf outing"
7 years of college down the drain!!!
LOL
Karen Allen went on to play one of the greatest female roles in Marion Ravenwood in one of the greatest movies of all time in Raiders of the Lost Ark and even got her own theme!! Her character is legendary!
Thanks, Captain Obvious! 11:05
Animal House reminds me of my time at the Kappa Sigma house at the Univ. of Oklahoma. Great times.
She played Scott Smalls mom too in The Sandlot
Kevin Bacon is one of my favorite actors!
I still love Animal House because it reminds me of my college daze. Wife hates it because I like it :)
Beautiful girls and great actors!
I met that Eric Stratton fella years ago, nice guy. I was dam glad to meet him.
Bet your wife liked him. He did become a Beverley Hills gynecologist, you know... ;-P

And to think I was in college when it came out!!! Man, those were some great times
It seems like yesterday and so long ago at the same time. I was in my college sophomore year when this came out.
I remember being in a movie theater in downtown London, England 1978.
The movie was Animal House .
The audience's reaction was so emotional there was almost riot .
The laughing was so loud it became hard to hear the dialog.
My favorite National Lampoon films are the Vacation films, especially Christmas Vacation.
Best movie ever!!!
Love Animal House but cannot live without Christmas Vacation.
I’m 28 and been a fan ever since I seen it as a young teen. Excellent cast and such a great movie
Tom Hulce....that smile! I was crushin' on him back in the day and I had no idea why. Now I know for sure. LOL
Mozart from Amadeus
I saw this movie when I was 15, when it came out. It’s unforgettably funny and quite meaningful to me for many reasons.
One of my favorite movies 😂😂
I was thinking about Belushi in 1941, he played a pilot flying over Los Angeles after the Pearl Harbor attack. Funny as hell😂😂😂❤
My Fave film ever. Such a shame about Stork and Flounder.
Peter Riegert was terrific in Crossing Delancy and the Sopranos
I LOVED Crossing Delancy. It's one of those films that everyone I know have not seen, and yet, when I recommend a good comedy from the 80's to my friends, they have all enjoyed it.

Nice touch putting Belushi last...
Tim mattison i think about whenever i watch Paul Rudd they remind me of each other.
Who hasn't seen animal house the all american movie I wasnt even born wow!!
Man, I'd never recognize the 1st guy Tom Hulce and crazy to hear the actor who played Stork, died 3 yrs. later by falling off a cliff.
He committed suicide.
He had lots of drug issues
There is a movie about his life...and death.

My favorite Lampoon movie: Christmas Vacation. Where's the Tylenol?
Mark Metcalf in Twisted Sisters "I Wanna Rock!!" Video 🎶🎸🤘🏼

Although I saw this movie and enjoyed it my favorite National Lampoon movies are by far the vacation series
Eric Robert's wife and I are the same age. I don't know if they were married back then but I was. lol
my favorite film
"Ramming speed !!!!"
I love how the Delta House seniors are all in their late 20’s to early 30’s. Shows they have all been in college much more then 4 years.
Remember, Bluto says, "Seven years of college down the drain..." ;-P

Martha Smith was more than "a model". She is a former Playboy Playmate as was Lisa Baur (the co-ed that Otter hooked up with in the car)...
On the night that Belushi died,at the Meadowlands Racetrack in the shadow of 30 Rock,a horse named Animal House won its only ever race.
I love 😍 this movie was hilarious 😂
For me it would be Animal House and the first National Lampoon's Vacation.
Metcalf was on Seinfeld and played the Maestro
Great movie
4:24 We have this big pizza paddle/bread board at work. Every time we bring it out someone says "Thank you sir may I have another?"
Seeing Belushi made me sad. Drugs are shit.
I think you got everybody
National Lampoon's Vacation
Fawn used to touch me like that. “I know, she told me.” She did?? Lmfao

He got killed by John practice from last action hero.
